+1. Even after JB'ing it's tough to find a decent screen recorder. Also I want to activate multitasking... Maybe instead of double pressing home to bring up the multitasking panel, you can double press to add the app you're currently on to multitasking, then have another way to bring up the multitasking panel. It gets annoying having to quit an app, double press home, hold the app icon, and close it from there just to make sure it's not accidentally running in the background. I know plenty of people who didn't know about that, have had TONS of apps running, and wondered why their battery was draining so quickly.
I'd like to see the following on my iPad: - Folders capable of holding more icons. - iPad Search results which identify where the icon is located. - Volume UP and DOWN buttons to always be the right way around, even when device orientation is changed.
Multitasking doesn't drain your battery any faster than non-multitasking. The apps are suspended in the background (i.e. starved of time) and not truly running. The memory footprint remains and that's about it. The exception is when a program registers a special background handler to perform network updates or play media in the background. Yes, that Pandora app is going to kill your battery. No, Angry Birds sitting there in the background is not.
I really believe iOS 5 will be mainly about notifications (which I am hoping for and I would be fine if that's all they changed) What I really want Apple to do is create a market to buy themes for the iPhone. I don't just want wallpapers. I also want to be able to change things such as the slider on the lock screen, etc. I think that it would be awesome. Besides being great for consumers, it would also invite desginers to help make iOS better, as they could release their work into a storefront that already has millions of customers. Too bad that probably won't happen any time soon...
I'm pretty damn certain that they still use up battery in some way. Obviously not as much as if they were running in the background, but the battery takes a significant drop when you have a million apps in that Multitasker, frozen or not. I can't explain why, but there is definitely a correlation between battery performance and background apps. And no, I'm not talking about the apps that do play things in the background.
Yes, but as that memory footprint increases in size with more and more apps in the background, your iDevice has to expend more energy to keep that memory around while utilizing what's left for open tasks. One or two background apps will not significantly affect your battery life, but ten or twelve might.
"On the iPhone and iPod touch, long song/video titles, album names and artist names are always truncated on the 'Now Playing' screen. There is no way to access this information, since truncation also occurs when browsing. Unfortunately this oversight greatly inhibits usability." THIS. It's so frustrating when I want to read, for example, featuring artists and number of episodes from serial. This is something that every other mp3 player can solve and it just sound stupid that iOS of all others doesn't have this basic functionality. I hope iOS 5 will solve this. I hope.
my iOS 5 wish list: - facial recognition (C'mon, there's a front camera and 1GHz dual-core chip..ample processing power to do all this right?) - non-touch gestures (like Kinect?) - Siri's mobile personal assistant search - 3D Google Maps - Facebook integration in GameCenter (i'm too lazy to add friends manually)
Aside from improvements to the notifications system, one thing I really, really want is Gamecenter profiles, with an easy way to switch between then, like the Xbox, and for all game progress to be associated with the profile. Thus more then one person can use the same device to play games and have their own game save(s) and Gamecenter achievement progress. I don't want themes like on Cydia. Those are all incredibly hideous, especially since apps don't conform to them (how could they?) and so it looks awful when you don't have a custom icon for a particular app and such. I would like the option to change the notification sound for texts as well as for apps. So I could, for example, substitute a different notification sound for Carcassonne. One that wouldn't be embarrassing when it goes off in a meeting.
I have a battery % with SbSettings, and it's pretty accurate. It occasionally jumps +/- 1-3 %, but at the very least, I can accurately know when my iPod is about to turn off (at 2%) instead of having to blindly guess after I get the "20% remaining" warning.
Memory chips with the ability to power up and power down parts of the chip is very specialized equipment. It's usually easier to use a lower power chip instead. In result, memory is memory. How much of it is "used" is beyond the hardware's capacity to tell and ultimately has zero effect on the operation of the device. In addition, iOS will shutdown those programs as memory pressure increases. It's not at all common for iOS to keep more than 3 or 4 programs in memory. And that many is only feasible with the 512MB of the iPhone 4. The 256MB devices don't keep more than 2, sometimes 3 programs available. To repeat, the number of background programs has no real impact on battery. Look for programs that have background hooks and avoid leaving those running if you don't need them.
Now people ae mentioning the notifications I want rid of the 20% one myself I seem to get it then I look and my batterys ok then I get again I think 20% is to early for a warning anyway. Should give you a single warning at about 10% then shut up.
i want the app store to have an easy to navigate, alphabetical, "purchased apps " list, so i can browae everytging i have purchased on my account. its ridiculous tgis isnt already an option, but i suspect apple have left it out so we dont realize how much the app store has cost us total, and to keep up a buying illusion. the app store app needs a big overhaul actually, it needs more search features to start. I want to search by number of ratings, by star ratings, by developer, by sales, by price. i want the genius feature to not pop to the top of the list and to actually hold my spot each time i browse an item. i want a place in the app description the shows all of the updates an app has recieved, and each updates description/write up. i want the current "to update" list to have a managable order that isnt random, and doesnt change. i want bigger folders and way more app pages. i also want a sort of "organization app", which lets me fiddle around with the app layout quickly, organize things, put apps into folders and move them around in a sort of virtual virtual enviroment: but without actually making the changes until i hit a button or save. i want a safari setting that has it save uset namevand password forms, customizable and user organized. save me the trouble of having to remember my student number and type everything in everytime im at college. i would also like the iOS to truly become "post-pc", so all updates can be handled on tge iPhone, and i would like iphones to not be tetgered to PCs.
iOS 5 -revamped notification system -cloud integration via redesigned MobileMe -wireless syncing -improved security (aka gesture-based passcode) -Facebook integration within Game Center -ability to chat with online friends within Game Center -multitasking gestures -new notifications displayed above the multitasking tray and on the lock screen
Not only the Appstore, but iTunes as well. I want folders for apps in iTunes. Managing 500+ apps is a pain right now.
Dunno if anyone's said this yet but an ability to save game saves in a cloud or keep the game data on the idevice after deleting the game. I know that would save a lot of hassle when I delete games I've committed a lot of time to and get the itch to return to them at a later date.
How is that funny? People want options, Cydia provides options. The whole point of being Jailbroken is because people want greater customization from iOS so it stands to reason Cydia would be full of things that let you do it. Apple know this too, hence wallpapers and folders. I'm sure if they can add more of the things Cydia offers without compromising useability or security then they will.
