ICloud doesn't work on Windows XP so is it useful I activate iCloud on the iPad when I will upgrade to iOS 5? What can iCloud on the iPad do if my computer doesn't have iCloud installed? Do iOS 5 uses iCloud to update iOS? How is the Apple servor now?Do people still have issues to download and install iOS 5?
No more automatic directs to the AppStore if you accidentally click an ad on Safari. The AppStore now shows everything you've purchased by the game's name. It gets better and better.
Nope it wasn´t....it was 4.3.5 and now I have to resync all of my apps again for 5.0.....WOW this is fun. This updating is sooooooooooo slow. This is running for 4 hours now. Great. And it´s totally screwing up the order of my apps, it installs stuff that I deleted and puts apps not in the right folder....fantastic.
When I finally downloaded it was midnight here in germany, so I just went to bed and it was done when I got up
urgh I had a moment of madness earlier and hit update I was thinking about 2 at worst 3 hours so far it's been 4 here as well it's only just changed from restoring apps to restoring music and videos. I bet apple has enabled ping again everytime I update my syncing slows down about tenfold until I turn it off again. I don't even know what ping is I just knows it ruins my syncing dramaticly and apple keep re-enabling it. I think I could have installed windows on about ten different machines by now I just don't understand Apple programming. Anyway hoping it finishes within another hour or so and hoping I don't really regret it.
Yup, running on hour 3 now and I am still at the beginning of where you are at. Senseless. But alas, I am trying to be patient. I just hate that I have nothing to do at work anymore, therefore am left with nothing... especially no iPod games lol. APPLE Y U NO LET IT GO FASTURRR ლ(ಠ益ಠლ
Same here. I have no interest in paying for magazines on my iPhone. It would be cool if they offered some free content each week/month but I'm not paying $50 for a year subscription to a magazine on my phone.
By the way, I downloaded the update last night but did not update my iPhone until I was heading to bed. It zipped through pretty quickly and was on to restoring my apps within 15-20 minutes. When I got up this morning it was all set. The only problem I had was that it wouldn't let me choose backups to iCloud. I had to leave backups to my computer, which I don't think I have a problem with anyways. Edit: I have a 32 GB iPhone and only had about 1 GB left of space. Didn't check how much space is available after the update.
My music seems messed up (only some tracks actually play) I just wiped it from itunes I can live with adding an album a day or something like that. I've lost some data from some apps unfortunately although some saves appear to be fine. Apart from that it seems to have went ok. Kind of annoyed my wiki database is gone though that's a big download.
Upon restoring from back-up, something went awry and had to restart. I expect a myriad of problems to arise myself in the data/music dept. Ugh...
Best of luck I feared the same would happen to me quite a few times I wish iTunes reported the progress in a more detailed way like "now on App 14 out of 204" or something that tells you more. I really just don't like just sitting with no idea at all. I'm still messing about trying to put some music back on so I've been at it about 6 hours now but at least I know where I'm at now which is something I guess.
I'm about 1/5th in on the "Restoring Music and Videos" portion now. 40.86gigs of music is going to take a while... lol
My install went okay, bombed on the restore part the first time. I retried and it started restoring apps. I didn't think it was working since you usually get the Sync message on the iPod Touch and there was nothing. Now I realize it's because it doesn't do that anymore and you can access the device even while synching - Wish I would have known that. I love notifications and all of the extra abilities to manage content from the Settings app. Being able to quickly see that something like "iPooped on U' takes 1.2 GB of space is handy when trying to clear space on Wednesday evenings. Another feature I had not heard about was app Updates/Downloads now can install mutliple apps at the same time! I was updating and when one app finishes Loading and goes to Installing, the next app in the queue begins to download. I had about 3 or 4 apps installing at the same time, very nice! Very nice update once you get past the initial hurdle. Glad mine made it through the transition and sorry to those that aren't so fortunate. -- EDIT -- Not sure what this does differently, but I noticed that after updating to iOS 5 and playing ScribbleNauts or Jetpack Joyride that I get the GameCenter login notification even when offline. I can't get to any stats, but it shocked me since I'm at work and have no way to get connected. I wonder if this might help with Offline Achievements maybe? One of my Pet Peeves is that a number of games don't post Achievements to GC when you are offline.
The upgrade was pretty painless for me too..just had to wait total ~3 hours from start to finish. The restoring part was confusing cause the screen didn't say its syncing or whatever so for a while I didn't know if it was done or not. I was scared at first cause barely any apps I had showed up. Eventually I tried unplugging and then replugging in my ipod and it continued restored. I think you have to look at the little "wifi" activity icon to see if its syncing... So far love the speed increases/reponsiveness.. I think Apple did a backup, wipe, install, restore process..instead of just upgrading. Love having to infrequently reinstall the iOS if it means the responsiveness is fast.
How is the IOS 5 on the Ipod Touch 3g? Does the battery last longer than it did with the IOS 4? I'm real hesitant to download this because I hate how fast my battery drains because of the IOS 4.
got the update on my ipod touch 4g, my moms iphone 3gs and the family ipad. i love the new notification system. it's so simple but so much better than before. icloud is pretty impressive, but it took several tries to re-backup content. still, i really like the idea of always having your data available to you imessage is nice as well. it is really fast at sending messages. i really like the split keyboard on the ipad. it's so much easier to type on it and i like how you can adjust where the keyboard is on the screen. i dont see why they couldn't have integrated newsstand with ibooks. i dont see myself using my ipod to read magazines or buy any subscriptions, so the app is just sort of...there. it doesn't help that you can't put it in a folder or hide it, either. just a small annoyance i had the 3gs seems to have the best performance with ios5, as odd as that sounds. maybe it's because all three of our devices have the same amount of RAM (i think?)
So I'll get better performance with the IOS 5 than the IOS 4 with my Ipod Touch 3g? I really want to update but I don't want to have my battery drain anymore.
So I keep a folder of my unused Apple Apps that I can't delete, like stocks, weather, etc. I was planning on putting Newstand in that folder but for some reason it won't even let me put Newstand into a folder. Silly Apple what a weird thing to do.
