I've just had another nasty thought as well as the restore from backup, I had my music all set to 128kbps aac just to fit more on. I'm now thinking it will need to re encode all of that again which if I remember right took about 4 or 5 hours alone. So as well as restoring from backup reorganising all my apps and also re-encoding my music I think I'd be looking at a full days work just to update. I'm leaning towards skipping 5 altogether now it just feels like to big a hassle.
I just finished updating my iPod Touch 4g, and got some weird results. After saying it was done, I turned on my device and set to set a couple things up again. Then, after finishing, it took me to my homescreen. It has all of the new and old iOS apps, but for my other apps, some are there, and some aren't. I can't figure out any pattern to what is missing or anything, it just seems to have messed up!
Yeah on my laptop, which I always sync the iPhone with... Making a bunch of noises, backed up (again), and now is "Preparing iPhone for restore"... And...It error'd out... What in the .... Trying again.
Said "7 minutes remaining" 2 hours ago, now it finally is downloaded and I am waiting for it to restore my apps.
For me, I've got the iOS 5 downloaded, albeit rather slowly. I'm now getting error 3200 trying to install the new OS on my iPod Touch 4G. I really want to update from 4.3.3 and I think I should wait a couple days before doing this. I'm really dreading the update from a couple posts here.
Typing that into twitter gives a few responses some suggest it's an error getting manifests from apple or something server related. It seems very common though I've seen suggestions you can get round it with installing from DFU and other people saying it works after about the fourth try. It's not looking like a smooth rollout anyway If it is server related it will probably work when things calm down, If it isn't Apples going to have a lot of very annoyed people.
Supposedly its due to Apples servers being overloaded because it has to verify the update first before it installs which is why the error is popping up
Looks like upgrading to iOS 5 is not as easy as Apple says... Should I wait some days before upgrading my iPad2 ? By the way, why does the support page say "iTunes will not back up media content from your iOS device, such as music, apps, books, movies, and TV shows" ? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972?viewlocale=en_US Do i have to right-click the iPad in iTunes under Devices and choose Back Up? After installing iOS5 will i refind the apps, the data saved of the apps, the photos and videos of my iPad?
Wait a bit until things calm down. Yes backup your idevice. After the upgrading when u choose to restore from backup, everything will be put back and organized the way u had it before.
If I understand correctly, it'll try to give you iOS 5 along with the backup, but that's only a guess. Also, I'm installing iOS 5 as I type, and it did the factory reset thing, and now I have a pop-up that says "Restoring iPod apps" with a progress meter, but my iPod doesn't say "Sync in progress" and the slider says "Slide to unlock" Weird..
I wanted to upgrade to iOS5 tomorrow but I will wait some days before doing so because it seems there are a lot of issues... Thank you very much for your infos, it is really appreciated.
No! It will restore only apps, stuff and settings not the iOS Through with iPhone 4 and iPad 2. No problems besides iTunes still trying to restore apps when devices were already done.
