I'm with ImNoSuperMan, who cares if you could get this jailbreaking? The pain gone through to get these things is just not worth it. For me, iOS 5 is fixing everything and making it as silky smooth as possible. iCloud is the biggest thing here and definitely has the potential to shut out Android from complete dominance unless they get an even better solution. This PC free and Cloud talk has got me wondering how effective it will be for people with a crappy internet speeds eg. Australians.. COME ON GOVERNMENT, I want my fibre optic network NOW!
Yeh, I was wondering the same thing, My network is so rubbish, And im on Iinet which is probably the best provider is Aus, But still it can get slow every once in a while. If i have to plug my device in to sync it(You have to blug your device in a Power cord and it syncs) How long would it take? What happens if it loses connection half way through the update/backup/restore?
iOS 5 looks great and I'm going to be dumping my jailbreak for it. In fact I'm probably going to get rid of my jailbreak sooner. I do like some of the hacks, but I don't like that it seems to slow my phone down and also seems to cause headaches sometimes. Lately I've been having problems installing app updates, where I end up having to reboot multiple times to get everything installed because the installs keep hanging during the "installation" part. Admittedly I can't be 100% sure the cause is the jailbreak, but it's certainly suspicious.
Except that the "very specific userbase" you refer to is the majority of iOS users. Most people DO NOT jailbreak their phones and even less use things like Lockinfo and MobileNotifications. Apple is brining these features to every day users. Apple may be playing "catch up" in some specific feature sets but they're leading the charge in the few areas that really matter on a mobile device: quality, battery life, and usability. They're only upping the standard in the market for those things with these changes. Why, again, are you disappointed that Apple is making the platform better for the average everyday (majority) user? Or are you disappointed because Apple didn't do anything that YOU wanted?
Is that what updates will look like on IPad for IOS 5?, I noticed that 5 weeks ago the updates page on IPods and IPhone also changed. Not a lot though. Do you happen to be using the new IOS 5 with a Jailbreak or something?
I don't know if anyone knows yet, but has anyone with a 8GB device thought about how much space this os will take up? I went from 1st gen to 4th where I had 7+ GB and went down to 6+ GB. And it was a big difference! Ok so it just means some micro management, and icloud will go some way to making it easier, tho there are plenty of times I don't have access to wifi. Oh and don't get me wrong I'm looking Forward to this update for sure.
Ok so it looks like i have found another interesting thing. IOS5 is to have built in Emoticons. Now for me this is not a big deal as i got one of those apps that gives you them, And it probably is'nt a big deal, But for those who can't be stuffed getting one of those apps it is good to see that they will come default.
I actually unjailbroke my iPhone 4 in part because I'm happy with everything that's coming in iOS 5, and in larger part because my jailbreak has been a headache at times. Lately I've been having problems with app updates, and I suspect the jailbreak is the cause. So I restored last night and in addition to things seeming to be working smooth so far, I also gained about 1.5 GB of space. It might have been stuff like roms, but I really don't think I had 1.5 GB worth on there. Or maybe I did - I didn't play them anyway, so it's a win either way.
So... I guess it's finally time to upgrade, Hopefully Apple releases some snazzy new iPod in September
