Ok so as you all hopefully know IOS 5 has/will be released this fall. So what do you think of it?.

Do you like it?, What do you think is missing?

Here are the details from Apple. http://www.apple.com/au/ios/ios5/features.html

Also you migh want to note that the Keynote Presentation is now up on Apple Events http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/11piubpwiqubf06/event/

And Here is a run through of all the new feature which is also on the TA Homepage. http://toucharcade.com/2011/06/06/jobs-details-ios-5-os-x-lion-icloud-in-wwdc-keynote/
Also it includes some things from Apple them self. So thanks to TA and Apple for the info.

    Me gusta.... :D
Time to stop trying to get an iPod 4 and start saving...

The main things that stuck out were the notifications and no more computers...except for charging.

But can we disable 20% battery notifications?

Cloud support? Cool if you have 3g and can pay $25 a year. Not cool for all of us iPod Touch owners.

Improved Game Center? Stuff that Open Feint has had for ages, except for built-in async/matching.

Twitter? Only useful if you have 3g or even care about Twitter. For a lot of people, it's just extra bloat.

Mobile Safari improvements? Stuff that Instapaper and other browsers have had for forever.

Mail improvements? Could have gotten all of that with jailbreak.

Notifications? All of that was there with jailbreak.

    iMessage? Basically useless.

PC Free? Only good if you only get your music from iTunes, and nowhere else.

Pretty disappointing for me. The majority of these "improvements" are basically just Apple catching up to jailbreak tweaks or Open Feint, and if you ask me, it's long overdue. The rest of them are only for a very specific userbase, and not a majority of people.

Right ... except for that.

You know what else OF has had for ages? Built-in suckfulness. I was glad to see Apple will be leaving that part out.

What do you mean? The only real difference is that Open Feint was a little more intrusive than Game Center. It does everything else better.

I do not even use game center at all on my iPad because it's pretty much Open Feint with an Apple logo, and just feels....... cheap.

Think I'll stick with XBL on my windows phone kthxbai.

    LOL!

Wow, man, thanks for the laugh.

Even in its current primitive state, GC makes OF look like it was designed by a bunch of spastic teens. Come this fall, it won't even be a contest.

Yeah, nice smiley. Is that your "please don't ban me" defense? If you've got something to say, just nut-up and say it.

Also, speaking of "idiocy" ... have is the word you wanted there, not has. Gosh darn that whole subject-verb-agreement thing!

Okay, that's your (subjective) opinion, than. Thanks for acting all high and mighty about it like you're the expert on design.

One thing many people missed: Wireless video sharing from iPad 2 (and probably iPhone 4GS/5) to HD TV through Apple TV.

    Thats pretty cool!

I was hoping for "New Gamecentre features ability to turn this function off completely."
I echo someone's point that Instapaper is superior to the new Safari functions. One 'Read Later' button dominates all.
Hope I can choose to delete Newsstand and Twitter functions. I don't need em.

What are you talking about? Cloud is absolutely free and it doesnt require 3g. Works as well on wifi as 3g. I dont know about you but more than 90% of my time, I have wifi access.

OF was a great service but with GC there is no need for OF anymore. Its built into iOS and thats all what counts. Sure there are a lot of possibilities for improvements but its good enough for me to completely stop using OF.

Twitter is hugely popular and just coz you dont use it, it doesnt mean no one else cares about it. Once again, no need for 3g. It works on wifi.

Stuff which 10% (guesstimate, and I'm way overestimating here) of people had acess too is now available for 100% of iOS 5 users. How is that not an improvement?

Jailbreaking is the biggest PITA I've ever had with any of my iDevices and I had to go through this pain for months before I finally gave up on owning an iPhone coz unlocking is such a PITA and apple doesnt release iPhone in my country for upto 10 months after its US release. If I get stuff which required jailbreaking earlier, there couldnt be a better thing for me.

So, BBM was useless? Tell that to all the people who wont switch from blackberry just coz of BBM

What the what the what? Did u seriously read about the features introduced in the keynote or just read the headlines and figured out the rest on your own?

PC Free means no need for a PC to sync with your iDevice. Not even to activate it nor for backups. Where does iTunes music even come into picture here?

I couldnt even dare to expect releasing half of these features in iOS 5. Fo me it was way more awesome than what I thought apple would do. Of course they are adding features which were available via jailbreaking. I'm getting stuff which required me to go back to jailbreak hell earlier. Thats one hell of an advantage for me. And if you think icloud is for a very specific userbase instead of majority, you couldnt have been any more wrong.

Apparantly it's jailbroken already according to engadget . Only feature I'm really interested in is the notifications being fixed although wireless syncing could be useful as well but I think with it still being tied to itunes apple has missed the point.

I have instapaper already and I think it's well worth owning but it wouldn't surprise me if apple made some excuse to remove it like they did readability I hope not though.

Im pretty pumped that updates are/will be done wirelessly. Ive had the worst experience trying to upgrade iOS versions as my computer and idevices dont work well together. When 4.0 came out i was so excited for folders but the update took me seriously 4ish hours because itunes would keep freezing on my laptop.

Also the possibility of app data backup should be awesome for not only games but other apps as well.

Disappointed that we have to wait until fall though.

On the plus side of this is that my Birthday is on the 4th of the 9th, My old farts (Incredibly old parents), Have speculated about getting me a Mac or IPad for my birthday, Now that you don't need a PC to sync, I think i will ask for a IPad. They will end up getting the wrong Mac, Plus i want a mod'ed mac not a regular.
