iOS 4 glitches

Discussion in 'Off-Topic Lounge' started by Mindfield, Jun 19, 2010.

  1. So I've been running iOS 4 for a couple of days now and so far I love it. Very slick, much snappier, and the new features ... well, everyone knows what those are, and they're excellent. I've been discovering little bits here and there that are nice -- like network connections seem to resolve much quicker now -- but I've also run across a few glitches:

    - GMail doesn't seem to properly sync anymore. It can download mail fine but it doesn't mark read messages as read, it defaults to archiving messages instead of deleting them now (you can change that in settings though), and if I delete stuff off my GMail it doesn't get deleted from my inbox on hte iPhone, and if I try to access them or delete them on the iPhone it turns into a no sender/no subject/no message entry and won't let me delete. I have to go into my trash before it gets the message and gets rid of them from my inbox.

    - Bluetooth is a bit wonky. It still works, but it's not working like it's suppose to. For one thing, I use a BlueAnt V1 voice controlled BT earpiece. Normally when an incoming call comes in, the headset talks to me and tells me the number of the person that's calling. It doesn't do that anymore, it just plays the ringtone in my ear instead. Furthermore if I terminate a call using the button on the headset, it'll disconnect the call, but the phone app seems to get stuck on the call screen. It's fine if I switch to another menu but otherwise it sits there thinking the call hasn't disconnected. I can still use all of the headset's other features -- placing calls verbally, accessing pass-through phone tools (iPhone voice control instead of the headset's) and so on, just those two little things are weird.

Anyone else using iOS 4 GM having these issues?

clicking Wallpaper instead of Saved Photos/Photo Library just brings up a blank screen for me.

I've had a few problems, e.g. wallpapers don't appear under settings.
However, I love love love the new features like multi-tasking and how smooth the transition is between two apps.
Spell check is handy, as is google suggestion and searching wiki/the web in Spotlight.

One thing I hate is when you type in websites in the URL on Safari, they come up with extended links that you've previously been on - not helpful when I want the homepage, and quick.

Has anybody had frequent crashing upon syncing? My iPod Touch 2G is crashing and restarting every time I connect to iTunes.

Spellcheck is totally cool.... Like if you had a long word, or even a TA member's name - it gets "remembered" and when you start typing it again it pops up as a suggestion!

This seems to go away after the session though - at some later time, it seems to forget the words and you have to re-type them out....

My icons disappear, then I'll change the page and come back and the icon will reappear but the next one will disappear.

In general settings, under "International", I think, there's a setting to add new words to the device's dictionary.

By the way, as I mentioned in my earlier post, my iPod Touch 2G is not backing up. I can use DisableBackup 2.0 to skip the backup and just sync (since iTunes 9.2 doesn't allow you to sync without backing up natively), but every time I back up my iPod Touch crashes and reboots. It also freezes iTunes. Basically, I can't back up. I'm hoping this issue will be resolved in the next update. All I want to know is, is anybody else experiencing this problem?

I had this problem today. It stopped happening when I powered off (red slider) and powered back on. As far as I know, though, when it crashed on sync it still got everything on there and nothing was lost.

I've had battery leak issues with my iPod Touch 2nd gen, even with wifi turned off. I tracked it down to some kind of weird memory issue after an app crashes (prob due to compatibility issues with iOS4). If an app crashes on you, you have to power off and power on again or else it keeps running in the background (and therefore drains your battery).

Well, my problem has something to do with the backup... It always stops at a specific spot on the backup... Maybe a corrupted file?

Mainly having problems on some Apps like Perfect
Browser. They lag as they are probably not optimised for ios4. Also, when I go to the multitasking bar and hit the minus button, it occasionally freezes if I close down 3 or more Apps at the same time.

I am having a problem with the volume, they seem to have turned down the volume with iOS4 and I can barely hear some podcasts, because they have such a low volume to start with.

I have the volumecontrol slider under settings set to 100% and still it´s noticeably more low on volume than before.

This is really annyoing and I hope Apple will release an update that solves this.

  13. I haven't experienced this problem on iOS 4. Volume seems the same to me -- I listen to my music at the same volume as I did on 3.x. Are you sure you don't have volume limiting turned on? (Settings -> iPod -> Volume Limit)

Does anyone know how to add words to the devices dictionary? I cannot find it in the Settings.

I'd also like to know this. I live in Berea, but every time I type "Berea", it gets changed to "Berra". So I had to turn off the autocorrect completely.
