Game Impressions Thanks for your support on these forums and for 'listening'. 2 eyes before 10 fingers - always appreciated. With that said, I am seeing strange issues on my iPhone 4S (as already mentioned earlier). It's jailbroken on 5.1.1 and it constantly freezes shortly after choosing a control scheme. On the other hand, the game runs just fine on my iPad Mini on 6.0.1, obviously non-jailbroken. Fingers crossed that the upcoming patch helps resolve this! The game's an absolute blast and leaves very strong first impressions... though I am admittedly a bit bored of it already. I ran a distance of approx. 4,500 on my third run ever, and just can't feel the urge to go back and replay it to get a higher score (similar to how I felt in Flick Kick Football/Field Goal). Some of the additions others have posted here would definitely help spruce things up - more varied environments, etc. Above all, I can't imagine how god-like this title would be if you found a way to reach out to AMC. Bring TWD's characters into the mix, work out a deal, and this could seriously work out. Give each character his or her own unique 'advantages'... Glenn with a boost of speed, Daryl with a crossbow, Rick with... a crying baby in his arms? You get the picture! The game's an easy 5 for 5 on innovation. Just needs to be a bit more fleshed out, IMO. P.S. ...and the forced ads do kill the experience a bit.
We were obviously similarly inspired; with all the license-based versions of games coming out (Where's My Perry, Angry Birds Star Wars, etc.), the thought of Into the Walking Dead came to mind easily while I was playing. This thought was largely sparked by the fact that when you're wielding the revolver, the game becomes strongly reminiscent of those frequent scenes in the show where Rick does his "determined stride" bit, marching through a throng of walkers while putting them down with an unerring string of single shots to the head. It'd certainly be interesting, if not really what TWD is about.
Yeah, there's one later on too that asks you to top your high score 3 times. I had saved some coins so I bypassed that mission. Some more feedback... My first game on this and I scored above 3K, second game was a little further than that (like 3.8K?)... it was kind of sad to see the world loop already at that point. I'd read the whole thread but is that it... does it just keep looping the same sections over and over? I'm currently on the Level 14 missions, as mentioned before... some of the missions are stupid hard to pass. Thanks for the coin bypass... that helps, but like getting 20 kills with the shotgun (where I'm stuck right now) is hard not because it's hard to kill with the shotgun but because there's no control at all over what powerups are present in the game. It would be nice to be able to cycle through specific weapons in the 100 coin perks before starting a run. Just make it where there's a random perk and then cycle through the available weapons that you have. As it is, I'm probably more likely to earn the 1300 coins or whatever it is to just bypass the mission and move on to Level 15. Still, pretty cool game overall. Once I unlock everything though I'm probably going to backlog it until an update with the other content in the menus releases. The forced ads do kind of bite. I had one pop up after starting a level and I was actually running. Thankfully they have the x button to close them but still... I know somehow you gotta pay the bills and I plan to never buy any IAP of any kind so I can deal with it.
@Pikpok: Please remove ads through IAP purchase or something. The game's strongest point is its atmosphere, and how this atmosphere takes you into the world you created in this game, and suddenly an ad pops up and the momentum just drops to zero for a brief moment.
As far as different environments go, I'm trying to think of some that would work well with the games mechanics. Perhaps a freeway littered with abandoned vehicles? A city environment would be nice, but it would have to be a pretty contrived setup - wide and with obstacles littered about. Not being able to actually turn down different streets would leave it feeling pretty constrained I think.
How many different environments are there? I saw the Field and the Forest... is there anything else? Perhaps running up a Hill or Mountain? Battling against Rain or Snow? Having to Swim across a Lake?
Rain... definitely rain. Also, would it be possible to add a "that was close" scream when you brush at least 2 zombies? I love the breathing, and i definitely like the scream on game over. Another thought would be to choose a character voice between a female and a male My $0.02
For the full effect, that'd need to be a thunderstorm, complete with reduced visibility and distant enemies silhouetted by random lightning flashes. ^_-
I'm hooked on this game, not easy by any means and the cornfields are such a challenge. Keep up the good work!
Once you get the SMG you don't really need any more weapons. I'm just trying to get distance now. Which is obviously the point of the game. And btw, I'm not syncing with the leader boards..... Thought the same thing when I played it, instantly felt like the walking dead. This is run of my favorite endless runners ever.
I don't like the beat your high score missions either, but fortunately you can skip them with coins. This is definitely a fun game, so I sprung for the coin doubler. Worth it.
This has been mentioned several times, but I skimmed through the thread and did not see where Pik Pok had responded. Has there been any confirmation of IAP ad removal yet? This is a deal breaker for me. I have an irrational aversion to in-game ads. I don't download any games unless I can get rid of ads. Am I missing a lot of good games? Possibly. I'm also not being bothered by any ads. Having the Rovio ads in Angry Birds is almost enough to keep me from playing those games...almost. I'd spend some time playing Into the Dead, probably even buying the coin doubler, if I knew that the ads could be disabled.
Coin Doubler FTW. Bought it immediately. Thanks Pik Pok! Awesome suggestions from the users! Hard to disagree with any of them. Hope Pik Pok considers a few. I definitely love the idea of variety in zombie type. Zombie children, fat zombies, Strictly undead though. No mutations. Variety in scenery, maybe buildings, parking lots, highways. Love this game!
I'm not getting the big issue with the ads. I haven't seen that many - out if maybe 15 plays so far I've seen maybe 3-4 ads.
Among other things ads are an annoyance at best, and some ppl like me absolutely detest them. That being said I still decided to give this game a shot, and the ads are not too bad. At least they only appear in the menu. Despite the ads and the IAP, I'm still enjoying this game, and seeing that it was free, I guess I shouldn't complain.
There was a post somewhere in the beginning of the thread with Pikpok saying they are going to implement some IAP to disable ads.
The only problem I've had with ads in the game is last night, I played late into the evening and the ads suddenly started getting pretty bad and probably because of my slow internet and fast fingers I ended up a couple of times with ads appearing after starting a run. If they can just keep them out of the actual game, that would be nice.
The ads have definitely slowed down my playing. From a numbers standpoint (I work in the online advertising market) PikPok has not made much from me in Impressions, even if they're getting 1 cent per view, and definitely not by Click Throughs. At best, they've made less than 10 cents off my time playing. The ads are a turn off for me, they interrupt my play flow, and are intrusive. I have stopped playing until an IAP for disabling ads becomes available. I have no problem supporting the devs by purchasing the game. We need to understand that there are Freemium games and Paymium. Freemium is typically ad supported and chock full of IAP, while Paymium has a fee for entry and is complimented by IAP as a means for alleviating the grind involved in reaching higher tier inventory. This game should be Paymium.
