But IB2 has blocking, parrying, dodging, magic, super attacks, stabs, etc. Plus there's dual swords, heavy weapons, sword and shield... and its much more cinematic. But to each his own... btw someone remind me again why I'm defending a game I can't even play? this needs to get patched yesterday.
Most people that bought first day most likely were fans of the first, and would be more prone to giving favorable reviews. I myself gave a 4/5, on faith that it would be fixed soon. Not just the people that trashed the game are experiencing problems, but all the people that hope to see this succeed (which is just about everyone that's bought this so far) gave it good reviews. Believe me, this game needs some very serious patching.
This is undoubtedly going to be the iPhone and iPad game of the week. What would make you guys think that both Chair and Apple aren't doing absolutely everything they can to get things fixed? I mean I know it's cool to rage out about such things but remember the game has been out for less than 24 hours.
Firstly, as I said I would, the second the clock struck midnight I went onto the App Store and bought Infinity Blade 2. I'd watched Der-Kleine's videos of his iPod touch 4th Gen (albeit on iOS 4) running the game and aside from some cut scene stutters, it looked superb. So I restored my iPhone 4 in preparation of Infinity Blade 2, I wanted it to have a clean system to run on. I turned off Location Services, connected to WiFi, disabled Push for email, cut down on as many incoming connections to the phone as possible that could cause a slowdown in the performance. When the game loaded for the first time, the cut scene I had seen stutter on the iPod touch footage ran smooth and fluidly, "Superb" I thought. The first two fights took place, again a little slow down that while annoying wasn't game-breaking. And then it happened, and it happens EVERY time you get to this enemy, no matter WHICH one you face, and regardless of you rebooting the iPhone 4 and having nothing else running. Yes, the first fight when you enter the tower is nothing short of an absolute dogs dinner, it's a mess, it's a slideshow, and it's almost impossible to play. I'm currently on Level 11 and the enemies have picked up in pace, which on that particular section is like a game of hit and miss, the touch screen equivalent of button bashing. I blame the flame effects and sparks/glow from them as they hang on the wall. I want frame rate, not fancy little touches, so drop them in an update. The same goes for the petals in the Japanese garden, the dust in the out lands, and the leaves from trees. Drop them from the iPhone 4 version, and restore something to the frame rate. Now, not all of this is ChAIRS fault of course. Despite being a Mac user for some 12 years and being as loyal an Apple fan as they come, I have for a long time now held the opinion that Apple purposefully and deliberately throttle older devices with each OS release. The proof of this is in the GeekBench scores alone, which dropped from 4.0 to 4.3.5 and onto 5.0 and 5.0.1 ... Apple are throttling older devices performance so the newer ones appear even snappier (which in the case of the 4S and it's graphics capabilities is unnecessary). Fingers crossed for a quick resolution, but right now while I love the game itself, the sheer quality is astounding, the performance is utter drivel on iPhone 4. iOS 5 broke the first game, so now ChAIR have two titles to get running up to speed on iOS 5 instead of one. And to the bloke who said the first place people would sound off is iTunes, head on one to Epic's forum ... it's rife.
Just played a solid hour on my iPod 4 and wow. This is amazing. Lush graphics, great combat. Only crashed once when I beat a guy (after 5 attempts) then I crashed. Bear in mind, no apps running and rebooted.
And that's what's odd, it's like there's a certain subset of owners that have the issue while other's with identical models/fw are playing just fine. I'm not leaving a review since I'm sure the developers are actively working on it and I'm sure a fix will be rolling out soon. Some of us were/are genuinely excited to play the next iteration of this series which is why we are voicing our frustration.
I'm not trying to start something but you forgot to say that's your opinion or at least state it in a way that's clear because thats what it is. I didn't need to walk around in IB to have fun. I honestly find what you described as boring and been done to death. But that's what I think and understand that other people like it so I don't play it but I don't argue with people why they shouldn't like it. Sorry now let's continue to talk about whatever it is we are suppose to talk about.
It's not really. Everyone has a different pair of eyes, and what is acceptable and indeed noticeable to one person will not be the same for another. I have always, going back to earlier consoles in the 90's, been intolerant of low or shoddy frame-rates, they just leap out at me. I'm not saying I have 20/20 super vision, but even back in 1991 the SNES version of Street Fighter 2 and it's flawed frame rates compared to the US and Japanese versions annoyed the 13 year old me.
Never said it wouldn't be. And I've heard that its amazing from everyone with a working device. Personally, I'm blaming Apple more than Chair on this one, there were known issues with 5.0.1 that should have been corrected a long time ago, but it is what it is and its Chair's responsibility to make sure it runs. I'm hoping for a fix tomorrow sometime, but given that they never fixed IB1, I'm wondering if its even possible to get it running on 5.0.1 with an iPad 1.
You're absolutely right. These issues should have been taken care of before it even launched, right? smfh
Totally agreed with you. I really dont understand all the hype of this game. Played it on iPad2 for some time. Beautiful, repetitive swipe fest, and from what I have read in this thread it is bugged and way too many people have technical problems quite surprising for a premium title. I dont know, maybe its my age. Im 28, started my gaming adventure in the early 90 so flashy graphics is not a determinant of quality of a game for me. And I get a seen this, done that experience quite often these days. Seriously, an iOS masterpiece, and pushing the platform forwards well if the platform is going in this direction then Im really starting to worry. Im not trying to be provocative or anything, just an observation. And I really hope that one day Ill see something that has the wrapping of IB2, but with the amount of content like The Quest. That would be a big step forward for this platform, and I wouldn't have a problem paying 10-20$ (and freeing 5GB+ of space on my iDevice ) the day it would land in the Appstore. Anyway, have fun with the game people
Ok, I've managed to make the game work on my iPod Touch 4G 32 GB. Maybe it will help some of you guys too. My setup: iPod Touch 4G 32 GB, iOS 5.01. WLAN and Gamecenter active My problem: The game crashed while the Infinity Blade II logo was shown. My workaround: 1) Hard reset (turn the device off and on again) 2) Start the game. This time the opening cinematics will start after the logo. Now immediately press the home button twice to open the multitasking bar. 3) Leave the multitasking bar open, until the cinematics is finished. Now a black screen will appear. Wait for another 20-30 seconds. 4) Touch the black screen to close the multitasking bar. 5) The game will (hopefully) start. At least it worked for me. I didn't have to activate airplane mode or something. Good luck.
Could anyone playing on an iPhone 4 32gb tell me how the performance is? I don't want to but if it's going to be choppy Thanks a lot.
I have an iPhone 4 32gb running the latest firmware and the game started really nicely, first cutscene was smooth and the first fight was smooth but in a lot of the places after that the game becomes a slideshow and its really hard to play. I would wait until they fix it, however if you are desperate to play the game is 'playable'.
All these people who think IB 2 is boring...do you all seriously not care that this game has an interesting premise and an original well paced plot? The latter of which is seriously lacking in the majority of the appstore offerings. The world of IB isn't just about taping and swiping; there is serious effort placed into crafting an intriguing world and plot that actually have substance(This is all relative of course!). Extra canon like Infinity Blade: Awakening further builds on the characters and the world.
