Game Impressions I agree with the quoted paragraphs above, the story in particular. I'm glad there is much more of the story now, and that Chair exhibits a desire to expand their world and the franchise, but much of it feels standardized. The sad, haunting loneliness of the first game, a rare and peculiar mood for a game to bestow upon the player, is gone, replaced by a slightly peculiar, sometimes japanesque and oriental, sometimes european-medieval, but otherwise rather common fantasy world. The faceless and nameless protagonists, a long line of bitter, hard, doomed men, are gone, replaced by a fantasy hero with a calling, a destiny, a voice and a magic sword. I liked the bare-boned story of the first game, and the cyclical concept of son after son carrying on his father's calling. Not for the actual storytelling or plotline, but for the sad, melancholic, lonely sensation it instilled, and the dark, hopeless sensation of a nevernending, bitter battle. The protagonists' reasons for continually trying to bring down the God-King were easy enough to guess or just make up, and the idea never felt silly in the way that the TA preview portrays it. The hints that whatever knight that kills the God-King takes his place, thus causing sons to to slay their fathers, just made it seem all the more bitter and dark. Siris, as a contrast, is a more traditional fantasy hero, complete with a side-kick, a roving, roaming adventure, and traditional heroic qualities. Also, I found the original voice acting and the peculiar language very, very immersive. There was a melancholic ring to the words that fit very snuggly in with the rest of the mood and theme of IB1. I'd gladly have played a sequel with as much story and dialogue as IB2 voiced in the same manner. But, alas, there is a well-documented resistance among american entertainment products, and the people who consume them (at least, so the production companies believe) to foreign and authentic languages. Perhaps that came into play in Chair's decision to go all english after the first sentence. The new voice acting is not bad, though a bit stoic and lifeless at times. But the dialogue and story are rather forgettable, and the overall impression is FAR, FAR less unique and characteristic than both the story, its presentation, its immersive qualities, and the mood and feel it conveyed in IB1.
haaah! go watch the review on Youtube. and this, the link on the description. http://www.appspy.com/infinity-blade-ii-review
Yes, I read the post. It said that in the very rarely event that you have two of one item, you can sell one of them. What you said in your post could be construed as a bit misleading, it was making me think I could actually sell my items like in IB1... And you can't.
To sum up, the general consensus seems to be that IB1 is like Let the Right One In, a deep, subtle, dark and more beautiful version, while IB2 is like Let Me In, the standardised, Hollywood-ised and more generic version.
Haha yeah! I remember back when fighting games didn't have too much story. Also, those games recycled a lot but were FUN! Hell, nowadays, Infinity Blade still has a deeper story than some fighting games on console. In a sense, I guess. I could go either way, honestly. However, I do want to see a dark pre-columbian/primeval type story and theme.
guys, need your advises... i've won a itunes $10 gift card, BUT should i spend $6.99 (+ tax = $7.60) on IB 2 or wait for the price to drop during X'mas/new year sale??? i've already got IB 1, but i heard this new one doesn't really pack much surprises, unless you're talking about all those unexpected bugs and stuffs... please tell me what to do... buy or wait? thanks
I'd suggest you read this! http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=23990&page=2313#post2022164
I went a 2:1 damage health ratio with dual swords. I'd suggest not pumping damage if you plan on using heavy weapons though.
Maybe they could do Arabian first then pre-columbian in IB4. Or make IB3 huge next year and do both. Hopefully, we'll see some big things next year instead of more freemium. I read a lot of articles talking about the Dark Side of Apple dealing with piracy issues. Devs think Apple isn't doing enough for anti-privacy.
Yeah, IB1 went on sale 3 months after it came out and it's never gone down to less than $2.99. So, people will only save a few dollars 3, or so, months later.
I can't help but feel that your sentiment and the "general consensus" would have been quite the opposite had ib2 been released before ib1. They both have their merits but IMO ib1 made us love the game with simple yet sophisticated gameplay and atmosphere, while ib2 gives us more choice and variety in enemy type, path, environment and fighting style. The assertion that ib2 has less style and is more generic is quite subjective, and I'd go as far as to say that many of those suggesting that ib1 is better have not played through ib2 quite as much as they have ib2. NOT TO MENTION this is v1.0 of ib2, I have high hopes for future updates, especially clashmob!
