To touch more on my original point the iTunes cards, when people have less to use to spend, people often will balk at a higher sticker price. It's like going to the grocery store with ten dollars and wondering why the eggs are expensive vs. Going to the store with two hundred dollars and not thinking twice about the eggs being expensive.

This is also a deeper reasoning as to why us iPad owners are price gouged for the same piece of app ware.

The iPhone, when purchased at subsidy as I'm sure most to 99% are, still is 1/3 the cost of my iPad. Therefore iPad software sells less, as less people have one. It takes an expendable income usually to own one.

Yet developers have rightly targeted the iPad demographic with justified app prices. Very, very few apps cost 99 cents. Even the same gameloft games are 2-3 dollars more.

Less people would balk at the prices if iPhone owners Paid the same app prices iPad owners do. I also don't understand why iPhone owners complain at the likes of reckless racing for iPad gaining a few extra tracks, over the iPod/iPhone versions. I'd say that this is the most fair app yet, by giving extra tracks to iPad owners while charging us more. I would agree the others should get the tracks but before they do, they should have paid what I paid for the app. If you want the content, you should have to pony the money for it.

Sorry for ranting, I believe the issue with app pricing nearly will always lie with iTunes card denominations. People have less to spend so they in turn, are more critical about what they buy. Therefore complain at the cost.

If you want good games, buy more cards or save up for the games you want.

I have available iTunes card balance now that I'm hanging onto for nova 2, aralon, dungeon defenders and infinity blade.

If games on the app store are going to start looking this good, I need to upgrade from my 2nd gen touch real soon! Which is kinda sad since two years usually isn't very old for a gaming platform.

    I don't think you quite understand. I'm not hoping it'll be 59p. I'm expecting £9.99.

I'm saying the likelihood of it being 59p is zilch.

    Which is sad really.

Back during the gamecube era, Shinji Mikami, the creator of Resident Evil lambasted Sony for using "planned Obsolescence" - by stating the disc read errors were intentional to inflate ps2 sales. By creating a product designed to fail, people would thereby purchase another one.

This was the same reason he moved the series to Nintendo and quit his job at Capcom, when the suits of Capcom, to gain more sales porter Resident Evil 4 to the ps2.

The technology world moves fast, and as mobile computing marketshare becomes more fierce and as many rivals amplify their technology yearly, Apple must do the same.

My reasoning, is, that as right as Shinji Mikami may have been, I feel the same way lately about Apple.

The new iPhone 4 came out less than 2 months after the iPad and tear downs revealed internally, a space for a front camera in an iPad. Yet the feature was removed. I feel apple intentionally gimps their product lines for the yearly revisions.

Which by my calculations, is planned obsolescence.

A smart move in some regard, but terrible in others as it alienates a marketshare whom parted with 200-600 dollars or more, only to have their device obsolete the next year. Which I'm sure some consumers are beginning to be fed up with.

They say a fool and their money are soon parted, lol.

I'm not sure if you guys saw/heard this:

The developer of the game said, and i quote "this game will cost more than your average iphone game"

I didn't want to get involved but you people need to realize that this game WILL ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY COST 14.99-19.99

    c'mon people

i don't think it'll be $9.99 coz i read somewhere,i don't remember what articlebut it says it'll cost more than average iPhone game and it's even more than what square enix did ;)
anyway, the success of this game will really determine if developers will be willing to put lots of efforts making full-featured console-quality games for iDevice

I didn't say the engine has no weaknesses, but I will say that the vast majority of the time, a weakness in an engine like UE3, CryEngine, idTech, etc point to flaws in the skill of the developers making the game more than weaknesses in the engine.

And, besie that, the whole reason you license an engine (as opposed to making something on a platform like UDK) is so you can modify the engine itself in areas where it seems to be weak to you. Having used UE3 in the past, I can tell you that it can be used to make whatever you want. The only reason that most developers use it for FPS-style formulas is because nearly all of the examples and source code available on UDN is for those types of games (i.e. the games Epic makes).

The people that are complaining about DmC are completely unreasonable. People are trying to sign off on the game because of the engine it uses? I'm sorry, but that is crap. Again, you can make a game run as fast as you want by scrimping on details, removing engine features, etc. How do you think standard UE3 (essentially) is running on an iPhone? It's not because the iPhone is as powerful as an Xbox 360 or a PC.
Framerate always matters, and many people will notice anything that does not stay consistently above 60fps. That said, I have played all of the games in question, and I can tell you they are not immune from framerate problems. I'll take a wait and see approach to DmC, but I'm far more concerned about Ninja Theory developing than that it uses UE3 or Dante looks like a retard. I don't know if they can re-create the GAMEPLAY.

Of course there is a wide range to what makes an "action game". And, sure, animations matter. But the methods games like SF4 use to mitigate this problem are not outside of reach on any multiplatform engine, even UE3.

I just hope this game turns out to be much more than just a pretty face. As much as graphics are nice, game play is really my main priority when buying games. If this game has decent game play coupled with it's amazing graphics this COULD be a huge hit.

Another point, the "average iphone game" discussion is really up for grabs. The average iphone game to be honest is between 1-3 dollars. Only the high end ones reach 4+. So if they mean the "average HIGH QUALITY iphone game" then yes you will be looking at an upwards of $10. But to me "average" iphone game means it will sit at about 10 dollars. Perhaps as an early buyer price, then hike it up to 12-13 after the first day or two to really boost their sales.

I agree, although some games look awesome, in the end it's gameplay that counts. I have so many games that I thought were going to be great but in the end I just played them a couple of times.

Same. I am easily impressed by shiny graphics. Besides, the controlls will probably be ok, as I found the controls for epic citadel pretty good, unlike COD Zombies, which has the worst controls of all iDevice FPS (for me anyway).

Yeh this game is so important. It will definitely determine how the app store looks 1 1/2 to 2 years from now.

Which is why I'm going to take a poll. You have to guess the EXACT price that the game will start at. There is a BIG prize for the winner!

    my guess: $14.99

    10 bucks ? OK
    12 ? Ok
    15 bucks ? Mhhh...Okidoki
20 bucks ? for a downloaded game ? Nope. Not for me.

Remember PSP GO : 20 dollars games don't sell at all.

13 Bucks for chaos ring on iPhone ? That is good...
Under 20: good sells, it's simple as that...

I'm rooting for around $20. If it's a great playing free roaming RPG with incredible graphics on a mobile device, how could you charge any less?
