I think this is mainly because these larger companies don't see making "big" games for the iDevice. They're set with the notion that these games should be short, solid experiences that can replayed over and over. To an extent, they're right; some of the best games and top-selling games are exactly that, but it's disappointing to see that most major game companies don't treat the iDevices seriously. Another thing might be that they don't want to waste a lot of development resources creating these big games, because they might be scared how they sell. Thus, the smaller, more replayable approach.
I agree. There are a lot of dynamics devs have to consider when planning to make a game - but it really all comes down to $$$. Time spent making the game (opportunity costs), how well it will sell, how much to sell it for, etc. One thing's for sure (and this has already been said), we can get relatively shallow games that look like console games for $5.99, but we wont get console-deep AND console-looking games for that price - more like twice that price. I've been realizing that when I play an RPG game, I expect and enjoy the exploration of the world, the story, the characters and their skills, items, etc. So in that way, IB is not really an RPG to me. It IS probably the most awesome-looking action game with nice battle mechanics in the app store and LIGHT RPG elements sprinkled in. Still a solid, amazing game.
People (specifically in these forums) don't understand the difference between a tech demo and an actual demo. When both Carmack and Epic showed off their tech the first time, it was simply a tech demo. A "look at what we can do on your hardware" showing. Never once did they state that this is exactly what will be released in an eventual game. They simply wanted to show off the fancy new tech (in Epics case mostly to show other developers what they can do with their engine.) Gamers (specifically in this forum) then took that and ran with it, thinking that whatever style game they saw in the tech demo's would translate directly to the upcoming games. This is not the fault of the developers, but rather the posters who thought these developers were making a specific type of game without actually knowing any real details. Before we knew anything about Infinity Blade gamers were already looking at the tech demo Epic Citadel making up their minds about what type of game will eventually be built on the tech. Its the "hype" machine of the forum go'ers here that twisted what they showed into "this is gonna be a huge FPS/RPG" when in all actuallity it never was going to be. The Unreal engine can be used to make colorfull 2D shooter, or a brown/grey gritty realistic 3D shooter. A tech demo does not, and never will be a basis for whats released in the future. My 2 cents.
They gave a pretty good in depth look. Hopefully, it will dispel some of the ire Infinity Blade has received from forum members. It seems better and deeper than I had expected.
Crap. I accidentally voted 1 star for this thread instead of 5. Anyways, this game will still be an insta buy for me, just for the awesome graphics and the multiplayer aspect. Looking forward to see how single player really is though. I do love RPG games so I think this will satisfy me along with Aralon.
I always mistkae the release date as 5th Dec,so everytime I come here I get disappointed at the (Out 9/Dec) part.
I can't wait! The demo is like a playstation game. So will you be able to run around in the full version? There were a lot of closed areas in the demo and with an environment like that it'd be a shame for it not to be sandbox.
Unfortunately, it wont be a sandbox. It still looks like it's gonna be a lot of fun & oh soooo pretty!
Watch Touchgen's gameplay series to see how the movement works. You basically just tap to move to the next fight. http://www.touchgen.net/infinity-blade-preview-part-1 http://www.touchgen.net/infinity-blade-preview-part-2 http://www.touchgen.net/infinity-blade-preview-part-3
It's true. Don't fret though, as it's a beautiful looking game. It's more along the lines of virtual sword fighting, while leveling up stats and acquiring awesome gear, which you will gain more experience from. More bosses, equipment, areas and multi played are slated to come as additional updates later, at no cost. YouTube Infinity Blade to get a better idea of the game. Here are Pocketgamer impressions: http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/Various/Infinity+Blade/news.asp?c=25712 Excerpts: "Id's*RAGE takes a second seat to what developer ChAIR has managed with Unreal Engine 3 - though after a quick play through the first part of the game, it's striking how it also balances role-playing elements and straightforward controls to provide an engrossing experience." "Combat itself is surprisingly varied, despite initial worry over the gesture-based control scheme. Contrary to conventional wisdom, battles aren't turn-based; instead, they play out in real-time with deliberate swipes, taps, and gestures drawn on the screen to attack, block, and cast magic. Depending on your timing, you're able to block incoming attacks, dodge them by tapping left and right arrows at the bottom of the screen, or parry by swiping a finger in tandem with your opponent's attack. It's not a scribbling affair - you're encouraged to observe enemies as they prepare attacks, block to avoid damage, and think tactically. There's also a combo system where you earn extra experience for stringing attacks and landing mega hits."
I'm sorry dude They created undriveable PORSCHE where You can only look through the window Feel like a passanger, just like RAGE
I don't really understand all the hype behind this game. From what I've heard, the single-player campaign consists of one level that you repeatedly grind to level up. I may be wrong, but if a console RPG only had one mission, it would suck. I'm not saying it looks bad, but could someone please explain why its being so hyped up. I just don't really get it.
I think it kind of sucks that only ipod/iphone 4, ipod touch 3g(32gb+) and iPhone 3GS users can play this game.
