Has anyone here read this yet? Is it pretty good? I read the sample piece it gave me and it was pretty compelling, and that was just the sample. And for $2.99, it sounds like a steal. I am just wondering if any Touch Arcadians here have read it and their personal thoughts.
Are you serious? I can name 3 off the top of my head that have been based on a video game that were... simply phenomenal... Dead Space: Martyr World of Warcraft: The Well of Eternity Series Diablo: Legacy of Blood Gears of War: Aspho Fields You seriously have never read a book based on a video game? I am a total nerd for video games, and learning even more lore about some of my favourite games is nothing but a sheer delight. Plus it's not like most of the books are written by some random hand-picked fans that passed High School Literacy. Decent to Amazing writers write these shits lol...
Yeah, I'm totally serious. I should've been more specific, though. A book based on a game, that has a simple, boring back story like IB can't be decent, is what I actually meant. Anyway, it does apply to most books based on games imo. The worlds of video games are usually dumbed down so that even the most idiotic people can understand and enjoy the game, also those worlds don't fit the writing of someone nearly as well as one, that he created on his own. /I'm of course saying this as a huge fantasy fan, so I might think that a good setting is more important than it actually is./
I think I kind of get what you are saying more now. I was about to reach through the computer and choke you to death. lmfao video game stories for the most part are dumbed down, or left leaving shit out, so that the gamer can enjoy and digest a lot of it. That's why I like the books fo such games afterwards, to go in depth because I actually like the atmosphere and story of the games I read the books of (if I didn't, I wouldn't read them to begin with) Infinity Blade does have that really bizarre mystery behind it though since the last couple updates, and judging from the (fantastic) reviews the Book got on the iTunes book store, it reveals a lot of the bizarre sci-fi mystery behind the game itself. And for $2.99, I think I kind of want to figure out what that is. LOL. I was just trying to figure out if anyone else has read the book is all :>
Meh, I prefer more complicated stories. Not complicated in a way that reveals side stories of an already complete and finished plot, but ones that are meant to be like that originally. :x Well maybe, IB lasted like ten minutes on my iPod after each of the first few updates, haven't even bothered with the later ones. It's just not a fun game. Well, tell me how it is if you read it. I won't read it anyway, but that's because I hate reading my touch/computer.
I get you. Books like the Well of Eternity series (WoW) satisfy that for me though. They are complete and separate stories, making a few references to main characters in the World of Warcraft, but with a story never before told. They were extremely good fantasy books imo, but then again I am not toally a book reader much anymore these days. After I got married I kind of just... halted reading by like 99%. No idea why. I found it to be mindless fun with a weird sci-fi twist. After all, I am a huge Sci-Fi nerd. hahahha I had my fun with it. Plus it was fun leveling up all the items and shit. Bah. I liked it. Enough to buy the book! Like I said I just picked it up, might read a few chapters when I get done with work if I get done before the day is over. With no internet, and save for the fact that i am not moving out again, I will have the book read by the end of the weekend lol it doesn't seem long.
I actually quite liked the Halo series of books maybe a bit cheesy but enjoyable I've also read a dead space one I thought was ok can't remember the title though. No idea if an infinity blade one would be good or not but I am interested in understanding the games plotline a little better maybe next time I have some credit I'll give it a shot.
Yes! I read the "The Fall of Reach" too! It was decent, not bad, but I hear they got much better, just never had the time. Definitely check out Dead Space: Martyr. it's fantastic, very visual, the characters are both likable and hate-able (in the very best way) and the plot is astounding. Towards the beginning it seems little jumpy, as it features 5 different scenarios going on at once, but all ties in devilishly well. Highly recommended. And yeah just started IB:A, not far in though. Should have it done by the weekend if I have enough time. Very excited for this one!
Have a copy now although I'm reading a few different books at once at the minute but the first few chapters seem promising enough kind of like they are continuing the plot just after the game. I can see the book making me want to play the game more it's something I've only played in quite short bursts. Also I think Dead Space Martr is the one I've read if it involves submarines etc I think it is.
If you think that you may be playing the wrong games. There are tonnes of games that have a huge lore based around them and have created a complete new world. Both old and new.
For example? I know there are a few /mostly older RPGs such as Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment and such/, but stories of newer games are usually just boring and unoriginal.
The infinity blade book seems pretty small in honesty it's interesting enough if you like the game but if you don't I wouldn't bother. I read for about an hour yesterday and I'm almost done with it now I do read pretty fast but that's quick even for me, On the plus side it does explain a lot like why you fight one on one duels and lots about the deathless etc. I don't think it will be winning any awards but if you like the game and want to know more it is probably worth the price.
Im not talking about stories. Im talking about the game worlds. For instance Mass Effect has created a brand new world with all new races, creatures, places, cultures. It does not have boring lore, world or setting.
Hm, I can't really comment on this, since sci-fi has never been my thing. But as for the current games set in fantasy worlds, it's all the generic Tolkien-inspired elf/orc/human/dwarf setting.
I will give you that. They all are variations on the one world really. And if you enjoy fantasy that could get annoying so I do understand your point of view.
You have to go through the store in iBooks at least I did. edit: Finished the book now, not bad they definitely left it ready to be continued and there are a few surprises in there. Despite it's smallish size I'll definitely be looking to read the next one as well.
Finished it in two sittings. Just grabbed this one yesterday. The book was quite short, but overall very enjoyable. It exceeded my expectations at least, having never read a video game inspired novel. Went through 50-75 bloodlines of IB since buying it on debut day, and finally deleted it two days ago. Didn't want play too much of IB2 before reading the book after hearing all the positive impressions on it. Now, I'm definitely ready, and very pumped, to play through IB2. The novel leaves off at a very appropriate place. Looking forward to the next installment as well. I knew the summary of the book after playing three rebirths on IB2, but it definitely cleared a lot of things up in the last few chapters. Lol, somehow I kept thinking Isa would hook up with (fall for) Ausar throughout the read. Maybe next time. But yeah, can't wait to play through the game now.
