I think I've found my new favourite developer, The Woods and Indigo Lake are class acts and genuinely worthy titles. Visually you know what's important rather than just relying on raw tech, the gameplay and the world are well crafted and the controls are brilliant, feel fluid, weighted and natural. For me they're easily the best I've experienced on the platform and I don't feel like I'm fighting the whole touch/FPS thing like I normally do on device. Really, really impressed. Anyone who doesn't grab this or is holding out for a sale needs a good slap in the wotsit.
Well, I sat down for a second session with the game, and found myself completely underwhelmed and disappointed when it all simply ended a couple of minutes later. I can't blame the developer for my expectations in that regard (that's on the Cow and his post at the beginning of the thread ), but claims of an eight-hour gameplay experience are grossly exaggerated. Even if somebody fully explores all the buildings and side-areas, and gets stuck on one of the two more obscure puzzles, I can't see this taking them much longer than two hours to complete, and realistically, probably not much longer than one. Based on comments made in this thread, I was expecting more of the island to open up after reaching the army base, but the short trip up the hill actually covers all the gameworld there is. In addition, the game actually becomes considerably less scary once the spirits turn up; they don't really do much other than hover about, and getting rid of them feels like swatting annoying flies rather than banishing terrifying, deadly ghosts. Being stalked through the raging storm by the Spoiler glowing-eyed, nigh-invulnerable axe-wielding doctor was actually one of the creepiest parts of the game, but unfortunately that section was over far too quickly. One of the biggest offenders with regard to mood is actually the vehicle, which makes you invulnerable to everything while you're zooming around. The atmospheric presentation of the game definitely raises expectations in terms of future iOS adventure games, but I just wish these developers possessed the resources to make something more substantial (it's unfortunate that if they're not an established big-name studio porting an existing game, iOS developers are still largely stuck making short "mobile games" that they have to sell for insultingly low prices). I don't regret picking this up, though, and on the plus side, IL has certainly compelled me to replay Alan Wake for the nth time. ^_-
Yea, I understand the frustration. It seems difficult to find a game that doesn't have at least one of these issues: 1. 'Hours of gameplay' - 2 hours? Maybe 4? 6 if we're lucky (or slow). 2. Ten to twelve level campaigns 3. Infinite/Arena mode - they never actually convince me of much replayability after a deadly short campaign. 4. Asynchronous multiplayer - really? What a cheap corner to cut around today's technology and multiplayer standards. It's the year 2013. P.S. - IL has me interested, regardless. Seems to have a good response from the community.
Too early to ask about the Android version, right? It *is* technically the weekend. Absolutely loving this. Still can't wrap my head around the file-size!!!
No, it's fantastic. I was going to reply the same to the guy asking for IAP. They are just non-existent, traditional premium gaming here.
Are you sure ive got some great ideas to add 3 different currency systems, gold, gem, dollars, ghost dollars (same as the gems but cost twice as much).
I'm stuck trying to find the last suicide note. Spoiler One near the start of the game, on that tree near video camera. One on each cabin, totals 7. So that's 8. The last one? PS: Can i trade 1.39 of her red eyes for your dollar please .
This... LOL The game doesnt look like it has all the highest res textures, but the whole composition just works so well that it sets the intensity of the mood so right. Also, this isnt a 60-framer, but a 30-framer, which for me is a smooth standard, and may contribute to the low file size as well. Another mindblowing thing is that the whole island is basically one seamless travel from one end to another, meaning no load times. Cram that into a 150mb and it's amazing how it came out.
We capped the frame rate as we did not know what new hardware was coming out on the 22nd, there was a chance it would run to fast and muck things up. Once we have had a go on the new hardware we will uncap it.
Dont forget Indigo stones. Car needs gas, and once you're out (about 10km distance), add a 30 minute timer before to gas up and be able to use it again. Add life points. You have 3 life by default. Everytime you die, you lose 1 life. Losing all 3 lives will require 15 minutes per life point to be restored, or buy IAP for instant replenish. You can also increase the total life points to 10, buy buying each life point at a buck each. Oh and everytime you see a ghost, you faint for 10 minutes unless you bought some courage points. And dont forget to add in a ghost that takes 78 full clips of headshots to kill. Then you can boast a "hardcore-players-only" and ultra challenging gameplay. Of course, there is a purchasable laser gatling which takes only 55 clips of body shots to kill the said ghost. A soft cheat if you may, for those not hardcore enough.
