Anybody dig indie music? Doesn't have to be literally independent, the record label doesn't necessarily define the music. Indie can be anything you think is outside the mainstream in one way or another.

I'm a junkie for indie rock, pop, singer-songwriters etc. My top 5 albums of the year so far:

    Halcyon Digest by Deerhunter
    Lisbon by The Walkmen
    High Violet by The National
    Teen Dream by Beach House
The Wild Hunt by The Tallest Man on Earth

I'm one album behind on all of those (except Tallest Man, which is new to me). I really like the new Stars.

Things i've been listening to recently:

    -Connan Mockasin
    -Caribou
    -Four Tet
    -Warpaint
    -Local Natives
    -Noah and the Whale
    -Foals

Some of these crossover into other genres a bit, but Indie's quite a mishmash these days :p

What's wrong with Deerhunter? Microcastle is an awesome album.

Indie is such a broad genre, I love arcade fire, but i hate Vampire Weekend with a passion, so i guess i have mixed feelings about it

It really is, and so hard to classify bands as such.

Absolutely, I'd put it over anything else this year in fact... Anyway nice list. NMH's In the Aeroplane... Is one of my fave albums of all time.

I forgot Arcade Fire's The Suburbs on my list. They'll never top Funeral though, I'm afraid.

    Anybody like Animal Collective?

It's hard to name any album that tops Funeral - I can't see that one ever falling off my top 10 list.

Lately I've been listening to Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Home is absolutely amazing.

Anyone have any thoughts on Sufjan Stevens latest (The Age of Adz)? I've been a huge Sufjan fan for years, but I just can't get into this one.

Yea, I've been meaning to spend more time with ADZ, I think it's a grower. I've only listened to it start to finish once, so I can't fairly judge it. I liked Seven Swans more than Illinoise, so I'm not your typical Sufjan fan either.

Totally agree about Funeral too; it's one of the few records I'll probably listen to for the rest of my life.
