Dangit, why can't this be out in the US yet?? I can't handle this suspense any longer! NEED. THIS. NOW.
Game Impressions Sick and tired of iPad/universal games not allowing you to customize controls position. This is unplayable for me as is on the iPad. Leaving the player with no choice but to suicide and start from the beginning of the level because they happened to miss a (hidden) node in one of the earlier areas they no longer have access to is bad, bad, BAD game design. At one point my gun ceased firing. Not talking about when it "overheats" or whatever. I simply wasn't able to shoot. The sound was going but no bullets coming out. Had to completely reset the app. When the gun does fire, it makes one of those "crackling" noises that sounds like you have a faulty speaker. The gameplay itself feels mostly like a re-skin of Meganoid. Not impressed one bit overall, and caution advised.
hmm... thanx for sharing the issues you experienced. did you only experience them on iPad, or did you have the same issues on iPod as well? I'm still going to buy it because I love OrangePixel, and have been so excited for this game after seeing the first trailer they put up on FB months ago... And OrangePixel is fairly quick in solving issues that are reported... actually, I'm kind of surprised that they haven't joined in the conversation here yet. But I'm sure they will... =o)
The gun bug(?) occurred both on iPad 2 and iTouch 4. The "crackling" is even worse on the iTouch. Obviously on the iTouch the controls aren't an issue but I paid $2 for an advertised "universal" version with intent to play this on my iPad.
I've played several levels but haven't experience the "no shooting" bug on my iPad. I cranked up the volume, to check the shooting sound effects. There's a dull thud and also a higher sound, which you're probably referring to as crackling - but it sounds okay to me. I agree with you about the level design, as I just found myself in an area with no exit, forcing me to use the pause menu to suicide.
Hi guys, let's see if I can help out with some "problems" here The fire/jump button being to close is actually a design. Some areas of the game will require you to jump and shoot at the same time. So pressing close to the center of both buttons will do both at once, pressing more away from that spot will do only one of the two. The gun not firing, I'm guessing you are not talking about the "reload" moment of the gun? (if you keep holding the shoot button, it will eventually just do a *click* and not shoot, releasing shoot and pressing it again will reload the gun). We haven't noticed the bug of not firing, so any details you could give on where and when it happens would be great! Only a few levels will have you restart if you missed a booster.. we designed this as a challenge (seeing as restarting is just a second work) and it happens slightly more in later levels where boosters can be really hard to grab in some cases. We like our games challenging and on the edge of frustration maybe we should add a warning label to our games from now on. And someone mentioned an area without an exit? every level has one, so would love to know more details on that! We are looking into the crackling sound, think we fixed that on Android but forgot the iOS sound effect (sorry guys!). best fix for now: level up quick, cause the new weapon makes another sound
"Exit" was a bad choice of words. I've ended up near the exit but with only 2 of the 3 boosters, but was unable to go back into the level to find the last one, as the path back was too high for jumping up to. It wasn't a biggie, just meant I had to suicide through the pause menu.
INC has iCade and also Joypad support. We can't test the iCade config ourselves, so if there is any button-remapping required let us know !
Yep just tried this earlier this morning, it does need the buttons remapping slightly (the jump/shoot buttons arent right next to each other) but still playable. I'll email you details about it. But played it this morning and loving it. Top marks to Orange Pixel, thats 4 platform games by them which now have iCade support.
Are you planning to update the game with the option to freely move the on-screen controls around on the iPad? I'd like to know so I can just delete it now if not.
To be honest, we are waiting for more feedback.. so far there hasn't been many complaints about the controls, but the game is only just released. We will look into it and see if there are more complaints and what the best way will be to fix it, but it's not on the top of our todo list yet. sadly with touch-controls it will always be hard to get it right for every type of gamer/person/hands
Precisely. That's why I keep saying the controls should be user-configurable on the iPad (freely movable around the screen then locked in position) so they may be set by each user to their particular preference. A number of games have done it in the past, surely it can't be that difficult? This game, as well as Meganoid and Stardash would all benefit greatly from this feature. (And let's be honest: since all three games are barely more than re-skins with additional levels and minor gameplay variations, once you implement it for one you can easily add it to the others.) In any case, for what it's worth: I've bought every single game you've released both on the iPhone and iPad. Yes, even Mini Plane and Time Chaos. But you have lost me with this one. I bought it to play on the iPad but can't. Deleted and rated one star for the moment.
I'm having the no bullets problem too... The gun will make the shooting sound, and then the click click click... Tap the shoot button again, no bullets, but get the sound... Then the click click click, over and over again. I can't get through the second level because you need to shoot the little box to make the thing pop up, and I've got no bullets... Restarting and quiting does nothing... Just go back into the level with no bullets...
We are looking into the "no bullet" problem. Haven't been able to replicate it yet but we are hunting it down asap!
What's the word on framerate? Meganoid was a slick little game but the framerate was quite low. Does INC run at 60 fps? If not, at least a solid 30?
Ok... Got this at 4 am yeah I overslepted... :/ anyhow my really really quick impressions (haven't even past the 2nd level) are this is a really solid platformer, (of course you expected that, it's OP ) but I'm experiencing the no bullets thing too. I'll try restarting the app, though!
