Hi John. RAGE is a fun game (best dollar spent so far), but a few things could be improved. Touch screen control would be nice, a variety of weapons, and multiplayer. Besides these few negative aspects for me, its a great game.
No I didn't, where did I make the comparison? I said they are one in the same as both platforms aren't designed for FPS games and it shows. Clearly all the game has going for it is the tech, like any new game from ID. Learn to read, then learn some comprehension skills.
well can think of one improvement, when you look around, the screens always returns to the center, very irritating, the screen should only move when the person is walking, not when you try to hit an enemy at the left of the screen, my finger is in the way of the screen because when i let it go it returns to the center again. and indeed put the pause button somewere else!
+1 to adding better Gyro aiming. Lying in bed is really the only chance I get to play iPhone games. Aiming a gun as if you were steering a car is completely alien feeling after trying out the gyro controls in some of the newer shooters. Gyro aiming, challenges and leaderboards and I will be a walking advertisement for this game. Thanks for the good work!
I would love to see another RAGE game on my iTouch. It is without a doubt the best bang for the buck on the Appstore. I would love to see more seasons added to the current game as a free update or even DLC(I mean wouldn't mined paying). One of my ideas for an upcoming RAGE game that you should make is a racing game (How Awesome would that be?) where you race against mutants(like what you see in the opening when you first open Mutant Bash TV). I would definitely purchase that. It would definitely sell. I'll let you guys know if I have more ideas. So, who agrees with me that they should make a RAGE racing game.
Hi Mr Carmack. I only have one request/gripe...please add a further control i.e. Invert on/off for touch control Without affecting the viewing aspect of the tilt control. Currently, I need to invert both horizontal and vertical viewing and that works great for me, BUT, it also inverts the touch control, which I dont want...I would like the option to invert 'All' aspects of control. Hope you can understand my explanation. Big props to you and I.D. Software for a truly brilliant game...I can't put it down. Also more levels like Activision's C.O.D Zombies...that would ensure longevity IMHO.
I have a question for you, John, if I may. You mention that there are technical and design considerations involved in not turning this into the free-roaming shooter that many of us would have dearly wished that this was; I presume this is primarily a control issue specifically relating to touchscreen controls? Is it a screen size issue that could perhaps be relaxed on the iPad? Although not to belabour the question of making this particular title a free-roamer, my more significant question is that you said that free-roaming is not "for this series" which I presumes that if a further Rage game is to be released on iOS, it won't be a free-roamer either, is this correct? If not, are you planning on any free-roaming titles for iOS? It has been shown already that viable (if not completely ideal) FPS control schemes are perfectly doable on touchscreen devices from a number of different developers, and although I'm pretty proficient with technical concepts, I don't know what your specific issues are in this regard, but can we expect to see such a thing in future titles?
Having the ability to turn vibration off in app would be awesome! Having to turn it off globally for the phone is a bit of a pain. Thanks! -VK
I love the idea of the game show type thing. For my purchase just added movement i cant stand rail shooters.
Traps, secrets I would love to see some environmental effects. Effects that could damage the mutants. Say a dilapidated roof has a loose piece, and you have .5 seconds to shoot it and if you do the whole roof caves in on a gang of mutants. Or say there are actual traps where if you hit a certain part. a spring loaded wall with spikes comes out and maims a bunch of mutants. or a loose floor. you get the idea. Also maybe some secret rooms. and maybe a melee weapon when they are up close to at least push them back. or just a shove button.
I really love the game, I've beaten the first two levels and will probably finish it up soon. One of my concerns is repetitiveness. Since it's a pretty linear game, I don't mind much because really, what else can you do? My problem is that the levels are pretty long with few breaks so it gets a bit frustrating doing the same thing over and over again. And because I kept running out of ammo, most of the time I was just using the handgun. I think there should be more levels that are a bit shorter.
Since this is a pretty much straightforward game. Apart from gamecenter. I would like something u can do with the cash u earn to buy new weapons or maybe just experience with perks or something. In short just something of a character buildup :3 would add a lot more fun to the overall experience I think
Like tons of people, I ain't likin' the rails. But since you guys are immovable on hat point, let's talk about how to improve what is annoying about rails. When you're standing there shooting at baddies that are far away and are either coming towards you or throwing things at you, the rails feel pretty natural. Cuz that's pretty much what you'd do even if there weren't rails. In some ways, the little dodges to avoid projectiles is almost preferable to fre roaming, as you don't have to totally shift your perspective to keep from getting hit. The rails bug me when the baddies get right up in yer face. If there weren't rails, you'd run the heck away. You'd back off, get some distance and shoot at them from the relative safety of a few yards away. That's what a gun is for- to use some RPG parlance, it's a missle weapon, it's for shooting at things from far away where they can't hit you. In a free roaming FPS, even if I'm totally cornered with my back against a wall, I'll still try to charge through the mob, taking whatever damage necessary to break free, because the worst thing anybody with a missle weapon can do is just stand there and take damage at close range. So being stuck in one place while a zombie just scratches me to death, with my only defense is those tiny ineffectual dodges, is extremely frustrating. You're being forced into a melée battle, but you're not in any way equipped for it. Possible solutions: (other than the obvious solution of making it free roaming) 1) Make range matter. The closer the baddies are, the more the bullets should hurt them. If they're close enough to stab me, then we're talk g point blank range. One hit should take their head clean off. 2) Equip us for a melée fight. Defense especially is currently lacking. Give us a police riot shield or something. The shove button above is a good idea. Melée weapons should either be more effect e than guns at close range, or they should push the baddies back a bit. 3) Make the rails smarter. After you get hit a couple of times, the rails should back you up. Maybe just a few yards, maybe all the way back to the previous stopping place. You could make backing up itself into a negative consequence (short of death) as it could make it take longer to clear the level. Anybody else agree that it's the melée that makes the rails lame? Would those solutions change your mind about the rails? Hey John, I live in Austin, and I hate my job. Any time ya want me to come by an regale you with my genius ridden ideas, just gimme a buzz!
Best rail shooter of the sort, never liked "Time crisis" on the iphone. This is better because the touch controls work, and untill i get my iphone 4 To try out the gyro controls. Now maybe in the future the game will be updated with some new maps and or weapons would be much appreciated!!!
First off. This game is awesome, i was worried the on rails thing would ruin it, and the whole mutants/zombies is not my cup of tea, but i love it... Save games The most important feature that i can Think of is cloud save games across all idevices, starting from square one on the iPad after playing on the phone, just kills motivation. If game center supports saving score and progress that would be cool, so that we don't need to create an other account just for that Controls the tilt thing is impossible to use, we do need gyro, it's perfect for aiming, and the thing that makes free roaming possible in future releases, without it, free roaming would be pointless Game mode suggestions Co-op could work if the tasks were split up, i for one would like to try field medic duty, trying to revive injured players, or helping injured players exit the "hot zone" engineer could blow up doors, arrange extraction, Solve puzzles, activate elevators. Call for backup.. Time trial Immortal, against the clock with unlimited ammo Mods Open the door for mods, it will add so much value to the game, and we will have something to play with between now and rage2;-) 2player Side by side, like time crisis Red/blue 3D A single stage for the fun of it i for one, am a little bored with shooting zombies, aliens, nazis "opposing forces" i would like a game themed like namco's point blank, with characters like teddybears, rubber ducks, and other toys, with blood that looked like frosting on a cake. maybe a possessed toy store. filled with funny, creepy, angry, sweet little toys just wanting to get blown to hell. so i'm voting for something less serious, with the same amount of action, quality and speed, i should think that it have been established that your 3d engine kicks ass, and you can afford to just have fun, without needing to bring armageddon;-) i can imagine the endless possibilities with an engine like this, why stop at what we already can imagine or if thats not an option a mini game designed together with HR.Giger, it could be an artwork /thanks for years of entertainment and supporting other platforms than m$
App store availability Here is the deal on why some regions don't get I'd products on the app store, as it was explained to me a couple weeks ago. This is third hand, so it might not even be correct. For most regions, Apple automatically deals with a lot of local taxation issues, but some regions require the developer to file local taxes on the profits generated there. Im sure a lot of developers just completely ignore those issues, but a company like Zenimax is scrupulously above board on issues like that, and they have made the decision that they would rather forgo the revenue from those regions than bring in the additional paperwork. I will be mentioning it when I am at corporate HQ next week, but it isn't an issue that I am going to try to raise a stink about. It would be ideal for Apple to solve it once for the thousands of iOS developers, even if it was at a modest surcharge. John Carmack
thanks for responding. I hope you will make every effort to make this great game is lanzadao worldwide. Here in Mexico we are very sad about that is not available in the app store Mexican and we really want to buy the game.
Really appreciate the effort put into this game. It looks absolutely gorgeous. At the price tag of only $1.99, I feel ashamed to complain about anything. But if there was just one thing I would add, it would be the addition of RPG elements into the game, even if it was just to buy new guns/upgrades/equipment with the money that you get. That adds a tremendous amount of replayability for me, even if the levels are the same. I've been playing Gun Bros quite a bit lately, so I really like the abundance of weapon/equipment that you can buy your character in the game, even if there are only two levels so far.
