This has been touched on by many already; I'm just another voice for gyroscope support. It would make non-touch aiming much easier.

Anyway, great job id. The game is a terrific value and a pleasure to play.

Now that I have played it a lot, here are my suggestions:

I would like to see an option to disable the auto-turning. I understand why the decision was made to force you to face the new content coming up. But it is kind of frustrating to be a split second away from grabbing something only to be spun around with no time to look back. Also, I consistently feel like I’m fighting against a rubber band that is trying to make me look away from what I am aiming at.

Also, I am not crazy about the pause button placement / functionality. Either move the pause button to the top of the screen, or make it so you must tap it, and not let it be pushed by swiping over it. Numerous times I accidentally press pause while turning with my left thumb. This is compounded by the above issue because I am compelled to swipe further when pushing against the auto-turning.

Overall: Amazing game. Best value. Best graphics. Super fun and intense. Rails don’t bother me. Can’t wait for RAGE on my PC.

I am using a ipod touch 3g 32gb running Rage SD. I found the accelerometer control very cumbersome. Many times I actually became fursturated with it. Please improve that.

I registered to contribute to this. :)

First, thank you, Mr. Carmack for your attention to the iOS platform and your willingness to listen to fans. It's very refreshing and encouraging for the future of iOS gaming.

Here are my suggestions and impressions from Rage:

    1. As everyone else has said, the pause button is in a very difficult position. Using the touch controls, it's very easy to slide a finger over it and pause accidentally. Either move it, or...

    2. Customizable touch controls would be great. Gameloft's FPS games allow the player to drag the touch controls anywhere on the screen. This is a great implementation.

    3. Option to turn off the auto-center when looking around. It's very annoying and frustrating, when using the touch controls, that sometimes I'll drag across the screen to aim at a mutant, only to find I'm at the screen's edge and I can't look any further and I'm just short of aiming right at it, or I'll take my finger off the screen (expecting the view to stay where it is), only to miss my shot as it snaps-back to the center. I understand your reasoning, but at the very least when the character is standing still, it would be very nice to have an option to turn off the auto-center, and have more freedom to look and aim around. One idea is to be able to turn it completely off, but include a touch button that can snap the view back to the default "rails" direction when the player wants to return to that view.

    4. Please check out Gameloft's implementation of FPS touch controls. I realize this isn't a free-roaming FPS, but there are many things that would still work well. One example that I miss is being able to hit the "fire" button, and then drag that finger around the screen and the aiming follows my finger while still shooting.

    5. Let us use the Bash Bux for something. Let us buy better in-game weapons with them (more weapons would be awesome). Let us "bet" them on new episodes and potentially win more if we survive. Let us buy bigger ammo clips or better health/armor or something that will help in-game. Also — shooting a projectile instead of just dodging it should win some bux. There's a lot more you could do with this that's not there. Spending bux on better weapons would be a great way to increase replay value that I don't think would be too hard to add — it's well worth it.

    6. More episodes? A season 2? I don't even care if its an in-game purchase, but the game is too short right now, without enough replay value (though implementing #5 would help a lot with that already).

    7. The announcer is fun, but he doesn't announce headshots? Or rapid-kill streaks? Announcing these kinds of things would be great, and give a bigger sense of satisfaction for mid-round accomplishments.

    8. This is fun for an on-rails shooter. And I respect your decision to make it on-rails. But I'm really looking forward to the next Rage-based iOS games and would love it if you expanded to a free-roaming FPS. In particular, I've been waiting for a good arena-based FPS a la Unreal Tournament that's playable both online against players and offline against bots. I think the Rage universe would be perfect for this. (That's actually what I was hoping this game would be until I heard it was on-rails.) Maybe it's another show to which winners on Mutant Bash TV advance, to face off against other winners?

    9. As a 2nd gen iPod Touch owner, I'm okay with it if you don't support older devices. I'm very happy that I can play the standard def version of this, but I'm okay with waiting until I upgrade to play your next game if it means a better, faster, higher-quality, more impressive game that really takes advantage of the newer hardware.

Thanks! I hope you'll read these and consider the suggestions!

Sorry again if I repeat myself but no one answered so ONCE AGAIN :

What does that mean if it has been cleared that no more levels will be added ?

Secondly I would strongly advice people once again to stop considering rails as a restriction.

Rail shooter is a video game genre :

    - Time Crisis
    - House of The Dead
    - Panzer Dragoon
    - Sin and Punishment

Not bad games uh ? No, more like freakin incredible legends if you d asked me.

And once again here's I think a strong suggestion (I may repeat myself but I so believe in it) :

    Rank mode

Did you play phoenix, the shmup ?
The difficulty rank gauge on the up left side of the screen ? When you kick ass dodge etc it s raising and the game is getting harder, when you suck it s lowing down.
Incredible system since in order to survive you sometimes have to take damage to bring down the gauge etc... Very old shmup system, and yeah rail shooter is just a shmup in 3D you know....

    Please think about it....

yep but still. its too short. 3 levels onleh? and only personal high scores as the only motivation for replaybility? i wouldn't say the genre is restricted but this game could definitely be a lot better. if there are no future feature updates on this game then i would be sorely disappointed. :\

i'm all up for IAP for more features and levels and stuff since the game launched so cheap.

My device is in the shop, when it gets back online I will grab the lo-fi version of this ad give it a well-deserved spin. In the meantime, I would like to point some obvious issues that I can sense as an interested party who's not yet actually played the game:

    - gorgeous graphics. Impressive tech. id is at the top of their game what else is new. Gald to see you guys embracing "the mini market" especially as it is blowing up (in a good way).

    - controls - this is where R&D must be done. Graphical fidelity is already past a huge threshold, as mentioned. I'd love to see a heavy-hitter studio such as id pay specific attention to the notion that so many of their audience want to enjoy a graphically intensive experience on their mobile device, but are just so hamstrung my the primitive control notions that they are disinterested in paying the upfront to see what the party is about. iPhone/touchscreen gaming is still in it's infancy, and therefore most devs haven't really thought too heavily about how to make proper use of the available input mechanics. Often, I hate a game where my finger noticeably blocks the action. I can't stand driving games where I consistently need to adjust the device (and my viewing angle) to affect my vehicle.

These are all issues which can be worked out with trail and error, enormous (and delicate) testing, and a strong desire to overcome the issue rather than just dance around it or fight it. There's lots of little devs who are making inroads to making wonderfully designed touchscreen games where your finger is not at all interrupting the action. I'd love to see a higher level of thought (and experimentation) put into how the things feels.

    Thanks for your time!

Dude, have You ever seen PORSCHE driving by automatic pilot?
When I was playing this game I felt like I got a ride in the newest carrera model where I can only look thru the window.

Im not gay but I love You man for all You've done in the past.
My childhood would look different without goods from You! ;)
    BUT
Making such an engine that drives by itself is a mistake! IMHO
Let us drive this babe! Give us FPP man!:p

Many people can't admit there is some other game genre other than the few they are used to play. It's sad but it's fact. So it's the first flaw, a flaw I don't care myself, RAGE seems too close to standard PC first person shooters.

The forced and timed moving are a key of the frenetic and very intense gameplay, and that's why it offers sensations I never found in a standard first person shooter. For sure when I master a standard fps I can do some parts of the game like that but it's never been the same than like this is in Rage.

The limited angle view is a problem sometimes alas I don't see how the gameplay and current design could match with free angle view. That would break the forced moving that are very important to bring a plus in comparison with standard first person shooter. Have the hero move when he look backward would have been awful in this game.

That said the game could have been build differently to allow such gameplay. For example a handicapped guy upon a moving robot partially controlled :) and some careful management of hints to player for events from his back, knowing that most players on idevice won't use stereo for the audio so this would require an inventive design approach to manage it well.

Other than that I'd say that on iPad everything is working fine, touch controls very good, no problem with pause button (but customized buttons should be a standard), if the fps aren't perfect with the HD version I can't notice because the gameplay is too hectic. :)

In the first method, the tilting one, could you expand the zone where the thumb can aim ?

I kind of get lost quite often in a dead zone in the center-left part of the screen

    1. The intro movie - could you please expand it to fill the screen. I noticed the 2 black bars above and below so would prefer if it fit the screen.

    2. Increase the quality of the opening movie. It's great - I actually enjoyed it, but couldn't help notice all the pixelation! I know the "HD" moniker refers to the game itself, however it wouldn't hurt for the movie to match it!

    3. When tapping the opening movie AND also the tutorial - please prompt us if we would like to skip and not just assume so. When thE opening movie started playing, I actually tapped the screen because I thought it was a video file and was hoping the video buttons would show so that I could zoom the picture to get rid of the black bars, however it just skipped the movie. A prompt for the opening movie and the tutorial would be helpful.

    4. Please move the PAUSE button elsewhere. When playing the game using the "touchpad" - I always click it accidentally.

    5. I know you mentioned that you were hoping to make the game bigger in terms of data size. Please try not to over do it however. I really don't want to be installing 1.4GB games on my iPhone and if space becomes an issue - the largest stuff will usually go first.

i think that this game needs a shop with additional weapons. You could pause the game.....go to the shop, and use some of your earned money to buy weapons.

I think that the best bet would be to use the money to buy weapons, but the new weapons also gain you more points, so that you can make back the points that you used to buy the gun.

I also think that the shop could have ammo, for the people who arent quick enough to pick up ammo boxes (some times i find myself with half the level left and no ammo)

i think that perks should be added as pickups (double points, instakill and nuke come to mind) but there are more options.

I also think that grenades can be used, and there could be moltive cocktails, grenades and stunners.

I will also mention the pause button issue with the touch.....it is really annoying with dramatic view changes

finally, mele weapons for the up close zombies

    Mele Weapons:

    chainsaw
    knife
    baseball bat
    shovel

    Regular weapns:

    RPG
    grenade launcher
    flamethrower
    any powerful machine guns

Trollscience: With enough patience you can make infinite points in this game. You just need to maintain one enemy, and make a perfect reload with the normal gun (infinite ammo). Per each reload, you win points. Do it infinite times to gain infinite points.

    Problem Carmack?

I also am in Argentina and want to play this game. I don't want to have to use "alternative" methods. Please bring id games to the Argentinian AppStore.

Oh wow I hadn't thought of that. That definitely would become an issue if not fixed once Game Center leaderboards are added.

Oh btw you probably know this but just making sure since this would make a huge difference and should be very easy to fix: several people have been asking for iPod music functionality but this doesn't mean you guys need to put time in adding that as an actual feature in menu options etc. It's just that the game currently stops your iPod music when you start it or switch back to it, it multitasks fantastically in all other departments so if just that would be fixed it would be awesome.
