The Washington Post just did an article on a few iPhone developers in the Washington, DC area, including Imangi Studios! They also used a picture of Keith (aka @kshep, aka my husband) as the main picture for the article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/03/21/AR2009032100067.html Very cool!
Congrats! If only I could figure out how to make a stinking binary thing, then I could make a few bucks. Good job!
No. Her husbands in the pic. But Imangi Studios is him and her. So I was like, where were you? Get it?
Thanks guys! I'm glad you all enjoyed the article! We'll make sure Natalia is there next time, she deserves a lot of recognition for all her hard work as well! Plus, she's a lot cuter than I am ;-) -Keith
Thanks for all the nice words, guys! Yeah, Keith is Imangi Studios full time. I help on nights and weekends, and am a cog in a large corporate machine the rest of the time. Hence, no me in the picture.
Congrats on the coverage! Good read, too, and Todd brought up a great point that I've been saying for a while now and which has started me on the journey to iPhone development: The iPhone has brought back the excitement I felt about gaming when I was much younger. It's brought back that one-guy-and-a-computer (or two guys, or whatever) indie development fervor that I felt when I started programming on 8-bit systems way back. For me it hasn't even been (strictly) about making money on the App Store. It's been about the fact that it's really possible for one or two people or whatever to make something good on a platform and get good exposure to bring something to the platform that everyone has access to regardless of where they are. I love that.
Definitely! I wanted to get into the game industry after college, but everything seemed to be working on large titles at large studios. I've never really enjoyed working for big companies on projects that take years to complete. When the iPhone SDK first came out, it just all clicked. Finally there was a way for an individual or a small group of people to work on awesome games and have a chance to succeed. The iPhone platform is truly amazing! -Keith
I agree. I really would like to make something for the PS3, but really can't afford the $10K DevKit. I already have a mac and an iPod Touch, so it seems I'll likely dev for it first. Congrats for sure on the coverage! I hope it helps gen some sales for you. If nothing else, should feel cool to have your picture in the paper! LOL
Thanks everyone! Definitely cool to have my photo in the paper! My parents are so proud :-D Natalia just left the house to go and pick up a few copies. Not sure it's having any direct effect on sales, but I did notice a some extra hits on our website. -Keith
Here is a scanned in copy of the Washington Post Article: http://cli.gs/Ts13u0 My photo is huge in the paper. Pretty awesome! I love how the article is right next to "Recession Reading List". Pretty funny. -Keith
