Great post ! I was the same, over the moon when i read on twitter that iMame was available, i was counting the seconds it installed in case somehow it was pulled ! Then playing an old classic like Bomb Jack on my ipod was a dream, finally playing these games on my ipad/icade, just brilliant !!! I hope some other emulators somehow make the app store but either way having iMame is the best thing
Yes, but one thing is analog VS digital and another is relative position. Arcades had analog sticks. Let's say neutral position is 0% and you can go to 100% in 1% increments in any direction. That would be analog control, and it would be very helpful for driving games such as Out Run, for example, where you put the stick a little bit to either side to turn a little bit, or put the stick fully to either side to turn fully to that side. To change it to digital is as simple as eliminating all the % in between and only having 0% or 100% to the eight possible positions of the stick. In our Out Run example, it would mean that the car would turn a lot or nothing at all, but the input would be the same: the virtual stick. Having relative touch controls would be changing the control method to something completely different from what was designed in first place, not just eliminate % in between. I think it's impossible. Capcom Arcade had many things redone, including the controls. I don't think that's possible with the actual MAME philosophy of just emulating the arcades as they were. In fact, Capcom has tampered so much with their games that Final Fight multiplayer in Capcom Arcade is not compatible with multiplayer in Final Fight standalone, so imagine all the things they've touched in the games.
It does come with 7 games. But theres pages and pages in this thread on how to add games. Find the correct romset, use iExplorer and you can add 100's of classic arcade games to this. Its the best app i've played, so many great classic games
No jailbreak needed. Go here and scroll to the bottom to learn how to copy ROMs to iMAME from the App Store. - Les
Anyone figured out an easy way to change the default button config for the iCade? (sry if this has been asked already) I really want to change the black and white buttons to the SF layout for all games. Having button 1 and 2 as the white buttons just drives me crazy. Does this bother anyone else? Maybe i'm just a little too arcade fanatical, lol. I've built a few custom sticks and even own a candy cab. Who in their right mind would have wrote this button layout in iMAME for iCade?
Fantzone.zip (Fantasy Zone New Jap Vers.) crashes for me imediatly after killing one of the first pink guys. I've downloaded the game from a couple other sources and the same thing happens each time. Does anyone know how to fix this? EDIT: I've figured out you can play it by turning the sound off on the game set up screen before the game starts. If anyone knows how to play the game with sound without the game crashing please let me know.
Quick thing.... .....and this isn't exactly a biggie. Has anyone tried Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back vector arcade games. They look fantastic but the controls are shockingly bad. Can the sensitivity or something be changed for the iCade? I know they weren't joystick games when I was younger but I'm dying to have a good crack at them.
Editing the button mapping using an iCade doesn't seem to work very well. I just end up getting "..." after trying to map the first couple buttons. Is there a way to edit the default.cfg file itself? I'm just looking to standardize the layout similar to Street Fighter II Coin Btn1 Btn2 Btn3 Start Btn4 Btn5 Btn6
+1. With the "..." you never know which button is actually assigned for which input. But well, I won't complain as iMame+iCade=pure enjoyment anyways
Yeah finally got it working. Just had to take my time and make sure to hit the correct buttons. My mistake was thinking "..." was the same as no button selected.
Have you managed to remap the column of red buttons on the iCade successfully? They'll map for me, but as soon as I press a direction on the joystick + a red button, they won't respond, almost as if the red buttons are hard mapped somewhere else. I've remapped them in the current game, as well as the global defaults without any luck.
I left those alone for coin and start. The help instructions say these cant be remapped anyway. So that leaves 6 buttons available. Which happens to be enough for any game from the 80 and 90s. FYI, standard jamma arcade games only used 3 btns. Capcom and NeoGeo being the exception with 6 and 4 respectively.
