i fear that when imame returns to the appstore it will be a shell of its current state. no way to shoehorn in your own roms and far less configurable. that said, the emulator really isnt illegal, dev is doing no wrong but it could be roms included that have copyright problems.

not that im fussed, this versions rocks as it is! just wish it supported newer mame revisions.

I don't think age is a factor, I'm 30 and I've been using MAME for well over a decade. I'm sure there are kids here that have only experienced arcade and console classics through emulation. I miss real arcades so much. :(

You and me both fella. Living in central Scotland I had pretty much zero exposure to arcades other than the annual trip down to England on holiday and even then it was a day trip to one of the coastal towns eg Blackpool etc.

I think in the main though, it's older guys that love the Mame thing. For me it's having the ability to finally play all these great games I read about in magazines. There's a real buzz knowing I'm playing the ACTUAL game albeit through emulation. In my experience anyone who was born after the arcades had disappeared looks at these games as archaic, dull affairs which I guess is no wonder when all they known is immersive 3D affairs since the PSX etc.

I personally dont play flash games or that on the pc as the crude nature of the graphics turn me off but it's different with Mame as these games were honed to perfection (most at least anyway) and playing them bring back such beautiful nostalgic enjoyment.

But yeah, I'm sure there are many younger players enjoying Mame but I think you'll find in the main the majority were around during the arcade era.

You can connect up to 4 wiimotes and also use classic controller (it uses btstack therefore u need to jailbreak) However without Jailbreaking it works the icade controller and icontrolpad too. Id reco the icade- like having a mini arcade at home.

Reckon you'll be right. The thought of copyrights being infringed left, right and centre with people lobbing their own roms in would have terrified Apple.

Jailbreaking is an ace thing though, it's allowed me to play a full-fat version of this Mame4All plus a whole host of other retro loveliness as well as running loads of other cool stuff.

Thanks for the info. Seems like I'll need to jailbreak my iPad then.

It's a satisfaction playing street fighter 2 or final fight without paying capcom on AppStore!

They are not same games. I mean cab games are (was) made mainly for earn your money while console/device games are made to enjoy yourself.

MAME (and all classic emulators) is a way to relive the emotions of the past, not a good source of fun. Do you agree?

I disagree. In my view, arcade games were the freemium of their day. They sucked you in with the low-price entry point (.25) but were designed to keep you pumping in cash. It wasn't unusual to spend $40 bucks to beat a game (sound familiar?). The dynamics change, however, when you add free credits, though -- then it's just challenging, score-based fun :).

Terrible analogy. Arcade games were simply pay to play. Nothing more, nothing less. It was no different than going to blockbuster and renting a game for a few days. For 25 cents you could essentially beat a game; if you were good. You also didn't put in money for different aspects of the game, you put in a quarter and you got access to an entire game.

I have this same problem....my daughter was using my iCade, somehow got into the General menu, and changed the start button setting so that it doesn't work anymore. And now, I can't even access the menu.
I'm on a PC, and can't get that cfg. file from the link....does anyone have a solution for me? I'm dying...just got iCade yesterday, and now can't play any games!!!

It's an uncomfortable analogy (obviously it hit a nerve) but not incorrect -- I'll be developing the argument soon in the Game Discussion section. From a game design perspective there are many simIlarities.

No prob. Connect your iPad via USB and iExplorer. Then do the following.

I used to swear arcade games were rigged at certain spots to make you lose and have to continue. I would always be so mad but always had my rolls of quarters ready for more! Now we are dealing with Freemium games but I guess although it's a stretch it's kinda similar.

BTW: has anyone tried Puzzle de Pon yet? Neogeo game? Does it work?

Thanks!!! That worked, but now I have an issue where when I try to activate iCade, it keeps pulling up a keyboard and defaulting back to the touch control scheme. Any ideas?

Nevermind...just rebooted the iPad and all is fine.
I do have a question for iCade owners though; do you have issues with responsiveness? When playing games like Pacman I find that I often can't get it to go where I need it to be.
Is this just because of the joystick being different than the original, or is it possible that I have a defective iCade?
