I don't know of any period games like Final Fantasy in the arcades, but some action games have RPG-style leveling up. The Dungeons and Dragons games in particular have deep (for an arcade game) leveling and classes. Lots of games have minor leveling, such as Altered Beast or Armored Warriors (an EXCELLENT beat-em-up) or UN Squadron. There's always NES games via PlayChoice, too. I think Zelda 2 was ported to PlayChoice?
Tron (set 1) works. Pretty challenging tank battles in some Pac-Man sourroundings and other minigames (kind of collection).
Haven't been able to get any of the D&D games to work. Willow, however, does, and that one has some RPG elements, including health and weapon upgrades. Check out Knights of the Round Table.
iMame also crashes for me when I try to access Options on my un-jailbroken iPad 1. Does this mean I cannot add additional ROMs since I don't have the option to "rescan ROMs?" Also--and I realize this may be a really stupid question-- but is there a way to load additional ROMs without physically connecting the iPad to my computer--can it be done wirelessly with a remote desktop app or something else?
I posted a little history about the App Store iMAME app in another thread but let me recap here. The version that is in the App Store was based on my iMame4All Xcode Project for non-jailbroken iOS devices which in turn was based on Seleuco's iMame4All for jailbroken iOS devices. On my website I explain the changes that were needed to get iMame4All to work on non-jailbroken iOS devices and I have the full project there to download. Just load it into Xcode compile and install to your non-jailbroken device (well, now it's in the App Store so anyone can install it). Jim Van decided to take my iMame4All Xcode Project and clean it up and make it App Store compliant. Honestly though I didn't think there was a snowballs chance in hell for it to get approved so I'm quite suprised to see it up there. On my website I also explain what works and what doesn't work. Briefly, WiiMotes will never work because it requires low level access to the Bluetooth chipset which is only possible on jailbroken devices. As an alternative I added support for the iControlPad's special packet mode which will allow you to use the dual nubs for games like Robotron. More information can be found on my website linked above. - Les
Quick Mame question? I own on pc several of the compilation cd's.. for example Atari's greatest hits(atari 2600 games ,Intellevisions greatest hits , namco greatest hits. and williams greatest hits. can i just play these zip files on imame? they seem to be older files. How can you tell ?
A note about iControlPad support: When you connect your iControlPad you'll be prompted with a dialog box asking if you want to use iControlPad or iCade mode. If you don't need the dual nubs for games like Robotron then put your iControlPad in iCade Emulation mode and tap the "iCade" button. When the iControlPad is in spacial packet mode and you tap the "iControlPad" button it sends a lot of data over the Bluetooth connection when the nubs are moved and you'll experience a performance hit. So for the best experience put your iControlPad in iCade Emulation mode and choose "iCade" when prompted. - Les
hmmm i have a ipad also non-jailbroken on ios 5.x and i have no problems getting to the options menu. i know that doesn't help your situation but just to know it does work on at least one ipad. maybe a reinstall would help?
yes it works. u have to do the nvram fix like dodonpachi or it is upside down. esprade works with the nvram fix too.
Hi there Lesbird, just tried following your advice on loading ROMs, but I'm not seeing iMAME4all in the list of apps in file sharing... any tips? Thanks - D
Again it's all about the romset version. If you know it's the same romset then it'll work but I doubt it's the same. Just use google
Loving this!!!! Already got some of my all time favourites added (all works like a charm): - shinobi - wonder boy - double dragon - airwolf - alex kidd - batman - superman - teenage mutant ninja turtles - track&field - mortal kombat - out run - hang-on Still searching for a workable rom of the simpsons, moon walker & choplifter! All those i have tried failed big time But i will find them
yes it is in post #92 btw if you use the newest version of mame (0.144u3) to make the nvram (this is on win7 so i don't know about mac) then it makes a 'eeprom' file inside of a folder under the game's name in the 'nvram' folder. so for dodonpachi it was 'nvram->ddonpach->eeprom'. just rename the 'eeprom' file to 'ddonpach.nv' and put it on the ipad in the nvram folder and it should work.
Okay, great. I have the most recent version of MameUI on my PC but it's not recognizing any of the three games so I can't make the nvram.
Thanks. I tried a reinstall and restarted my iPad, but it still crashes when I try to access Options. Sad...I was SO looking forward to playing Cosmic Avenger (or "Cavenger" in ROM-speak!)
it requires a version of the rom with an eeprom file in it. for example for dodonpachi it needs 'eeprom-dodonpach.bin' in the zip. google can help there. good luck.
Options doesn't work for me. Instead I add new games, then close the app properly (click in the x when I've touched the icon for a few seconds) then restart imame and the new games appear. That's how I update my list
you've done a man's job, sir. you and jim have made many a happy christmas for ios users thank you and happy holidays.
