And this is why I'm glad that I listen to rock/metal. There's no issue with having to deal with the tons of "radio crap" (as I have labeled it). It's either it appeals to you or not, there's not much terrible music out there. To add to that, there's some really great, original bands, and there's alot of room to be explored. Check out the album Colors by Between the Buried and Me. Most original awesomeness you'll hear in a long time. Best album since Waking the Fallen for me.
U2 is teen pop music? Since... when? Green Day is fantastic, Dookie and American Idiot were great, 21st Century Breakdown was crap. But yeah, we teen love 'em. Pearl Jam... eh. Bon Jovi?! Linkin Park, ridiculously true, The Fray, not so much, more like middle-aged women. Train... who are they? Shinedown... again, middle-aged folk and old knitting women that like the "pleasant music by that young'un, Foo Fighters is a legit band, Kings of Leon... I could "use somebody" from time to time Sure, pop music for the most part sucks, but there's something spiritual when a group of friends/a sports team/random people just start singing along to catchy song everyone knows. And if you really wanna find good music, you just gotta search places besides the radio and Billboard Top 100. Billy Talent is amazing, and they're modern.
Finnaly people who understand me! These days music is just someone singing using a machine covering all his/her mistakes. Then follow that with stupid techno crap to cover up more singing mistakes. And don't get me started on lyrics.
I don't like Eminem. His only good music was back in the 90s. Its all about Andre Nickatina and if you want to listen to some f**ked up shit..Immortal Technique [particularly Dance With The Devil]
I was once like you, frustrated and angry at the MTV scene, constantly changing and getting worse and worse. I remember when people said Cash Money was going to be the death of hip hop...Well, they were wrong. No one could have foreseen the absolute garbage of MIMS or Soulja Boy. And sadly, it really does just seem to be getting even worse than that. But you have to realize something, and several people have pointed this out: There has always been crappy music. And there always will be. Today it just seems worse because people have more access to record their crappy poetry with, and the industry is more concerned with putting out a pretty face than people with genuine music talent. So I went through my final High School years listening to bands and musicians liek Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Neil Young, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Talking Heads, etc etc, the established greats that will continue to stand the test of time. And I was happy, until one day, someone pointed out just how little I knew about any music out there. It was kind of a wake up call, and I'm ashamed to admit that I was one of the people who at one point generally considered the garbage on MTV to be pretty much as good as it gets (which is sad). Well, there's a little thing called indie/underground/pompous-ass music, and for as many crappy bands there are out there, there is a plethora of good musicians gliding under the radar, be it because they are not attractive, their music doesn't fit into a convenient radio format, or honestly, they're just "too much" for the mainstream listener (a lot of people seem content with a bass line and drum beat they can dance to, regardless of how pathetically lame it is). So to remedy my ignorance, I started scouring the internet, from things like Pitchfork (Yes, they are pompous asses, but they do have lots of music they talk about), to Amazon recommendations, to some independent blogs. And now, I generally consider myself a well informed music listener! It does just make me sad though, that a lot of people think that MTV is the best it is. I remember one of my roommates was talking to me about music (see above: lame hip hop music fan) asking me if I liked Bow Wow, or T-Pain, expressing surprise that I didn't like the "hitmakers". I just shook my head and shed a tear at his ignorance. To make it worse......He had no idea who Wu-Tang was. Just sad. On a side note, independent music does have a crappy stigma of being associated with emo kids, which is unfortunate.
I was just listening to Arcade Fire, then I put on Tool's 10,000 days, well I guess it's not all crap out there but you really have to research hard. It's gonna be 2010 soon, a new decade, a new sound? Sure hope so, I wonder what's next? Techno country? Classical rap? It can't get worse right?
Thats the biggest piece of shit ever, they don't stay underground out of choice unless they are weird. Any band will try to do what they can to get their name round, not just for the money or fame, but so people hear their music. I'm not saying that all underground music is bad, but there is a reason it is underground. +Wutang = amazing
I'm sick of crappy music. Ah, but Cotton Eye Joe eases the pain. I was just listening to Right Said Fred, then I put on Eifel 65's Europop, well I guess it's not all crap out there but you really have to research hard.
Agreed man. Most of the bands I like were better before they got any sort of popularity. Another thing to do is to listen to the band's earlier work. Usually sounds much better. For example, the older A7X albums (Waking the Fallen, Avenged Sevenfold, etc.) sound amazing. When they became popular and released albums like City of Evil, the whole sound of things went down in quality. Most people don't even know of Waking the Fallen or their self titled album. Underoath too, their middle stuff (as I'll title it. Not old and not new) sounded amazing. I like all songs by them, but They're Only Chasing Safety and Define the Great Line have yet to be surpassed by them. As you said though, little known bands are the best. If I asked most people in my school about them, I'm guessing that about 5 people would know about them. Like I said before, listen to Colors. One of the greatest musical experiences I've ever had. On the other hand, there are some great mainstream and somewhat mainstream bands. I'd say that Killswitch has gone mainstream and has gained a large amount of popularity. Then again, same story there too, their new album pales in comparison to As Daylight Dies. I'd say Dethklok has become quite popular, due in part to the AWESOME show Metalocalypse. Nonetheless, I still love the music. Many people were introduced to the music through the show, as the band always plays a song at the end of the show. One of my favorite shows too.
They're underground because they aren't "marketable", they aren't good looking enough, they don't have the right dance moves etc...
It's gonna be classical screamo. It's going to be like that singing you hear during movies and stuff, but instead everyone will be screaming. It'll be quite awkward, I'm sure of it. Other random things that could happen. -Sound effects tracks. Rap songs are already working on that, some of the stuff I've heard (unwillingly) is just sound effects. -People talking but with no beat behind them. And about nothing good either. -Midi files. -Big band country. I can picture it now: The Topeka Pops. lol -Techno metal. Hey, it could happen. -Pure silence recorded and sold. Yeah, theres alot of possible weirdness. In case you do want to hear an awesome classical/movie bgm with great guitaring in it, here you go. You may have heard this one if youre a final fantasy fan.
