Is anyone having problems running this game from the Cydia version of it? I was thinking of jailbreaking again for the purpose of getting this app, but I wanted to make sure it really is the same one as the one that was on the App Store.
i have both, the latest beta looks the same as the appstore version to me. also jailbreaking allows you to run in core=dynamic which is a bit faster. theres an official dospad forum you can google that has loads of info
Oh man, BBS on iPad, that rules thewiirocks! BBS days..good times. "Antique Futures" (it's the name of a scifi short story collection by Terry Dowling.. sounds cool though ) What is this BBS software.. or did you make it yourself? (sorry if you mentioned it already in the thread, i couldn't see it) [edit: Ah, just saw that you did make it. Nice one! Though I'm curious, how come you're making your own BBS software when there are heaps already in existence, some which are quite modern w/ telnet support etc. Just because it's fun? Anyway..awesome.] [edit #2: anyone remember Ice Zmodem? it let you play a game of tetris or chat to the sysop at the same time as downloading a file. Cool and futuristic or what.]
Here is a few more Freeware Games to add to your collection. Jet Pack and GOT (God of Thunder) very fun puzzle/rpg game with a story..lol.... http://www.adeptsoftware.com/classics/ ;
thewiirocks' new server welcome screen looks cool but I have a minor graphics distortion (black bar) on iPad. Otherwise it works perfect. TONS of games in the meanwhile!
Epic Pinball works perfect here on iPhone 4 and iPad as well. Full stereo sound and detailled graphics, maybe skips one frame once in thirty seconds. Impressive for such a fast game with table view scrolling. Absolute playable, my favorite game now on iPhone and iPad! Detailled instructions for download, installation and sound configuration, no other tweaks necessary (original dospad.cfg): http://forums.toucharcade.com/showpost.php?p=1380796&postcount=661
Oooooo... I like that one! Couple of reasons. The first is that BBS software has modernized to Telnet. (Which means a Unix basis instead of DOS.) I ran into some interesting incompatibilities right off the bat. Stupid stuff like the client sending carriage returns instead of linefeeds. In trying to connect to the internet BBSes I actually thought that keyboard output wasn't working! I could have used a DOS-based BBS using DOSBox, but that creates some interesting limitations. Since the modems are emulated as if they were "real" modems, only one person would be able to connect at a time. I could setup up to four modems in DOSBox, but each one would have a different port. War-dialing all of a BBS's numbers was "fun" back in the day, but really doesn't cut it in the internet age. Also, modern tools and methodologies make it stupidly easy to implement a BBS. Stuff that used to take *months* of development can now be done in hours. The worst part so far was getting XModem working. (Pretty fiddly stuff even back in the day. Worst yet, the documentation is crud. Pre-internet days. Yay.) Even then, I was frustrated that it took 4-6 hours to get worked out. Not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things. (Speaking of XModem, I notice errors that suggest people are trying to download using some other protocol. Make sure you select "XModem" from the download menu! It must be pure XModem. Not XModem-1K, not XModem-CRC, not YModem, and definitely not ZModem. Only XModem will work.) Finally, I wanted to leave the door open to custom client software. QModem at 115K is reasonably fast doing an XModem transfer, but it seems like a simpler protocol for downloads that doesn't worry about packeting, error correction, and memory so much would be a lot faster. (Remember when line noise used to screw up the data in your downloads? Not really a problem over TCP/IP.) Since DOSBox has an ANSI driver built-in, it seems like it should be easy to write a purpose-built client. In my old favorite Turbo C, no less! Thanks for the tip! I'll grab those pronto! Sorry 'bout that. I haven't finished upgrading the software. So while the main menu and chat look pretty spiffy now, the download menus are still a bit 'eh'. Should be fixed tonight or tomorrow.
Ahh right. I find this stuff really interesting.. I ran a BBS on my parents' phone line as a kid and was always messing around with different BBS softwares and such. The one I ended up sticking with until the end was Synchronet. I always wanted to have a go at coding one (my weapon of choice was Turbo Pascal back then ) but never got that far... Would love to have a look at your source code! Though I doubt I'll do anything with it, but just out of interest.
Absolutely! Check back on the site tonight. I'll make sure the source code is available. You'll be able to download it from the BBS then pull it to your desktop next time you sync your device. I think you'll be surprised at how little source there actually is. Just a quick note: The system uses Maven 2 as its build system. If you're not familiar with Maven 2, try downloading Netbeans and open it as a pre-made project. Netbeans will suck it in and do everything for you automagically. On a different note, I came up with another option for a name. Who likes Steampunk Citadel?
Restoring iDOS This is driving me mental.. I can't restore iDOS to my device. I've tried restoring it to a brand new device too but I keep getting the attached message. I've tried all the usual suggestions that turn up via Google search but none have worked. Did Apple finally use the kill switch on this app? What really makes me crazy is the thought that I'll never be able to run the app again if I reset my phone, even though I've paid for it
I'm not seeing how that's the case. But I have to ask: Is your sig for real? 'Cos it's utterly false.
I don't know what your problem is but the blacklist is still empty so the kill switch has not yet been invoked.
TES: Daggerfall may be able to run on DOS, but it runs painfully slowly. It just isn't very practical to play an action game at a frame rate of 1/4.
