actually izzy I have played TONS of dos games, but really it was much simpler for me back then, I insert floppy or 3.5, and loaded most games that way. I don't think I ever had to unzip stuff in DOS when I was younger, but just because we weren't pros back then doesn't mean we can't enjoy it now. In fact messing about in the emulator brings back some really fond memories. But why your bashing people that can't operate DOS is beyond me. It's not easy even for a 26 yo like myself who used DOS for quite a few years. I will not say I know DOS in and out but I have played a lot of the classics and still enjoy them so for you to be so brash against people asking questions is really uncalled for IMO. Just ignore those posts, but I'm tired of people getting stupid with the whole "Wow you don't know DOS?!" "If you don't know DOS then you shouldn't even try and play the games" schtick. I'm glad you were a computer nerd back in the day and know DOS like bill gates but just because we ask questions does not make you superior to anyone, in fact your attitude goes to show your true colors. I'm taking what tiny little bit of info I do know (which is very little, but I'm sure you think I'm a retard and don't deserve DOS gaming, because it's reserved for elitist Dbags) and trying to help these newbies by putting it into understandable terms. So if your not going to be helping at all why don't you just ignore the posts?
Don't give up so easily. You should be able to mount the disk image. z: imgmount d c:/dott.iso -t ios
my computer keeps auto unzipping the files. anyone know if i can put the folder on my phone or how to stop it from unzipping?
Wow, you sure seem angry. Sorry I guess? I'm just saying, I don't understand why someone who clearly doesn't know the basic operations of the system (I wasn't even talking about you, by the way) downloaded iDOS. I'm assuming anyone who doesn't know something as simple as getting into directories in DOS is probably too young to have played the old games. Let put this into other terms: imagine a 14 year old kid seeing an Atari 2600 at a garage sale. He buys it right away (being obviously too young to have played any of those games) then goes around asking things like "so how do I turn it on?" or "how do I put the games in?" I'd ask him the same thing. "You clearly never used this before, why did you buy it, exactly...?" I got nothing against you teaching the newbs - knowledge is always useful. I'm just saying, I don't get why DOS-illiterate folks bothered buying it. No need to freak out, buddy. Friends?
So, managed to get my copy of 95 imaged and installed which makes me very happy. Now I just want to know if anyone has been able to get an internet connection going. Something tells me this is impossible but gotta ask. If I did get it going, it would blow my mind because 3g is ludicrously faster than the connection I had back when 95 was my main OS.
Sorry I did go a little far maybe, of course friends! I just hate when people know more then me about something and kinda put it in my face ya'know? I'm struggling big time remembering this stuff and I can only imagine what people who have never seen dos must be thinking! I think it's great that kids want to see what the older games used to be like... "To know where we're headed we have to know where we've been" type of thing. I say good on them for taking an interest in gaming history, it's the same as any other history...
That would be funny indeed. I am tempted to load AOL 1.0 in iDos and see if my old screen name works.
iDOS is way to slow on my iPhone 3G to do anything Windows related so I haven't bothered digging too deep. But wouldn't it be funny if we had to resort to Windows 95 to get flash on the iPhone?
DiskExplorer works very well in adding files, but unfortunately I haven't been able to install anything yet. I keep getting kernel 32 errors I am reminded of how much I hated windows 9X. I think I'll do your dual boot - at least with win 3.1 I'm able to play some games.
I believe I played some DOS games.... Is Prince of Persia (original) one? There was another I heavily remember but can't get the name of.... Some adventure point and click that looked like a western?? Had some commands but I played at too young an age to remember. Argh, the memories but no names >.< DOS, DOS.... I'll go find out a name. EDIT: Got some! Duke Nukem 3D Secret of MI MI2 Back to the Future (Anyone got pic of gameplay?) Day of Tentacle Something that took 10 minutes to load.... Hugo 3
Boooo, I can't get mouse to work in 95 : ( That makes me a saaaad panda. Edit: Ha! I vaguely remembered that 95 on install didn't have mouse drivers installed and it required and in OS shutdown and restart. Sure enough, now it works! Gotta figure out how to change cycles for idos though. Screens make it look easy with the ipad but it's not in options for my iPhone4 install...
You are probably talking about Full Throttle. The early areas of the do make it look like a Western (even though it takes place in the future). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_Throttle_(1995_video_game) Also, the original Prince of Persia is available in the AppStore for 99 cents, so might as well get that.
I don't think you're being fair to people here. For example, I'm a computer science grad student who grew up playing computer games in the early 90s. I'm pretty excited at the prospects of: 1) Playing old games 2) Tinkering around with an os emulator on my iphone That said, I grew up on a mac. I've done almost nothing in dos (some linux, though), and I only know a few of the most basic commands. Is it unreasonable for me (or someone else) to ask for some general info on how to get this whole thing running? Obviously it gets annoying when people keep asking the same questions, but I don't think the elitism is necessary.
There is. You have to look for a No CD patch online. There's one out there for most disc-based DOS games. I'd like to know how they perform on iDOS compared to their text counterparts.
I don't think it's hard to work out is it? I'm too young to have had it first time round.it's sounds interesting, I would like to play with it a little. I hope that's ok with you? Oh yeh it was cheap and had good reviews.
