There is no need to have all those files in the main directory. Example Epic Pinball, I got the shareware file (one table "Android" fully playable; it's the best of all Epic tables) from here onto my Mac (Snow Leopard). http://www.dosgamesarchive.com/download/epic-pinball/ (scroll down for "Download") Download & Install The download brings you a directory called pinball in your "Downloads" folder on Mac (because OS X unzips automatically). Right click the file and compress ("Create Archive") again. You'll get a pinball.zip (883 KB) in the folder where you compressed. Copy that pinball.zip via iTunes/filesharing/USB to iPad/iDOS. Take care that the filename (except the extension after the dot) has max. eight characters and doesn't mix upper and lower case letters. With this game Epic Pinball is all okay by default (you don't need to change file name) but other games won't do so maybe. Again: Not pinball.ZIP, not PINBALL.zip, not PinBall.zip, not Pinball.zip—change that on Mac or PC before you upload to iDOS otherwise DOS commands won't work ("can't find file"). In iDOS enter C:\>unzip pinball.zip the file will be unpacked and a new directory will be created fully automatic (called pinball), then enter C:\>cd pinball and—to play—C:\PINBALL>pinball always followed by the virtual Return key. That's it! You may delete pinball.zip later. Done. In fullscreen mode (the virtual PC on/off switch on iPad) maybe change the mapping of the virtual key pad in iDOS options (the gearwheel symbol). Portrait mode is fine on iPad. Epic Pinball runs first class and rock solid. Perfect physics. It was one of the first games I bought in my PC days and it's the same enjoyable experience on iPad. Promised! Sound Tried the minimalistic sound (PC speaker; =default setting) and it works, love that twittering sound. It's minimalistic ART to tweak that out of such a tiny (here: virtual) speaker. But you can have full blown stereo fx and music under iDOS: "Soundblaster 16 Stereo High Quality" (you can make changes in setup.exe inside pinball directory). It's REAL stereo—I tested with headphones; but you have to switch down cycles with CTRL + F11 (when game runs; F12 will count up) under 2000 cycles for clear sound (look at the virtual green LED display). Use these soundcard settings if you should be asked by some setup file (valid for ALL games running in iDOS under pure DOS like here or even under Win3.x; in Epic Pinball you can accept default settings): Base I/O Address: 220 MIDI Port Address: 330 Interrupt Setting (IRQ): 7 Low (or only) DMA: 1 High DMA: 5 The above according to http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=9405 (scroll down to "To install the Soundblaster driver…"; you need that for Windows 3.x if you want sound on your iPad or iPhone). Inside the game Save local highscores (there will be a dialog after ball #5). Skip screens with ESC. Choose options with Up, Down and RETURN keys. Launch ball with SPACE key. Left/right flippers trigger with both SHIFT keys. Pause with P. Read the rules @ main menu, browse the other Epic Pinball options (number of balls p.e.). SKILL SHOT! Hope that helps. Don't hesitate to ask if anything won't work for you. Enjoy that pretty pinball table! I installed iDOS on iPad and downloaded in iTunes/Mac when it was available in App Store. Later I connected iPhone 4 and pulled it successfully from iTunes at a time when it was not available any more in App Store. Touchmouse In the same manner as in non-fullscreen-mode. Example: Solitaire game (built-in Windows 3.x). Direct the mouse cursor on a card. Tap and hold with one finger ("1/2 tap") until the green fingerprint shows up under your fingertip. Drag with another finger. Let them go when you are there where you want with the card. Right-click with the R-key at the right side of the screen or with a two fingers tap. That's the iDOS mouse way and it's not the worst solution imho.
BEST DAY EVER!!! WING COMMANDER 2!!! WORKS PERFECTLY CORE=normal 1700 cycles almost perfect speed use the mouse function to aim, and space to shoot ITS AWESOME! just finished first mission, sound works, but the speech is kinda screwed NEXT IS PRIVATEER!
Out of curiosity, since file sharing is possible between apps (at least so I've been told) is it possible to download a file in, say, iCab and save it to iDOS's sandbox?
Can we get a file manager (such as Norton Commander) running on this? Would make things SO MUCH easier...
that Dos Navigator appliaction works perfectly, see the post on page 20 and just google it. just tried it. makes things much easier.
crud, i suppose you should be able to just create a batch file, call it D.BAT and inside it have the same command as above, dump it into the root folder, and then just type D at the command prompt when idos starts and hit enter. still quick.
actually get rid of the [...] part for the batch file. or add the below to your cfg file (thanks to a previous poster) [autoexec] set path=c:\dn; (this assumes you extracted the files to a folder named 'dn' of course. that way you only need to type 'dn' at the prompt and it'll know to look for it there.
Or you can do this -- Code: [autoexec] C:\DN\DN.COM If you have Dos Navigator in a folder called 'dn', it'll start automatically when you start iDOS. Finally figured it out.
