Yeah, I'm having this same problem myself. Is it unique to iDOS 2? Or something to do with my phone? (Unjailbroken iPhone 4)
Problem with iPhone Explorer I have a problem with iPhone Explorer, I am unable to drag-and-drop files. Sometimes I'm also unable to access the folders, a message says "there is no such directory" or similar, but my main problem is the drag-and-drop issue. Whenever I try to drag-and-drop files into iPhone Explorer my cursor turns into a "forbidden"-sign. I have no problems dragging files FROM my iPhone folders to my computer. I run the program as an administrator and iTunes is closed. My specs are: Windows 7 Iphone 3Gs IOS 4.1 Itunes 10.1.1.4 Oh, and I mailed Macroplant about it but they couldn't help me but pointed out that an update to iPhone Explorer is in the works so maybe that will sort things out for me. Has anybody had the same problem and solved it? Sorry about my bad english, swedish guy here.
Your English is fine man, and this is coming from someone who's an English-as-a-second-language teacher by trade. I can't help you with the other problem (other than say are you in the Directories folder within the idos folder?), but that first error seems to happen to a lot of people, me included. Seems a lot less likely to happen if I start up iPhone Explorer first, then connect my phone (having turned off iTunes' automatic startup option).
Thanks for the response and it's nice to hear my english isn't too mangled. Yes, I'm in the "directories" folder within the iDOS folder. The strange thing is that I have no problem creating a new folder, for example under the "games" folder, but adding files is a no-no. Too bad, I was looking forward to installing some rpg classics. EDIT: Solved it. Rebooted my iPhone and now it works. Do I feel stupid...
Someone asked about running Dungeon Keeper (1997), which falls into that post 91 and actually post win95 era. I got it to run, but its not playable in iDOS. Some posts from me in the second iDOS thread that may help people: ==================================================== Please realize that while many DOS games will work, most of the later DOS games, from 1991 and up will likely will run slow. People seem to not realize that 'DOS' is not monolithic in nature. If I say 'Super Nintendo' and make an emulator for it, well......All Super Nintendo machines were made to run the same speed and run the same software. Though different games pushed that hardware differently, once I get an emulator that runs the base hardware pretty well, its done. DOS, otoh, started as an 8088 4.77 MHZ processor, with at most 640K of RAM, with monochrome or Hercules or CGA graphics or EGA and VGA; and when Win 95 came out, we had 486 DX3 75 and other processors, including the Pentium, with Lots more RAM (Lets not get into high memory, extended memory, expanded memory, LIMM memory please)......and all this over a period of almost 15 years.... So with this huge variety of processors and capabilities came a wide range of games, most of which run great on DOSBox. If your game of choice runs too slow, well, you can tweak the settings, or turn of sound, or buy a faster processor version of your iDevice of choice. 1991ish is not a rule or anything, just a guide. There are plenty of games after this that run just great, Civ 1 for example. ============================================ To get a game running in iDOS: 1) Get DOSBox. Get game. 2) Make a directory and put all the game files inside it. I would use only 8 char folder names that follow dos name specifications, ex 'wingcom1' for Wing Commander 1. You better make it all lower case, too, as iDOS is not really case-insensitive as it should be. 3) Get game running in DOSbox. Set up sound as soundblaster pro, and If you cant get it running here, you might as well quit now. 4) Create a zip, like wingcom1.zip, and do this by right clicking the wingcom1 folder and zipping it (including the folder name in the zip.) Use Winrar if you wish, but make sure you create archive as a zip. MAKE SURE you created the directory in step 2 as lower case no spaces that follows the dos 8.3 naming conventions. 5) Drop it into the Documents folder of iDOS, with iPhone Explorer. 6) Run iDOS, then drop to the command prompt. Then type the following command: 7) unzip wingcom1.zip 8) Now that its unzipped, you'll have a directory called wingcom1 off of the root, IE c:\wingcom1. Use DN to move it to your games folder or wherever you keep em, or leave it in the root, up to you. 9) To run it, change to the wingcom1 directory and run the same batch or exe you did in step 3. If you don't know how to change directories etc, how did you get past step 3? Good luck, and there are TONS of great games just waiting for you to resurrect them and play them. Just realize the limitations of DOSbox and the iDevices, and dont expect to run Strike Commander and have it do anything except give you a slideshow. Feel free to ask if you need help, I've installed and tested 100s of dos games in iDOS on my 3rd gen Ipod Touch. Rixx EDIT: Just because it runs in DOSBox, it still may not run in iDOS. OTOH if it Wont Run in DOSBox.....No reason to even try in iDOS.
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showpost.php?p=1382388&postcount=839 I started a toucharcade noob guide, I'm done working on it (too lazy/busy), but if someone wants to pick up where I left off would be awesome!
You need to change one line in your win.bat file to look like this. imgmount d c:\w95.img -size 512,63,16,502 The last part "-size 512,63,16,502" is the part you add. This is what its looking for so it can extract drive geometry from image. Hope it works for you.
This is EXACTLY what was needed, thank you so much! I don't know why I'm so happy to be able to run something that is pretty much useless...but I am!
Hi there I just tried Lands of lore throne of chaos the floppy version and I get illegal command when I try to run any exe... What am I doing wrong?
Problem solved; had to change permissions for every file using Filza or iFile. Game works perfectly, as well as the cd version. I can finally get my dungeon action on the go now hell yeah!
Gold Box Games Hi all, I was wondering if anyone got the Gold Box AD&D games running on idos 2? I got them to work, but saving characters after creating them brings on an error message. Any tips? Thanks.
Did you get them from GOG or elsewhere? Sometimes the GOG versions have been tweaked to run on modern machines. What's the error you saw, and was it in DOS, the game, or the app?
They came from an abandon ware site, and the error was in the game itself (3hali I believe). I think it has something to do with the way the games save files, but I'm unsure. I got the error when I rolled a character and tried to save it to add to my party. Thanks for the reply!
hi is there any way to play dos cd games in idos? can you please help me is multi cd games work in idos? when I want to run dos cd games like lighthouse the dark being idos cant find cd to run the game.
I think file sharing was turned off. Also, do the later games (92-97 era) work better with the newer devices?
