iDesk is a super slick multitasking information desktop that provides vital information of your choice and an easily readable large clock while your iPad is docked. THIS IS A MUST HAVE FOR ALL IPAD OWNERS!!! Browse 4 websites at a time on the same screen! At the press of a button zoom one of the 4 information panels to full screen and back. Turn your iPad into a beautiful and useful command center. See the weather, Facebook and Twitter updates, latest news from a variety of sources, slideshows from Flickr, Youtube, Google, and more. Simply enter any URL that is formatted for iPhone from the home screen on each of the 4 windows. Once configured, iDesk will remember what you were viewing the next time you start the application. App info is currently processing and/or the app is not yet fully available for sale on the US App Store.
I received a call from Apple and this app has been removed! The only explanation given was they didn't want this kind of interface on the iPad. I guess I will be the only one multitasking with it until they come up with something on their own. I don't really understand because I think this kind of app would be useful to have running while the iPad is charging at the dock by your bed.
This looks really cool. You could always get some "beta testers" to try it out... Of course, none of us have a UDID yet...
Apple is probably developing their own version of something similar to this app or something of that sort..Or they just don't like you?
I see... Thanks guys. Too bad I wasted a couple of weeks developing this app. It was my only iPad launch app and now I have nothing... Getting to work on iFishing HD instead http://www.9to5mac.com/dashboard-apps-removed-apple-app-store-350396
This is really going too far now. I can understand them wanting to maintain some degree of control over their OS (and protect themselves from legal trouble) by using a closed system, but this is blatant abuse of power. They've even admitting the the app didn't break any rules, yet they still removed it. A few developers really need to get together and sue the ****ing shit out of them under anticompetition laws. Microsoft couldn't get away with it in the mid-90s, it's about ****ing time we reminded OS manufacturers that they have no right to pull this kind of bullshit on people. The law hasn't changed over the last 10 years, so throw the book at them.
From what I'm reading on Apple's forums, it looks like the iPad launch is going pretty damned poorly so far. So far it seems they have at least one defective batch of wi-fi chips, tons of issues with the new syncing system, compatibility problems with iWork file formats, and even more incompatible accessories than anyone expected. Frankly I don't think they're really in a position to be dictating what customers can't do with their iPad, considering they haven't even yet got it to a point where they can guarantee the things those customers can do.
Sounds a very anti-competitive move like someone already pointed out. RPGguy, can't you email Steve Jobs directly and ask him to work out some deal to get your app re-listed?
I could try but since there are other apps with similar functionality removed I doubt they would change their mind. Mine was meant to display information from different sources on the same screen and not a full windowing system with movable windows though. Seemed like a very simple idea that was shut down maybe because of some future plan for multitasking that only Apple knows about. Still they ruined my chance of making any money from the iPad launch. I cannot release any iPad versions of my games until I can test them out on a real device for performance testing and since I'm in Canada that will be later in the month at best.
That really sucks. Everyone has to wait for apple to release some functionality before trying to make something that looks like it. They should add that to their contract clauses. "You cannot make any feature that we haven't thought of or included yet ourselves." Stupid.
If I were you, I'd try to make contact with the other developers who've fallen victim to this nazi strategy of theirs, hire a lawyer, and see how far you can take this. It may not seem like much, but a first step like this can make a very big difference indeed - just imagine the mess we'd all been in if no one had taken a stand against Microsoft all those years ago.
