I have been enjoying Plasma Sky a lot and now I want to try a shmup with iCade support. Any recommendations? It should run on an iPad 1 and not be too complicated. I like nice graphics.
Personally I'd go for Super Ox Wars (or any other Minter title) but if you like nice graphics you may be better with Super Crossfire HD. The Metal Slug series and Raiden ports by dot.emu are also phenomenal ports of old Arcade Classics. Plasma Sky would work very well with iCade. Great game.
Thanks slamraman, Andy and Lost_Deputy! Super Crossfire looks very nice. I see what looks like consumable IAP though. What is that for? I actually already had that in my iCade folder but totally forgot about it Thanks for reminding me [edit] I wish it had autofire though It's a great game, but I'm not old-skool enough to love continually pressing those loud buttons. Yeah, that's really cool. I always shied away from them because they seemed too complicated. DU2 looks beautiful, but like slamraman said, the lite version didn't work on my iPad 1. Shogun and Warblade have lite versions, so I'll definitely check them out.
@lena You're welcome. It's unfortunate that the game doesn't have autofire. How about... AirAttack HD.
I got the Plasma Sky developer to buy an icade core! So he maybe implementing icade support hopefully sometime in the future. As for shmups Danmaku 2 Phoenix hd Blazing star (surprised no mentions, GREAT Hdmi tv game) Raiden Legacy Super crossfire hd Stormstrikers Space inversion 2 hd Neoteria Air attack hd Velocispider Super ox wars Warblade hd Bsquadron Shogun Invasion Strike Kinda in order. Honorable mentions to Metal slug x, tabletop racing, mikey shorts, kung fu rabbit, terra noctis, skyriders, paper monsters, gunman clive, ice rage, vertex blaster, dont run with a plasma lightsaber, pix n rush, dynamite jack, goatup 1&2, frogger decades, and Muffin Knight. These are not shmups though... Blazing star works great in hdmi tv and icade.
I just posted this in the The Other Brothers thread but I thought I'd drop it here too. They want to add iCade support, but don't have an iCade. I've seen multiple devs have the same problem (see Connectors post right above). While buying an iCade is probably the best solution, Kode80 released this http://kode80.com/osx-apps/simul80/ a while back (somewhere I'm this thread, too lazy to find it). It emulates the iCade through your computer. This could work great for devs, and people who just don't have enough money for an iCade, to try it out.
Yeah, got a lot of interest in icade from developers and users alike, but trying to beta test some of these icade integrations hasn't been going well. It's probably almost mandatory for the developer to actually have an icade, cause it is hard to test and make code changes and test again, often with nothing happening. I supppose ion doesn't have a developers forum for icade do they?
I doubt it. Yeah, I tryed the Simul80 before I got my iCade(s) and it worked pretty well. It's good because they use it to get rough testing in, and kind of get a feel for it, and then they can send out a beta to those who have a real iCade to make sure it still works okay.
This thread is really pumping! Used to be days between posts sometimes unless a new game came out. I think the iCade core's availability, reduced price and flexibility of use has really helped people get on board with iCade lately.
Yeah, go icade core! Anyone have a 60 beat controller? http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=183262&page=3 Looks pretty interesting, they seem like they are starting to get some game support, so curious to see if it is worth it yet to buy. Right now have a Gameloft duo gamer joystick too, so kinda don't want to have too many joysticks, but since I play primarily on hdmi tv, this 60 beat joystick looks kinda cool.
My wife bought me one of the 60beat ones round a year ago now. It's a good controller which I hardly use. It's not bluetooth and plugs into thr headphone socket via a headphone splitter. Rather than headphones I normally send the sound to a set of speakers. I think this may make the sound mono but I'm not 100% sure on this. Controller works great - fantastic even. More ergonomic than the Discover Bay Gameloft one (which crazily my wife got me at Christmas time) but there's not too much game support. Around 20 games compared to the iCades 100+ games. It would be phenomenal for twin stick shooters and I see Annihilate released yesterday supports it so I'll give that a crack next week when I get some time. Anyhow - it is a good controller but it just never caught on and I think it may be too late too which is a shame but it was far too expensive for what it was I thought. If they opened the Gameloft one out then it could be a real bobby dazzler despite it's squareness.
Thanks--somehow I missed Skyriders (which I already own) and Frogger Decades (which tempts me but seems to lack iPad retina support? 3D polygons without retina will bother me on my next iPad, I know it.) Air Attack looks (by appearance) like it might be the best vertical shooter--but I haven't tried it yet, so my vertical award goes to Super Ox Wars. Blazing Star is my favorite horizontal. (I wonder if the iPhone-only version of Air Attack supports iCade? Probably not--it's only mentioned in the iPad version's description.)
Can't remember if I mentioned this but Retro Racing currently free. Has a micro machines feel. Simple game, but very slick. http://appshopper.com/games/retro-racing
Skyriders mentioned above is awesome. Scifi, polygon based racing game where the challenge is to make it to end of course. I could not stop playing this game. Lots of boost panels and spectacular jumps.
Retro Racing is awesome. TIP: I found it impossible to control (mental block!) until I used the stick only for steering. There's a button for accelerate, which worked MUCH better than pressing the stick up. (Because the controls are car-relative, not screen-relative, and it threw me.)
Frogger decades is not retina, but pretty good. I have attached a screenshot for you. I kinda like the game. Only frogger like game I got on my icade, maybe gameplay could be a little faster, but game is pretty good. I would recommend it. Air attack hd is quite good on icade. Worth the buy, but it is not close to the best icade vertical shooter. I would way Phoenix hd and Danmaku 2 are the best. Tied for second is Raiden Legacy and storm strikers. Warblade, super ox wars, and air attack get honorable mentions. Landscape shooters, would say blazing star and supercrossfire hd are tied for first. Space inversion 2 is really good. Must haves are Metal slug x and tabletop racing. Just awesome. @adams immersive Air attack iphone has a lite version, try icade on that. If you can't I can load it on my iphone to see if icade will work.
