Aemus Oldies (the dos) emulator I download that to play the Donkey Kong clone with iCade, but it is still shareware, any work if it will go full version?
Cool—and for others searching, it’s spelled Aemula (both iPhone and iPad versions are free, apparently—ad-supported with IAP for ad-free).
Anyone getting iCade to work in Dingo, or ZX Spectaculator? How about iDOS or Aemula? I cant seem to get any iCade response out of any of those old emulators, in either portrait or landscape. (iMame and C64 being the exception! They work.) I see the switch in the apps settings for iCade mode, but enabling it doesnt seem to do anything. TIA
I havent tried Aemula, the last update said icade controls so i need to test that out. Spectaculator has been fine for me, i've added tons of games to it as well and it works very well. Think you have to play the games using Kempston for the icade controls to work (As thats the default in Spectaculator)
Yep, on spectaculator you always have to choose Sinclair (or Kempston I can't remember now) and it should work a treat. On Aemula, before you start each game there's a menu page with a cog. Just click on the cog and switch iCade on. They've mucked up on Prince of Persia where up is down and down is up, but apart from that they work a treat too.
The App Store will probably hit 25 billion downloads in the next 24 hours. If you score the 25 billionth download you get $10,000 store credit. If you were looking for that one last excuse to buy an iCade app, you're welcome Edit: And it's done.
Thanks! Aemula is working for me now. Maybe restarting the app did the trick. Spectaculator and Dingo do not work for me: I see that (some) games have a way to choose Kempston vs. Sinclair, and I try both, but the iCade is being received as random bluetooth keystrokes, not as a game controller. This is in Dingo and Gloop Troop specifically. (I dont see a way to choose Kempston in Alter Ego, but I did try Sinclair mode and no luck. Also no luck in Catch the Cash, but I doubt that supports iCade.) Are there steps I might be missing, since I never owned a Spectrum? I started with a borrowed VIC-20... TIA
Sounds like you've not turned "Use Arcade Controller" in the Settings App. Without this enabled, Spectaculator will treat the iCade as a bluetooth keyboard (which would explain your random bluetooth keystrokes). It doesn't make a difference whether or not the particular game uses a Kempston, Sinclair or any other joystick interface - the iCade's controls are mapped appropriately. Having said that, I've done away with the Settings App configuration for the next version and everything has been moved into the main app It's much more intuitive to setup now. It will also tell you if it doesn't detect the iCade for any reason: If you're still having trouble, drop me a message over at spectaculator.com and we can investigate further. Jon.
Mission 452 Mission 452, a retro-arcade style shoot-em-up has iCade support as of version 1.5. Mission 452
Apps Store Pac Man Pac Man just got a patch or update to play in portrait mode with the Arcade Grafix, looks sweet.
Thanks! Looks like youre making some great enhancements. I think I found the step I was missing: instead of doing Start Game from the games own menu (5 key, for Dingo), I had to press the bottom-left black button on the iCade to start the game. (As for Spectaculator, I think its simply that I have the Lite version, which lacks iCade support.) You mean landscape (horizontal)yes, thats working again! BTW, note that you cant change orientation mid-game. You have to do it while youre at the menu. P.S. I wish Pac-Man in portrait (vertical) mode would fill 100% of the screen with no margins or UI/joystick (at least when iCade is being used).
Pac Man update Yes in landscape, Can not believe I messed that up, Hopen soon Ms Pac Man gets the same upgrades with ICade support.
A few of the Spectaculator single titles are on sale. I noticed Dynamite Dan II, Rocky Horror Show and Starstrike II.
Come on fella, Phoenix is very very cheap, its quite common for a game to be 'free' but then theres an IAP to unlock it. Helps stop piracy as well. But leaving a 1/5 review for this reason is pathetic. Its a great shoot em up, dirt cheap, they made it icade compatible, you shouldnt leave silly reviews for 1/5 stars for this Darius isnt that expensive, we've all been spoilt by 69p games and everyone expects cheap games all the time. When you think of it even Darius is a great price for the quality you're getting. But giving Phoenix 1/5 stars, poor effort
P1XL Party supports iCade nownot iPad-native, but its fine doubled. (The games are all landscape, although the menus work in either direction.) http://appshopper.com/games/p1xl-party-retro-minigames I recommend this one! I havent tried their other game, RPG QuestMinimæ, but I see it has supported iCade for a month. (Also not iPad-native.) http://appshopper.com/games/rpg-quest-minimæ
