I just press the coin button and then 1 player start which on my icade is the top right red button and the black one next to it, respectably. Stargate was the sequel to Defender and is pretty similar if you can't get Defender going. Hope that helps.

My iCade arrived this very minute! Pretty huge package.

I see. It seems that there is something to do first:

Putting the parts together was EASY. The illustrated instructions on a large sheet are fine. I needed for unpacking, assembling (and bringing the package garbage to the recycle bin) 15 minutes. All tools (an Allen key) are shipped with the device. Sort of an "mini IKEA feeling" but all parts were complete. The whole thing is pretty heavy and stable.

You have to switch to US keyboard layout what's a bit annoying (as long as you are not US citizen) each time you want to use iCade. But all the bluetooth pairing worked well and quick here with iPad 2. The instructions are clearly translated into German and other languages.

Annoying is as well that you haven't access to the "normal" standard virtual keyboard any more when Bluetooth/iCade pairing is running. I am used to search my games and apps by name (with the iPad's search page left from the main springboard)—but without a keyboard this is a challenge. So: Activating iCade for iPad and launching/configuring a game/emulator needs one or two minutes but works rock stable.

Downloaded the 130 MB complete package of Atari games (needed 30 min what's unusual long for App Store) and tried a bit. Okay when you are used to the hyper sensitive virtual touchscreen controls since some years in gaming you'll have to learn again how to press real (and pretty sturdy) knobs and control a digital 8-way joystick (timed movement). Call it something like an additional challenge in the games. But I am getting better each try. The retro feeling is perfect and seems to be historically/technically correct (so you can use the iCade as some kind of accurate computer museum).

I have no direct comparison with the real ancient hardware consoles where the retro software run (except pinballs and the Marble Madness machine with trackballs—both control systems not natively supported by iCade). Don't know why exactly but I never played joystick games in arcade halls. So it's something like a new experience for me.

Tried some iMAME games and "Super Mega Worm". Works fine with iCade technically. Maybe there are some games where the real joystick works actually better than the virtual controls. I am not 100 % sure… "Mega Worm" could be a candidate. Please don't forget: I've got THAT used to the touchscreen.

Altogether it's great! Didn't even know before that it supports landscape orientation of the iPad. The iPad 2 is not mounted in any way—it just lays with it's weight in some kind of a frame. In landscape orientation there is a special indent/groove above the knobs where the iPad rests. As long as you don't move the iCade (okay—as said before—it's heavy enough) there is no danger that the iPad falls out of the iCade.

I've already downloaded that rom set and these are either the ones that wouldn't work for me or that I couldn't find there. It's more of a wish list than anything but thanks, any help appreciated.

There is a Dragon's Lair in the app store. You would do better to send an email to EA asking them to support the iCade than using MAME to pirate it. Space Ace too.

If I had any space on my iPad I'd grab Dragon's Lair for 99c right now and fire off an email to EA myself. Not that I was ever any good at it...

Is anyone else finding that they greatly prefer to play portrait mode games with their iPad in their iCade? I always cable mine up for charging and sync when I use my iCade, so rotating it is a bit of a pain. I wish all the iCade-compatible games ran in portrait mode, particularly Muffin Knight.

Yes. It's a lot better in my opinion. But some games can't be played in portrait (for example sideways racing, and muffin knight). It is possible to put those in portrait, but it wouldn't look too good.

I use the iCade too much myself, but I made two seperate icons for the Landscape and portrait, but I do wish they would put the side grafix of the games running in Landscape.

Pirating? Who said anything about pirating? I just wanna play games on my icade. BTW, I already have that app and find it controls poorly. I'd like to try it in imame, if that's ever possible. However, I'm quite happy with the amount of roms that are available for it. Like I said, it's just a wishlist. Perhaps there are others who would also like to see some of the games on my list become available.

Bought it but couldn't find an option "iCade". There are some "arcade controllers" to choose from (in the iPad's main settings - Spectaculator—a bit strange as well) but they ("Kempston" and "Cursor AGF or Protek") don't work with iCade. I know the app description says "iCade supported" but I couldn't get it to work. iCade is not mentioned in the help file.

I just got an iCade at Bed Bath & Beyond at the clearance price. They even accepted my 20% off coupon, so it was quite a bargain. What a great product, with solid construction it is and I hope it works well with the upcoming iPad model.

It makes a huge difference in some games. I have about a dozen compatible games already and I have tried all of them.

I expect I will be buying some games now just because they support it. I would love to hear people's favorite iCade compatible games where the joystick controls add the most value and fun.

The only one of my existing compatible game I had an issue with was Warblade HD. The iCade does nothing there for me and I have no idea why. I have posted a query in the Warblade HD thread, but perhaps someone here can help as well.

One of my favorite games supports it but is not listed at the top of this thread:

    MagMaze

MagMaze is a great game, but I prefer the using the touch screen swipe controls instead of using iCade for it.

I also purchased an iCade at BB&B today and for some reason I can't get it to work with Hypership Out of Control or The Blocks Cometh though they're listed as compatible on the first post. Any suggestions?

Games or app descriptions are not meant to mention the icade due to Apple being strict

On Spectaculator haven't you looked at the Help guide which mentions Arcade controller support and how to activate it? (obviously the icade)

Does AirAttack HD actually work with the iCade? Not having any luck.

    No luck with Pac-Man either.
