Anyone ever use this app? I actually bought a couple of books on it a few days ago as it was the fastest way for me to continue reading a series, while I usually use the app i2eader to read which is actually very good since it's last update and I highly recommend it especially if you use calibre and want to use it's content server to add books. Unfortunately the DRM on the books I bought from apple means I have to use iBooks to read them which I thought I would be able to tolerate but I'm having issues with it's bookmarking. It seems when I bookmark a page and then come back to it the bookmark has mysteriously moved about 30 pages ahead of where I made it and I have to manually backtrack looking for something I remember. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem really not that it's a huge issue just annoying but I don't think I'll be buying any more books from apple.
I almost exclusively read on my iPad now and really recommend the Kindle app over iBooks. iBooks is great if you've got some random .epub you want to read (you don't even need to sync, you can just email the file to yourself) but the iBooks DRM is just wacky. Comparatively, if you buy things via the Amazon Kindle store, you can read your purchases on seriously any device ranging from your computer to any smartphone to an actual Kindle... And it keeps your last-read locations synced up a heck of a lot better than iBooks. The Kindle App doesn't have the fancy page turning animation, but that's just fluff anyway. I also have randomly had issues with iBooks losing my position, although I think it -might- have something to do with iBooks attempting to sync my position with my Apple account.
Sounds probable it easily could be something to do with syncing as I did update a few apps on itunes earlier. I think there is a good chance I'll buy a kindle soon anyway, I guess I'll just have to tolerate iBooks until I've read the two I've bought I think my best bet is just write the page numbers down just in case. Thank's for replying.
I'm going to go one further and recommend the Kindle web app at http://read.amazon.com because it's just like the App Store app but it comes complete with the Kindle store link.
I've never really had any issues with iBooks - I've read about 10 books with it. But I don't usually read more than one book at a time.
I read a few books on it Ibooks before myself, strangely I never had the wacky bookmarking issue until I actually bought some of apples own books it's a pretty weird thing I'm going to just agree with Hodapp that it's probably something to do with their own DRM or the syncing. I do really prefer i2eader myself, while it doesn't have the fancy page turn effects either it works well, is very customisable, I like the interface and I've read a lot of books on it with no issues at all. I'm sure nothing beats a real ereader though.
I only bought one book on iBooks - the Hitchhikers Guide collection. I read the first book without an issues at all. However I'm getting a Kindle Touch, so that thing will stay on iBooks. As far as Kindle DRM, it's just as bad - they are all bad. You can't read a Kindle book on an e-ink Nook or a Sony eReader. DRM = BAD. It is certainly true, though, that you can get a reader from amazon for a variety of devices. Now I'd say, yes, buy Kindle books, but no I'm not giving their DRM a pass. It's still DRM and it still creates restrictions.
I kind of got round that one with the reader I just bought it runs on Android and is quite easily rooted so basicly I have a sony reader with the option of installing the android Kindle app so I've just about got access to almost all the stores now. I think I was right in thinking nothing beats an ereader in my earlier post I almost read a full book since yesterday and my battery is still showing 100% only downside is I still need to order one of the covers with the led lighting. Was really close to buying a kindle despite that though.
