Come at the ships from the bow or stern so that you can lay several bombs down in a run. The regular bombs work best for this.

I find rocket bombs work better on hitting ships.

In addition to the tip above, slow down when you start bombing a ship, some ships takes more than 1 (non-yellow) bomb to sink:

Cargo ship, destroyer - 1 hit
    Submarine - 1 hit (?)
    Crusier (heavy/light?) - 2 hits
    Flat top - 3 hits
    Battleship - 3 hits (iirc)
All airplanes (counted as ship!!!) - 1 hit

Battleship is your worst enemy for for her big AA guns array.

Rocket bombs are better for pinpoint hits, true, but for several hits in one run they are slower to load in the drop bay. I use rocket bombs for direct hits, but I find ships just as east to hit when using default bombs as described above.

I only slow down when dropping the yellow "fat boy" bombs, as they take soooo long to fall. Their large blast radius makes them great for taking out multiple land targets with one hit. Slowing down above a ship is fine, unless the ship is armed with lots of anti-air defenses.

Yup, thanks for sharing, but slow down and hit things with rocket bomb also works. :D

And if you want to mess with yourself, do a tight turn by slowing down around the target, drop the rockets when either side crosses the aim center (tougher ships are usually longer)

Will try the second method when I had time -- since I figure out I have beaten this game in 2 days and has little incentive to return...

[Edit] Actually I have managed to since a flat-top with fatties more than once -- very lucky.

Hey, while we're talking strategy, what strategy do you follow in mission two for protecting the convoy? I lose lots of ships on that level. Too many.

I'm glad they put out a lite version. I'd been thinking of springing for the full version based on the reviews here. Downloaded and played the lite and while I had fun, I'm not sure the replayability is deep enough for me. I can see it getting old quickly, so I'll save the $ for something else.

Take out those gorram ships first and fast would be my advice. I find that they happen to inflict most damages onto my convoy. If not sinking them outright, hit them with at least one bomb would be better and wait for your BBs to arrive and save the day (do not kill them by "friendly" fire).

Oh, is this mission included in the Lite version?

Just finished the first (and only) mission in the lite. Took me 3 tries. Seems hard at first, but when you get the hang of it, its pretty doable and fun.

Does it get much much harder in the subsequent levels in the full version?
