    Sorry but I will be one of those who will boycott any developer who puts ads in a paid app. I don't put ads for other books in the books I publish-especially when people are paying-and I wouldn't buy from a publisher who did that either. Apps are no different.

    It could be argued that DVD's have ads for other movies, but they don't appear in the middle of what I'm watching.

    And yeah, for the record, I hate the ads for other shows that scroll across the bottom of the screen on tv, too.

    I don't want to start some forum fight or something, but the fact that you are calling me childish is quite hilarious.

    The reason PSP doesn't have ads is because it can support itself through game sales because they are sold at a higher price point. It is a lot harder to make money when the game costs $0.99.

    I am not a developer, I am a customer that realizes the needs of independent developers and loves the cheap games that they provide us with.

    I think you're rapidly becoming very unpopular.
    Anyway, your question can't be answered until iAds are released. If they are fun and interactive- as Steve said- then they could become a very fun insert within a game. Personally, ads within games don't put me off. Look at We Rule, that has ads (by AdMob) and do they put me off? Nah. They're present, and I'm aware of them, but they don't push me away from the game. When iAds are released, it may become a permanent fixture within the App Store to mention within the App description if there are iAds (maybe where it states the App Size etc) and then the dev's wouldn't have the pressure to say whether they have them or not.
    In my opinion, if you're gonna complain and not download any Apps with them in, then don't. If more apps start to use them and it becomes compulsary, pay $25+ more for a PSP game, then you don't have to worry. Just don't rant about how you dislike them as it's starting to become very annoying.

    I still don't get it... Why are you people fighting about Ads?
    I can't seem to find what's wrong about them...

    Plus, if Paid apps have Ads, that means more revenue for the devs and gives the devs the probability of lowering the price of their games right?

    -Edit- And oh, as Seldom said, iAds look very attractive and fun unlike AdMob, that Toy Story 3 Ad was amazing.

    who are you to say im not unpopular?? i dont care about your opionion..and i have the right to say my opionion ..if you dislike...you leave the thread..dont force what to be said ...

    and you know what lets organize this....

    1-about iads in free apps
    -------------------------
    a)this is beautiful option for people dont have money ..both dev and customers
    b) as now in appstore all free apps tells you its free...and for people who needs a better QUALITY upgrade

    end=> both consumers are happy

    2-about iads in paid apps
    ---------------------------
    there will NEVER be a universal iad in all apps simply because companies with big name will never do it....like ea,gameloft ,square enix

    so this will divide appstore to 2 parts...very high quality companies which insist on no ads
    and some young dev who arent buying well or their apps are simply not good enough so they have to rely on ads
    so a result

    (a)iads in paid apps hidden from consumers

    ===================================
    there must be in describtion that it has iad..when i buy a car or anything i have to know all what is in it ..no surprises...

    HE WILL TRY TO HIDE INORDER TO SELL

    ....if you try to hide...then its a BAD THING
    ....if you try to hide ...then i cant trust you anymore
    ....if you try to hide ...then i wont support you

    (b)iads in paid ads well shown
    =========================
    respectable dev ...just being honest make me wanting to support him

    3)appstore and psp
    ================
    well never ads meant something of quality..it meant the need of money

    psp: has high price and thats why not crippled by ads
    iphone:
    if it has iads all confessed that its bad thing but to support dev alow
    ads..well this will make iphone , ipad inferior to psp and guess what it
    never gameloft complained about prices..in engadet i think when they reduced prices in christmas at 0.99 cents they were doing massive money more than oridnary..so the thing is who needs iad is a crappy dev who doesnt bother to make his app less shiny and beautiful

    4)about iad itself
    ==============
    ads in pc in site...pc moniter is hugh...but iphone is small...and like GIZMODO said this will be the end of 1/8 of your screen..go see the video of steve jobs
    the lower 1/8 of iphone is lost forever

    5)solution
    =========
    for dev:
    1- he must say if his app has iad or not
    2-if his app happened to be very usefull offer 2 version with a higher price for iad free app like whats going on in app store

    for people who like ads in their life
    1- well its your golden era..and sure you are related to devs by a way or other

    for people who dont like ads and would pay money for quality
    1-dont download any app till you see reviews and comments you must do a research
    2- if you got decived by dev and found iad whether when you buy it or inform of hidden upgrade--->rate it one star and leave a comment about how this movement is bad

    one last word
    ===========
    although appstore is full of crap apps...and with introduction of ipad..there was a big move to quality..it seems we are going back to carp apps once again...it seem ipad/iphone is cursed with crap:mad:

    You're not just expressing your Opinion, you're Imposing your opinion like if everyone else should agree.

    You're also telling the Devs what they have to do with their apps, using the verb "must".

    because theirapp becomes our app when you buy it

    like when you buy a car ...everything is clear..you trust the company,,yoou buy the car...it becomes yours

    its a mutul relationship not a one side relationship...and its money that is paid ..you dont pay money on things you dont know well do you?
    lol

    and im imposing my opionio to express it ...to agree or not its upto you ADboy

    But when you buy a car you spend a hell of a lot more than 99c so it's expected.
    Oh, and why do you say Gameloft, EA etc are very high quality companies? Let's face it, EA have made some extremely shocking games, some of which don't even work. Compare them to, for example, the developer of Mini Squadron. MS is a very high quality app, and still would be with an iAd in it. The iAd makes no difference to the quality of the app, it creates more revenue to the developer therefore creating more opportunity to carry on developing. Gameloft will also see the opportunity for more money with iAds, so whose to say they won't include them? I wouldn't put an AdMob ad in my app, but iAd looks astonishing, so I'd happily put one in my app. Gameloft may well do the same, especially if they decide to work more closely with Apple.
    Have you seen the demo of iAds? They can have games in them! They'll be published by Apple so do you really think Apple will let some scummy little ad onto their iAd system? Hell no!
    Personally (yes this is entirely my opinion) I can't wait for them.

    I haven't read any posts here yet and I wont read them today, but my opinion on iAds in paid and free apps:

    I will definitely like iAds much more than Admob ads or anything like that. And maybe O'll even click one or two ;)
    In free apps, I'm totally fine with the way iAds work. In paid apps, iAds may be used, but only in very low priced apps. Anyway, if a developer adds iAds to a paid app, he must do it in a way that doesn't distract me from the actual app. Otherwise I'll think twice before buying other apps by this dev.

    Just my opinion as a gamer.

    well believe it or not....alot of peoples dont find it astonishing..alot of people hate it and a will abandon the dev...hahaha see the votes!!!

    Believe it ...in anything ..there is people who like and people who dont like...we must have a choice...if you are an ad freak like the minority according to votes ..i respect that..you go and choose the app with ad and keep staring in the ad!
    And if you dont like the ads like majority according to votes..and like guality apps...then you can buy an app for a higher price and both support that dev and enjoy what you like...is not having ads

    dont force something into people...let them choose

    Secondly...i dont know how you deal with money..but in my life whether i buy or sell...for high or low price...i dont hide anything ..wherther its high or low price..whether im a buyer or a seller...i dont know who even i talk to you about morals of people with people..you have to be honest and not hide anything whether it price

    i think that votes are best evidence about the new hiding and forcing ads into apps...and by the way never square enix ,ea or gameloft will do it...only crappy dev will use it...and will be abandoned just like votes telling

    Your right about the votes, but those votes are very confusing to me. I don't understand, as I've said before, why anyone would pass up a quality product or great game just because of a small unobtrusive ad.

    I have to believe the reason people are voting that way is to try and scare developers into not using ads. Maybe I'm wrong though.

    I think the poll is worded rather strongly - it goes from acceptance to boycott and nothing in between. I might buy an app with ads, but you can be sure I would e-mail the dev and ask them to remove them... I don't think I would just accept it as inevitable...

    Ok Let's Say App "X" Costs 0.99$ with iAd.

    Would you, Rivozzz, accept to buy a version of the Exactly Same App without ads but instead of paying 0.99$ you would pay 1.99$?

    iAd does not only benefit the Developers, but it benefits us, the consumers, too, making possible a price drop.

    iAd could be the solution to those Awesome Games from Gameloft, Chillingo, Com2Us, EA, Ubisoft, Activison, etc... that are usually a lil' bit more expensive than the common games (from 6.99 up to 14.99$).

    Besides, As Far As I Know, iAds won't affect either performance or quality of apps at all because it's build within the iPhoneOS 4.0

    I see your Argument rather pointless and confusing.

    Yes, they may not like them. However, I find it hard to believe that all the people that voted to boycott would truly follow through.

    Acutally i did this...there was an app called fml with ads..i bought fml pro without ads
    and there is app twitterific i think i did the same
    and again and time will prove it.big companies will never do it..there is always a button of more games in main menu if u like to see ad press it..

    And again most people apparently dont like iads

    and why are always caring for dev supporting than consumers supporting..who are you a consumer or a dev

    and who in world agree to hide stuff to sell your product!

    I dont undetstand your argument ..i dont even understand you are defending or attacking...
    Answer clearly

    are you with the minority of ad freaks or not?
    Are you with hiding the app has iad inorder to sell the game or not?
    Do you if you are an ad freak...think that all apps should have iads because they are woow..and the majority who doesnt like it..must accept and love them?
    Are you with that the app should be free or low priced with iad..and there should be another higher priced version with no iads?
    Are you with that iads is so wooow that psp ps3 are consoles are missing alot because there is no ads?

    Answer to each question so i can understand your opinIon

    My view is that advertising is aimed more often at people who can't think for themselves. I mainly buy game apps and happily admit this to be escapism. I don't like being told I should like/want this or that just because it's good for someone else's bank balance. Keep iAds outta my face unless I choose to download a free app: which granted will need a revenue stream. This is how Macdonalds ended up chaining into Asia..."there's a beautiful temple...oh what's that next door -a Fu**ing Mcdonald's" They call it the American Embassy. As soon as I heard Jobs refer to this 'iAds tentpole' my inflatable started to hiss. The definitions of iAds usage were not made clear leaving it wide open to misuse. To me it's a bad sign. I buy a ton of apps. No I don't want a coke with that you *sshole! I think we're on the same page Jason.
