...I just reinstalled Hero of Sparta on my 1st "gen" touch and it seems that they did make some pretty good improvements on the game. Not only does it seem like it's running at a steadier and slightly faster clip (I don't experience much slowdown now when the screen is filled with enemies), but the game looks a little sharper overall. Plus...there's an option for red blood. I have a friend with the PSP version so I wanted to check out the differences between that and the original (but didn't get to unfortunately, maybe later today) and was pleasantly surprised to see that Gameloft actually stealthily improved the game a bit. No new levels or anything, but it moves at a better clip and looks nicer. So, I'm gonna give it another go.
They updated Oregon Trail too with a harder difficulty setting, it took months for them to do it though.
Bad thing about this game is that it really doesn't pick up until you reach the 5th level (iirc, it was called Descent). The one that introduced the giant pendulum axes and was all watery and underground. Had a nice cool bluish tone to it, and I remember that that was the first level that actually had a steady framerate on my 1st "gen". Just wanna play through to see how smooth that level plays now. And I'm hoping Gameloft is working on a sequel to this one. Maybe with near the level of animation that's in Blades of Fury.
Yeah, that would be nice. I can see them making a 'Hero of Sparta 2'. Hopefully the graphics will be a little better too. Not that they were bad in the original, but they are just a bit 'Gamelofty' if you know what I mean.
"stringy" is what I call 'em. They've got very "stringy" character models. Oh, and the color palettes for the backgrounds are usually just...eh. That's why Descent level was so good looking. Very subdued color palette. It didn't look like my cat's puke when he eats too much.
