A post from a poor developer on another message board I use. Not your usual tale of woe: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=906168 I thought this might be interesting to developers here; some of the advice offered is quite good.
Damn. That sucks. Now the last few minutes of my day are becoming sort of depressing... Apple should have faster response times.
i think its unfortunate. you need to be 100% clear about the information you submit to Apple - changing it can be a total nightmare. we've never had any problems with payments from Apple; they arrive every month, on time and in our account since October 2008. i have heard lots of bad reports when people provide bad or incorrect information - they should really be more careful (and, apple should also be more responsive)
This person is an idiot and whatever happens to them is their fault. Who quits their job just because they make 2500 dollars? What? And why would he say that he is a company based in England, when he is just an individual from elsewhere? This person is very stupid, and quite frankly, they deserve what they are getting. If they had just taken the time to make everything right, they wouldnt be complaining right now.
sometimes its great I had a problem with a discount (web only) bank I use and after Apple notified me of the problem, I went out got a new account at a major bank and submitted my details to them through the contact us form. They updated my bank information almost immediately and notified me that they had done so. Problem solved.
do you guys really have sympathy for people who quit their jobs thinking they can get rich quick in a cutthroat market? I already knew it would be impossible for devs to generate a constant revenue stream for their apps after seeing how quickly their games could be cloned with much higher production values for competitive prices.
i dont pity this guy - i feel it is unfortunate. all business ideas need good planning and execution - he obviously screwed up the execution side of things. you gotta run a cost effective model, spend little, earn more. a lot of players have tried to make it big and now are in debt. it is good news for indie devs like myself (who, do this for fun) - but, i wouldn't quit my job over it.
First thing I would do is borrow $99, create a new, correct dev account, and re-submit all my apps under the new account. That would at least stop the bleeding.
Anyone know what happened with this guy at last? I read he sent an email to Steve Jobs. I don't think S.J. is more than a face in the company. C'mon, he's just the visible face of a huge company, that's it.
Steve Jobs has bigger fish to fry, this sort of thing will get taken care of by people who are paid hourly. It would be like emailing bill gates or steve ballmer, you'd get a standard form letter reply starting with "We appreciate your correspondance.........."
Yeah, I know. I read that comment and laugh. Yeah yeah dude, for Sure uncle Steve is replying your emails. I sent one to Obama, and he replied me! the email says, I'm Obama! I call it a day. I'm done. ROFL
Noooo Many ex-employees at Apple have regaled stories of Steve Jobs pouring attention to the tinest pixels of OS X and the iPhone! I'm pretty sure he's greatly involved in every single product Apple puts out.
Hahahahahaha. Oh oh! yes. Of course. It's funny that a lot of people thinks that Steve Jobs is Apple, and he decide what to do and what not. Oh God... it's hilarious.
Same. I did change our the bank account related to our iTunes income at one point. I asked what was required by email, then sent a fax and email as requested. Our account was changed by the next payment. Sure is, but there's so many parts of his story that just don't add up. Why was he trying to create an account in England? Why did he use a company name? At the point where he said "My bank of course rejected this transfer from Apple" he probably could have made some adjustments at the bank end and it would have been fine. I'm not sure if it's the same for other countries, but in Australia individuals can trade under a company name (as a "sole trader") and the bank would have accepted payments made under the sole trader name. I think it sounds like he's either done some slightly shifty things to avoid issues (maybe the country he actually lives in didn't allow iPhone dev at the time he signed up), or he's just been a little naive about how these things work. Hopefully it all gets sorted out for him soon.
I have no idea what the hell he was trying to do. England, he doesn't live an England, fake company, wha...?
Yeah, a lot of his story doesn't add up, does it? There was comment in that thread speculating that it might be a 419-style scam: "Just give me your bank account details so Apple can deposit it there, and I promise I'll give you half of whatever they pay me..." etc.
