PSN just got some substantial permanent price drops tonight on Gt, resistance, lbp to $20, and also got the new PSP essentials lowering many great games to $10, like SF: logans shadow, and several others. Looks like Sony is ready to compete in prices.

I think you can rest assured that the PSone classics are going to stay the same price. I think 5.99 is fair for many of the games, and the ones that aren't worth 5.99 I really wouldn't want anyway.

If its free as a gift then just get it, it does have some resell value if you don't like it or get sick of it. I got my PSP about 4 years ago, barely ever play it now because of the iphone. I just don't find the games for it as interesting or creative as iphone games. I've never seen anyone over 15 playing a PSP in public ever either.

Anyway its not a bad system, its got a few games that make it alright to own. The PSone games look and run fine on it. Check out the game Medievil, a solid game available as a PSone classic and PSP remake.

LBP planet on the PSP is one of the best platformers I've ever played and it was a huge leap up from the iPhone platformers i'm so used to playing. I actually have been using my PSP to run emulators of old systems using custom firmware :)

I think the question is, do you want a portable device that you can bring with you anywhere or do you want a portable device that you can use around the house and places you bring a bag to? The only two gaming devices right now with 'anywhere' portability are the PSPGo and iPod Touch. While the DS(i and XL) and PSP-3000(and earlier) can only be brought with you when carrying a bag to put them in. I took my chances with a Go after finding it used, and I wouldn't turn back. I can throw it in my back pocket and forget that it is there, while also having 21 full games, 3 PSone games, 8 minis, and 8 PSN exclusive games with plenty more space (I also have a 16 gig memory card). My iPod touch has pretty much only become useful for internet surfing, and a very select few games.
If you get a 3000, buy it used and hacked. It would be completely ridiculous to have to carry the extra space and weight and not have emulators. I also feel the reason many people complain about the lack of UMD support is because they pirate games, and the Go hasn't been hacked yet. While I'm sure there are several people out there with backlogs of UMDs, I see more hacked PSPs with pirated games on Craigslist than any other system. And with research, there are many games on the PSN that are cheaper than Gamestop, and weekly sales usually bring a great game for $10 or less.
Every person I've met with a Go loves it. It feels great in the hands, the sound is noticeably louder, the ability to save and exit your game, crisper graphics, charging through USB, Bluetooth with support for SixAxis controller+headphones, component and composite TV connection compatibility, and SensMe music player (I'm not sure if this is on previous versions, kinda like Genius). it hands down wups the 3000.
Another complaint I've seen is the lack of support for the camera. I was upset about this too. I went searching for a solution, and in Japan they sell an adapter that allows for its connection. While not the prettiest thing, it usually comes with me on any vacation or trips to see my nieces and nephews.

My biggest complaints would deal with wi-fi and the internet browser. I usually download my games from my computer because the Go only has a Wireless-B connection, which is a little to slow when I have Wireless-N at my house. I don't know why they didn't put at least Wireless-G. This problem is interlaced with the internet browser because loading any webpage that is not in a mobile format is incredibly slow. You'll be lucky if it'll even load the whole page before you get a message telling you there is not enough memory.
Luckily I still use my iPod Touch for the internet surfing so my problems are very minor when compared to the exceptional build and connectivity of the device.
Get the Go, it is the best portable gaming device on the market for any serious gamer on the go. I also would like to believe that Sony will make the downloaded games compatible with future generations of the device, and if they don't I'll still be happy with keeping the Go around.

Jesus... you put so much into that post I feel compelled to reply :p

Yeah, I think I'm gonna get the Go. The games I want to play most are all downloadable, it's not gonna cost me any extra since it's a present and I've never liked UMDs anyway (don't ask why, they just feel crappy and remind me of minidiscs). Plus I prefer the style of the Go despite hearing mostly negative views.

Thanks for all the help :)

The Go can also run emulators so if you get tired of PSP/PS1 games you still have that to fall back on.

    Done. :)

I also haven't been using my iPod as much since I got my Go. Reason I still keep it is for the web, music, and the old games I got attached to already.(drop7, defender chronicles, etc.)
