Just don't give up. Make some decisions of just how important it is, what sacrifices you'd make to do it and then go from there. I always wanted to do music as a job. It took me years to get good enough and several false starts to make it a reality. The app store is really a huge gift for indies, sure it's a bit of a gamble, but learning to program is a good thing to have in your back pocket no matter what you do!
