I went hunting with my uncle once. It was really boring and we only saw 2 deer, a mom deer and her baby deer. It was pretty lame. I got to shoot a 500 magnum though so I guess that made up for it.
I used to hunt when I lived with my dad in the country. We shot mainly pheasants, squirrels, rabbits, wood pigeon etc using my air rifle or my dad's shotgun. I would've loved to go hunting with a powerful rifle but as you probably know, gun laws are pretty tight in the UK. We cooked and ate most of our kills and we made sure we didn't kill too many. Hunting isn't always bad, it just gets a bad reputation from those idiots who go and shoot endangered animals for fun and/or money. Also I really don't understand why hippies/PETA don't like hunting because they say it's cruel for the animal? What? Shooting an animal in the head/heart is a far more humane way to kill an animal than many other ways it could suffer in the wild. Even wounding an animal is probably less painful than being chased by a predator and slowly being ripped apart. Hunting animals can also be beneficial to the animal. For example when a deer population gets too high, many animals will slowly starve to death through the winter. And that is partly why people cull them. A quick shot to the brain would be far less painful than slowly starving to death in the cold. Nature isn't just about giving life and pretty flowers, nature is also harsh and cruel.
im a avid archer. before my accident i would always go hunting with my longbow. now i just build longbows and shoot at hay bails. body is to broken to hunt. chris.
Nature is very barbaric, so were humans. But now people are much less barbaric and hunting is very humane when you compare it to many naturally occurring deaths animals suffer every second.
...humans killing animals for no reason is better than other animals killing them because they need to eat?
I hunt quail that's about it. My step-dad's family are a bunch of hunters though. I can't bring myself to shoot elk, but I love eating it. Edit: When we all hunt, we hunt for food. We never leave anything left and we use every part. It's disgusting hunting just to kill shit.
I don't think the animals are too concerned as to why they are being killed, but if you want to get into the morality of hunting (for sport), then yes you are right and I agree. But people (like me and booch) have hunted and eaten what we killed. I'd rather be a pheasant that has had all of it's life to roam around freely than some battery chicken that's been shut up in a small cage with 50 other chickens all it's life.
