Game looks great, hopefully it's out this week! I have some questions - Is there a wide variety of weapons (like flamers, missile launchers, mines) or is it just rusty assault rifle, shiny assault rifle etc? Do you pick your chars from a list, can you aquire new ones from missions? Are there many customisable options for the chars? Like talent trees? Are there "classes" in the game? Like range, medic, engineer etc? If so, how many? Will older daily contracts be available to buy at some point? For example you can buy all of Marchs contracts via IAP for 59p Cheers!
Great idea horsebot, I'd really like to see all of the contracts/maps etc grouped into a download pack, even if it costs extra as an IAP - at least then you could have that content on your phone forever. If you play some content and enjoy it, you should be able to revisit it whenever you like, it shouldn't just disappear! It just doesn't make sense to have levels and maps disappearing - yes, by all means give us the ability to download new maps each day, but don't take them away from us just as quickly! I like to pick up my iPhone as and when, play through a few games, and then come back to a level I'm stuck on a few days later. I don't like the idea of almost being forced to visit the app every day, download new content and rush through a mission or two just to feel like I'm getting value for money. I'd much rather that once you download a new contract, it's yours and it's on your phone and it isn't going to disappear in a day.. where's the replay value in that? Especially since, as you say, the opposing forces will be randomly placed each time you play the map - there's immense replay value there, why take it away after 24 hours!? I really don't know why the devs have gone down this route as it's turned a game I was really really hoping for (after playing countless hours of XCom and Sabre Team on the Amiga) into one I might even avoid altogether
So if I understand it correctly, there's about 200 missions in the app at release, but only 5 of them are available on any day, with available missions rotating depending on which day it is, right? And additional IAPs will make new missions, that you can play anytime, available? Two questions: - how should the game run on older devices? - how dependent on downloads is the experience? (or in other words, will I be screwed for having an iPod Touch? )
Yeah, that's kinda how I read it too. I just think we should be able to choose which missions we play from a vast catalogue, rather than it being dictated to us by some weird rotation system..
Another question, will each contract have a set difficulty or will it be optionable? I.e could you play as a level 2 team infinitely? (not that I would!)
If any content I have is deleted after each day, I will be pissed off, to the point where I will no longer play. Though the game does look very cool.
Apologies for not answering your earlier questions trystero.... 1). There are 7 different weapon classes. Each class contains around 50 types of that weapon. We intend to release new weapon classes for free in updates. It's also possible to modify weapons with equipment to make them more accurate, give them splash damage, etc. 2). Yes, we have a system called "Guard" which is similar to Overwatch in Hulk. 3). We've talked about grenades, landmines and tripwires. We hope to release them in a free patch in the future. 4). Talents play a huge part in levelling your Hunters. They give either passive boosts or activated specials. Check out the trees: http://arcadelife.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/img_0194.png 5). No vehicles or environmental damage yet. Once again, they're things we've talked about for updates.
Very much looking forward to this. It's been a long time since I've played a decent squad based TBS. Well, that was over a week ago now. Any more news on a release date?
Is the game going to be released as soon as apple approves it or is t going to be held for a release date?
Rather than only having to look at it from top down, is it also possible for us to view the action from a 3d-ish perspective ? like from an angle , behind my units .
It's top-down, with the ability to zoom and rotate the map pretty much as you like. All top-down, though. I've been playing a pre-release of the full game, for review on my gaming blog - check the blog link in my sig and find the hands-on preview and the more recent review for quite a lot of info & my own screen shots.
Aw darn ): Top downs are just .. meh >.> I like turn based strategy games and sci fi but the damage numbers are just weird . I mean 200 damage from a machine gun ? 700 from a sledge hammer ? Lol . Maybe I'm just too used to fantasy TBS . On your blog , it says this is one of the best turn based strategies that you've ever played . How does this compare to Battle for Wesnoth ? The graphics however look very polished . You mentioned in app purchases . What is it really ? I didn't quite get your point .
X-COM missions had zero replayability. Once a mission was complete, whether you were successful or not, you had no way of playing it again unless you cheated and re-loaded a previous save.
Looks like it should be a cool game .... loved the classic turn-based games like XCON On a side note .... i really REALLY want someone to remake Syndicate!
I agree regarding X-COM, BUT with this game the devs are putting in random AI placement and tactics, which gives each level/mission/map 100% replayability. We should therefore be able to replay the missions as much as we like, without having to be forced to play new missions every day.. that's what I'm trying to say.
