Rodeo games are busy making "warhammer quest" which is due out soon if you like hunters then this will be one to look out for.
Game Impressions I grabbed Hunters: EP1 for free when my friend suggested me. I really liked that one, and got my money's worth. So, when I saw Hunters 2 for .99 yesterday, I was excited and bought it right away as I really wanted to see what was new. Reading through this entire thread didn't help my curiosity either! I made an account just to talk about this game as I am one of those hardcore gamer types that find phone games to be too light, but some iOS games like Galaxy on Fire 2 and Hunters really made the platform more interesting for me. I guess I have more to explore and learn. So anyway, about the game, the first thing I noticed was the graphics change. The first game was already good enough, but this one feels better. After a while, it still feels like the first one, but there are changes for the better nonetheless. Assault Rifles and Miniguns fire barrages, which may look like a gimmick but it really adds personality to weapons. The "light" weapons in the first game were pretty much "super weak shotgun with long range", "reasonably powerful shotgun with OP range" and "shotgun", if you know what I mean. As a sidenote I must ask what Accuracy does for Miniguns or Assault Rifles as their bullets always seem to hit. If I were to guess it affects the amount of bullets, and perhaps even the sustaining rate for the former. Though I am not sure of that and I get way less sustaining fire chances than what my 50% accuracy would suggest. Anyway, Assault Rifles seem to be perfect now! Half the damage for quadruple the range of shotguns? Yes please! I tried a 55% crit Epic AR and it punches every medium armor dead in two or at maximum three shots, it's amazing for a weapon with such great range. Works great with +30% crit. The Miniguns and the Plasma rifles are a welcome addition. Every weapon in the game feels different now, which is something the first Hunters lacked. I haven't tried the Rocket Launchers yet but they could probably be useful against; Aliens! I'm not too sure about this one. I mean, you're not forced to go up against them in daily missions, but their tactics are so stale and boring. It's like going up against a team of Hammer+Improved Metabolism Hunters with the varying armors along with the troublesome exploders. Then again, more is more and they do make good target practice. I still enjoy the tactical options humans offer other than "hold your ground and keep your distance" that always seems to work with aliens. I really like the new talent system. It gives more options while forcing specialization. There isn't much else to say besides that it isn't as restrictive as it used to be and that it is better than the old one. It is also great that you can buy however many hunters you want to buy, but a hard cap at 6 is a bad idea in my opinion. I'd rather have the "team value" thing, the first game did that aspect of the game better; you could choose your level and get resistance/rewards accordingly. It is somewhat alleviated by how even level ones can carry the best weapons, but in the customization department, I'd really love to be able to get a bunch of riflemen instead of being forced to use elite badasses that take on five people at once. Edit: Totally forgot about the crafting system! The modularized weapons system is great for experimenting with different combinations, and I really enjoy the possibilities it offers. Also gives something to work for.
Same here. I got into turn based tactical games last year (Thank you X-Com!), got Hunters 1 for free, and had to get 2 when I saw it was 0.99 I'm loving it. Tons of tactical depth. I just discovered the strategy of sending one guy into a room and then pulling back into a defensive position. Also just realized that Guard costs a point. Three questions: - When you're on Guard, sometimes your coverage highlights your fellow mercs. Like lets say I have my hammer guy guarding an doorway and a soldier behind him on guard. The hammer guy would be covered, but does this do anything? Are there levels with a mix of human and alien enemies? And do the two groups fight eachother? Can you only use special abilities like Massacre only once per mission?
Hug the right part of the map, always have guys facing every side. Heavy armor to meatshield the doctors against the exploders. Send two shotgun guys to retrieve Dr. Otnik and make sure he cannot be ninja'd. I don't know if they fight eachother, but so far I have only seen mixes on reactor defense missions and they never chose to attack eachother. However, there are elite hunters in mission 5 and they seem to be shooting the aliens when they get a chance to, but they don't move in their turn and use Guard ability, so really, I don't know yet.
Try to be out of their line of sight before the turn ends. The trick is to make them waste as much AP as possible. Heavy armor ones can survive one turn kills but crippling shot focus fire works wonders. Your own plasma overcharges work as well. Don't rely on your tank against the heavier weapons, the non armor health is very misleading unlike the first game and your guy will go down much faster if you are stuck in their range after you spend your meager 3 AP.
Every time your experience bar (the white bar shown on the upper left in missions) hits the end, you go up a level (up to 10) and get to pick a skill. Youll only ever be able to choose 9 abilities, including specialized weapons, stim packs, and medkits and you will want some of those. I find stim packs to be most valuable. I generally max out one skill path and then pick a few miscellaneous other things. The key is not to reveal Dr. Otnik until youve killed the two big aliens near the south door of that room. Get a guy with a shotgun into the doorway, shoot at them (left one first), then fall back. Repeat. Use guard a lot, especially against the exploders coming out of the passageway to the left.
So I beat the story awesome game easily got my money's worth but what I'm wondering is the rest of the game just grinding for the best loot ? What is the incentive to keep playing? I know I got a legendary every time I beat the story so,is that it? And this isn't bad I played for 30 hours so easily the money's worth.
There isn't an incentive past whether you're still having fun. Once you've unlocked the various skills, played with the different weapons, felt like you've had your fun killing the bad guys, it's time to play something else. I love turn based strategy, I really love squad level TBS, and I had a good time with both Hunters games, but longevity they do not particularly have, this in spite of their clear attempt at doing so with the "random" daily missions. The series, particularly the 2nd, is probably the best of this type of game on iOS, but I haven't touched it since the campaign started dropping purples for me. That was late April or early May a year ago. That I still follow this thread says how much I enjoyed it.
I agree. The tension just isn't there. Games like the original XCom had nail biting tension that made each mission worth playing and replaying. Hunters is missing this...
Well I'm still going to play it just not as much however this was a great purchase. They should hunters 3 bigger and better.
I just got this game and am experienced in SP TB games but I am getting killed,in the first mission after the initial one where you escape. I'm outnumbered and even after I take out the first group of baddies, my guys are sombanged up,that they die soon after meeting the next group. Meow can Imheal in combat? I looked in the shipboard store looking for health packs but all I saw were weapons and armor. What am I missing?
