Somebody else mentioned using two men squads, so I was wondering about the advantages of doing so.

So far, I have been mainly playing the daily missions, except for the first tutorial campaign mission. Do these daily missions ever repeat?

    Gifts?

When I go to the lottery I tend to just click the advertisement so I can get cool armor or weapons, but they also give you upgraded stimpack, reduce weight on heavy weapon, better health, and for some reason I can find any of that. The only things I can find are armor and weapons from the gifts, any ideas?

In addition to the mission completion award, your hunters are awarded XP for the amount of damage they do and the number of kills they get. If you only send two men, they'll naturally get more XP since they're the ones doing everything. So they'll level up faster, but then your other men won't get anything at all. There's also a credit bonus for taking an undersized team, but it's not that large. Personally, like Chip, I just played the game normally and my team leveled up fine.

Yes, the daily missions repeat, but not as a block. That is, sometimes you'll encounter the same missions on different days, but never all the same missions on the same day (if that makes sense). There are several dozen different missions, somewhere around 40-50 in total, I estimate.

These games are pretty good, but I just couldn't get sucked in for some reason. Every mission kind of feels the same so there just wasn't enough variety there to keep me interested. Plus, the inventory management to make sure your guys have the best stuff equipped felt like a major chore.

Overall, I think it's a good game and a steal at 99 cents but the micromanagement of the squad between missions just wasn't enjoyable for me. I'm sure that aspect is probably exactly what other people may be looking for though, so give it a shot if it sounds like your cup of tea.

Yep the micromanagement of inventory is one of the things I enjoy as theres not that many ios games that show depth of that kind.

I still play from time to time.

I may be able to help. What do you wish to know?

Move your team a little at a time to draw the enemy to you.
Reserve movement so you can set your men to guard and and automatically fire
at incoming enemies. I use one guy with the heaviest armour and a hammer to take the punishment
and deal damage close up. My other men have medium armor and shot guns and a rifle. I made sure when they levelled up, to give them the medic perk. They can now heal full health.

I have not tried the flamer weapons or the plasma gun yet.
Remember, even if you fail a mission , you still get the goods found as well as experience earned.

    Have fun!

Thanks for the tips! I just feel like I'm doing something really wrong because I'm dying a ton. I don't know if I'm spec'ing correctly or if my class/weapon setup is correct.

You need to remember that the enemies you face are the same level as you. Going toe-to-toe with them is likely to end up with many dead on both sides. You need to move cautiously, set up room entries, and try to engage enemies out of their range but inside yours. And avoid ending your turns with hunters exposed, especially if they're lightly armoured.

This is a tip to live by in hunters. :D I probably do most of my killing while on guard.

You can choose the difficulty setting in the options menu.
Pretty sure if you play it on the harder settings you get better loot drops :D

The story is "farmable". Each time you beat it you get another legendary until you've gotten one of each (then you just get random purple gear).

The daily missions are "meh" in my opinion. Had a lot more fun replaying the story until I'd collected all the legendaries than I did the "endless" daily missions. They are even more repetitive and predictable than in the first game. They use larger map chunks so there's a lot less variety in the game play.

Hi Markku, there's a "Hardcore" mode on the New Game screen. You'll have to start a new game to activate it. However, if you do, it means when your Hunters die, they're gone. Forever.

    Enjoy.

Hardcore mode will help you become attached to your mercenaries, but it’ll drive you crazy too. When a guy dies, you lose his armor and weapons. Stim packs and survival skills become your most common upgrades. Feel free to abandon a game (in the pause menu) if you moved into a bad spot – better to live and fight another day. Watch out for blast effects, including from your own rockets (blast radius: 2) and exploding flamer dudes or bomb aliens (radius: 1).

As has been said, completing the campaign over and over again (reset it in “settings”) gets you a ‘legendary’ item (orange) when you win. There are one of each weapon and armor type, I think. If you keep playing, you still get good stuff, albeit purple.

But just starting out, I’d say use guard a lot, and remember that it takes an action point just to go into guard mode. Don’t rush into things. Have a quick guy look around the corner, then fall back and plan your attack. Assume whoever saw you might come after you. I don’t find heavy armor useful unless it’s on a guy with enough upgrades to get an extra action point (the 4th upgrade in the scouting path). Scouting and combat are great; vengeance not so much. Support can be useful on a guy with a powerful assault rifle. Assault rifles and shotguns should be your core weapons. Play around with the others too, of course.

Since the enemies match your guys’ level, you can sort of cheat by giving level 1 mercenaries good weapons and armor. They’ll run roughshod over the bad guys until you and them level up a bit. I think using three or fewer in a mission gets you the “small team” bonus. It also means more experience shared among fewer men. Sell everything white, only sell better stuff if you’re sure you won’t need it, and try to save up for purple stuff in the trade menu. Manufacturing costs a lot more.

Just bought this game and it's really good
One question: can you only guard, attack, or move or do you unlock new actions to use?

When your soldier level up you can unlock different special abilities to use depending on what class your soldier is.

    Cool
It's a really good game. Really fun thinking about formation and covering corners
Hope we get a Hunters 3 to compete with XCom this summer!
