Today we put Hungribles on a strict diet as we try to squeeze the game down below 20MB in size. It's looking good so far.

Based on the feedback from play testing we've been tinkering with the menus and have added some additional tutorial screens as new elements are introduced.

Everything is coming together nicely and it's finally feeling like the game will be ready for App Store review soon.

Before we send out preview copies we asked Jarnis, our in-house-never-satisfied-grumpy-game-reviewer to take a look at Hungribles. He usually finds fault with everything so we were relieved when after a complete play through he said that in his opinion Hungribles is "free of epic fails". It's not quite the review quote we're looking for, but it's a start!

Here are two new full size screenshots. These are the first we've released from the iPhone version of Hungribles.

Each level features a bunch of hungry Hungribles and stubborn gobstacles. The puzzle is to figure out how to feed them all and get the most points along the way. Feeding a Hungrible can change it's behaviour so discovering the best order in which to feed them is part of the challenge too. You get bonus points for tricks shots, bouncing the orb off walls, curving it round Hungribles and for hitting the pot of gold.

By the way, Friday is the juhannus midsummer holiday here in Finland and all Finns will be going to their summer houses by the lakes and sea to relax and enjoy the long summer days with food, drink and sauna. So there won't be any new news from the team until next week.

Hungribles diet is complete - the file size is now well under 20MB which means iPhone owners will be able to download the game over 3G when it is released, without having to find a Wi-Fi connection or sync through iTunes.

Hungribles has now been submitted for App Store review. Fingers crossed for a speedy (and problem free) approval.

While we wait for the App Store review results, we'd like to share the first details of Hungribles' challenge mode with you together with some brand new screenshots.

In all modes, the aim of the game is to feed the Hungribles with tasty orbs to make them happy. In story mode you can take your time and the only pressure comes from having a limited number of orbs available.

In challenge mode things are more hectic as you play against the clock. You have an unlimited number of orbs but, once you fire your first orb, your mushroom slingshot fires continuously like some sort of fungal Gatling gun.

Challenge levels generally feature more individual Hungribles and often have moving walls and other dynamic elements. You get bonus points for trick shots, bouncing the orbs off walls and curving them around Hungribles, but the real points come from finishing quickly with lots of time left on the clock.

Here's our first "hands on" video courtesy of Slide to Play. This footage of the first few levels is from the BETA version of Hungribles that we were showing to press at E3.

As you can see, the early levels are fairly straightforward to help you get used to the gravity-like "appetite" effect and how it changes the path of the orb. Feeding the Hungribles in these levels is pretty easy; the skill comes in figuring out how to get a "three star" score.

Hungribles has (finally) passed its App Store review. Yeah!

We'll be giving away promo codes this week on the Hungribles Facebook page. So if you like the idea of not only getting the game for free, but also getting to play it before its general release, then head on over there, "like" the page and then keep a keen eye out for updates.
