I just got it today and I was wondering if any of you guys have a tutorial of how to make characters (like penguins or something like that) so I can create them and have fun while doing it. Also if you have tutorials of how to use Photoshop CS4 Extended please post them. Thanks in advance. :)

...brush tool? Photoshop is more about editing existing images really.

    Okay.. you "got" Photoshop.
PS is mainly for editing/enhancing pixelgraphics (like photos), but you can draw with it (especially since they got the Rotate View feature from Painter) Look at this:
    http://www.vimeo.com/channels/55565
There are some interesting concept/speeddrawing clips...

Now you have to "get" a wacom and some years of training (not sure if you'll find a torrent of that)...

That's cuz Photoshop is an image manipulation and processing program whereas Illustrator is a vector based drawing program.

But that being said, you CAN draw with Photoshop its just a little harder. As someone mentioned get a wacom first and foremost then just fiddle with the brushes until you find one you are comfortable with. Here is an article:

    http://www.teamphotoshop.com/articles-The-Techniques-Creating-a-Vector-image-in-Photoshop-5,8,101a.html

As you can see its generally about creating layers and tracing from an existing photo since its pretty hard to freehand on photoshop. If that isn't what you are looking for browse around that site since it has a bunch of how-tos and instructions. There are a TON more though! Just keep googling until you find what you need! Good luck!

Yeah, Adobe Illustrator would have been much more convenient to use for drawing things, etc. Not sure how to use Photoshop much as I've only used it for editing photos, but I'm pretty sure there are tons of tutorials online.

Maybe searching around their website will help: www.adobe.com

I doubt he paid for it, only a few hours earlier he was asking someone how they made an image and they told him they'd used Photoshop.

Oh, and if you're not using a tablet you're probably gonna end up with something like this:

    http://www.invano.com/tutorials/photoshop/penguin.php

...yeah it's hideous, but following tutorials will teach you much useful stuff.

    Do this one too:

    http://www.photochopz.com/forum/member-photoshop-tutorials/26107-make-mad-penguin.html

It's all basic stuff but if you're new to Photoshop that's obviously where you wanna start.

    ah.

my suggestion to the OP is to use MSPaint for a while until they figure out how to draw said penguins first.

Photoshop is like using a crane to lift a feather. Just use your fingers.

Does anyone know how to make 3D objects in Extended? I recently took the plunge (got it on eBay for $300 yay :) ) and wanted to know if there is a way or if I can only use existing 3-D objects.

If you can only use existing ones I have Flash coming in the mail so if anyone could post any tuts on that as well I would be very happy. Thanks. :)

Not sure if it's the same, but it's worth a shot. Go to Effects on the top menu bar, then 3D. There should be some 3D options including Extrude and other options I can't remember at the moment.

This is for Adobe Illustrator CS2 though, not sure how it works in Photoshop.

I was also looking for that but I think that you can only use the existing ones (like the donut and the soda can)
