I have an Ipod touch 2g, and the screen has some dead pixels and some dark spots that look like shadows on it. I made an appt. to see someone at the apple store tomorrow and they said they will look at it and possibly replace it because it's still under warranty. My question is does anyone know how or if I will be able to use the current backup of my ipod and restore that backup to a new ipod touch?

Just sync your iPod before heading to the apple store and when you get your new iPod just plug it into the same computer and you can set it up as a new iPod or restore from backup. I'm 95% positive.

You can just sync your iPod, right click on it when it shows up in the left navigation pane in iTunes and click 'Back Up'.

If/When you get a new iPod, just sync it with the same computer, wait until it shows up in the left nav. pane in iTunes, make sure you're on the 'Summary' tab of said iPod and click the 'Restore' button. Lastly, search for the time-stamped restore file and restore to that time/date.

    I hope this helps,
