The title pretty much says it all. Here are the questions I would like someone to answer. 1. What exactly are 8-bit images and sound effects? 2. What programs can I use to create 8-bit images? 3. What programs can I use to create 8-bit songs, sound effects, etc.? 4. Are 8-bit images based on the pixel size, color, or WHAT? 5. What programs can I use to create 8-bit animations? Thanks guys! EDIT: I found some useful information for finding pixel art information, if anyone is interested. Great forum, too. http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?PHPSESSID=39b36d6229d2bc9cbae705ae3a4a76fc&topic=4265.0
1. 8-bit images are, from what I understand, images that are 8x8 pixels and then enlarged. Not sure about the sound effects though. 2. MS Paint. Just change the canvas size and then magnify the canvas to be really large. 3. Not sue. 4. See answer 1. 5. Gimp, Photoshop, anything that can create GIF animations...
8-bit sounds have restrictions on their wavelength, which is why when they change notes, they make instant jumps in pitch, instead of modern sound technology, where you can go multiple steps in between two notes. For example, with 8-bit, it'd be A -B With a higher number, it'd be, A - - - - - - - - - - - B ("-" is every step in between).
Never mind, I just Googled (strange verb) 8-bit image and found I was completely wrong. An 8-bit image is an image that uses up to 256 certain colors. Sowwy.
Okay, could you possibly get me a link to a tutorial on setting up an 8-bit image on paint, or any other free program? Thanks.
www.pixeljoint.com www.wayofthepixel.com is all you need, communities to help you in your new pixel endevour. and while you "can" use 256 colors on an image, in game development you have to select a palette, usually 16 - 32 colors and re-use those colors on every single image in the game.
Also, if you want a little pixel drawing on the go, I just picked up Edge Touch, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. There's also Tiny Pixels which is supposed to be good, too, but I ultimately went with Edge Touch. They're each $2, and you probably can't go wrong getting either one. Or for free, you can check out Pixel if you just want something simple to play around with.
Hello everybody, I can help you about 8-bit music, sound and effects. I hope ! I have a website for that, recognized by many forums and websites ! I try to put MP3 demo for each softwares or samplesCD. Most is FREE ! 1) To compose 8-bit music, you can use VST 8-bit plugins with an audio plugin host : http://woolyss.com/chipmusic-plugins.php ... or tracker, especially chiptrackers: http://woolyss.com/chipmusic-chiptrackers.php ... or 8-bit samples : http://woolyss.com/chipmusic-samples.php ... or buy a GameBoy console (on Ebay for example) or an Atari, Commodore 64... ... or ask to a composer of 8bc (8 bit collective) forum. There, you will find many helps and good composers (for free music too !) There are other solutions but expensive (modern hardwares like SIDstation or pure old synthesizer) 2) To compose 8-bit effects you can use standalone sound generators : http://woolyss.com/chipmusic-generators.php You have choice ! Good luck !
Hello, @catfan555 Search on Google before to post basic question ! Thank you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8-bit There is 8-bit sound, 8-bit image... because computer or console use 8-bit chip ! @Twiddle Read Tutorial and go to the Famitracker forum ! http://famitracker.shoodot.net/ Famitracker is an emulation of Nintendo Famicom / NES soundchip. Basically, it's not dedicated to use samples, but you can. Use classic music editors to work with samples (OpenMPT, MilkyTracker, FL Studio, Renoise...) Good luck !
1. What exactly are 8-bit images ? 4. Are 8-bit images based on the pixel size, color, or WHAT? 8 bit image is, for the nintendo famicom 8 bits, 4 colors included the transparance color, so you have only 3 colors for a sprite. The palette color is also low, 52 colors for the famicoms in a max resolution of 256x240 Here is a good example of evolution Line 1,2,3 and 4 is 8 bits Line 5 is - 16 bits Line 6 is in 3D (in this case Nintendo 64) Line 7 in 3D ( Gamecube ) Line 8 in 3D - Wii 8 Bits is based in term of the device performance. Snes is 16 bits but what really mater here is what's the graphic limitation. 8 Bits can also be 2 colors. So, if you decide to do a 8 bit game style. choose your 8 bit device and check the graphic limitation. 2. What programs can I use to create 8-bit images? 5. What programs can I use to create 8-bit animations? Promotion or Deluxe Paint Animation (if you found it and also if you can use it, because is a really old soft ! ) Promotion can be found here: http://www.cosmigo.com/promotion/index.php You can also use photoshop if you want, they are good tutorials on the web, search "photostop pixel art"
