I've been trying to work out how to reward users who beat my game... It's a puzzle game with around 100 levels, so there is a finite end once they've beaten all of them. I was thinking of making a "hall of fame" page on the official site for the game, with all the names of people who have beaten it. Any other ideas? What do you guys do?
I just show a 'Congratulations, you beat the game' screen. (for now ) Your 'hall of fame' idea sounds good to me, maybe an achievement too?
Perhaps alter the design / look of the user interface and menus? If you divulge a little more detail of your game, then an appropriate and unqiue (to that game) reward can be drawn up. For example, what art assets are used for the puzzle mechanics? If there are blocks, perhaps you could alter them to be more 'fancy' looking? EDIT: Upon completion, a fireworks display with accompanying "Congratulations. A Winner Is You!" text? Fireworks is hardly the most original but it is always satisfying to see. Letting someone know they are the best with whistles, bangs and sparkles never gets old. Then again, it all depends on how much work you are prepared to do / have time for.
Well in Bloons when you beat it you get a cool "Congratualtions" screen followed by the ability to play a very cool mini-game whenever you please, all in all it's a good system.
Personally, bonus level(s) or minigame, or you could put in an achievement or different art work like other have suggested. Said bonus level could contain rules wildly different from regular levels. Edit: WellSpentYouth, exactly, just small additions to keep them playing after they've beaten the main focus of the game. Plus if it seems like it's starting to get dull, updates are always an option
That is what I was thinking, make the rules different and maybe less restrictive. Play some of the game and if there is something that you want to do (like in racing game, maybe you want to free roam), add that as a bonus feature
Maybe do something similar to Super Monkey Ball, where if the player can get 100% on the first 9 worlds, they unlock an ultra difficult 10th world.
Great ideas everyone! I think I might do some kind of minigame or fireworks-type display, that's a very cool idea. I also like the idea of making the game look different, so I might put a small golden border around the whole screen at all times once you've beaten it, or something like that. Hmmm...
hah, I wish I could add 100 extra levels... but by the time the user beats the game, they'll be so good at it that I'll have to make the levels really really hard just to give them a challenge... but that means I have to be able to solve them myself! Right now some of the hardest levels have already taken me 2-3 hours to solve.
Hah yeah I think a lot of people will really enjoy it once it comes out. It's kinda like Prism(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgrdAAKSqFk) mixed with pipe dream... or something like that. I dunno, but it's fun to play. Anyway, it's probably gonna be called [redacted], so keep an eye out for it... It's almost done and I'm in the polishing stages... I'm hoping to release it in a month or so.
