Funn fact: we're having a cool and relaxed discussion or talk here. I am so glad that chatting went back to normal Not a single big drama in here.
I managed to get my wife into Quake 3 and Counterstrike, she ended up liking both more than I did, then she went onto Sim City and the Sims, from there it just got worse as she transitioned onto FarmVille and other Zynga games - now, thanks to Zynga making gaming an unenjoyable job, she has finally had enough and won't touch anything. Although she will play CoD when her boy comes over occasionally. But generally doesn't trust how (or herself with how) games are set up these days.
Sounds like you're back to square one. I would say try to find something accessible yet awesome, but she started with Quake and CounterStrike... make her play Battlefield?
Have tried showing her She can be quite strong minded once she's come to a decision, but we'll see how it goes.
I noticed in my gaming "career", that my wife and some of my female friends aren't as competitive as men when it comes to games... they like games you can play together, or are creative, or mind challenging. Maybe try those games first before you put Counterstrike in front of their faces. But for the honor of women: that's no general rule, 'cause there are also a lot of girls who seriously kicked my butt in Unreal tournaments in the past.
I know anecdotes are not data, but I find that I totally don't like games with realistic violence anymore. It doesn't mean I'm not competitive though. Maybe racing games would work? I find those super fun to do multiplayer. Also, in general, I don't find it really fun to play against someone who has had 10+ years to refine their skills in a certain genre. With the limited time I now have for gaming I know that I simply have no chance against them, and then I either lose all the time or they let me win. Both are not really fun.
Turn based strategy can be great in this regard. Asynchronous multiplayer has been a great find. Just play when you have the chance. My wife is an Great Big War Game fan. A game for us goes for ages as our lives are so flat out but when we have a chance we can truly plan the next move
Thanks a lot Zynga. Douche Bags. Did you see the Reddit AMA from the Zynga employee that was sacked? Very interesting read http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1fpbv1/i_was_one_of_the_520_people_laid_off_by_zynga/
It's things like this which make Battlefield better than Call of Duty. Edit: This is the best part of the AMA:
Sorry not trying to be rude but what are you getting at here? Cool subject that has a few nods to Descartes' dualism arguments but Im not too sure where this is coming from
HAHA yeah I loved that. Also loved this answer to if Zynga employees played their own games "Oh yeah. I mean a lot of the people there genuinely loved the games. I was never really a fan either, but there were some that I played. I think that a lot of freemium games suffer from the obvious fact that they're asking for money. But that's what you get from a free game, right? I mean Zynga wasn't making games to be charitable. It's a business. So the games they provided were free, and most people never paid. And for them that was fine. I think a lot of gamers look at that with disdain because they hate the idea of paying to win. It takes the sport out of the game and makes it unfair. If I could pay $1 and win a deathmatch round of Halo I'd be a cheating asshole. But that's because everyone playing Halo already dropped $60 to play that game and it's also just not fair. The playing field for freemium games is different. Farmville isn't a deathmatch. It's a solo grind that requires players to spend time and spam their friends to advance. If you don't want to do either, you can spend a dollar. The general attitude with freemium is that if you're going to pay us, we'll let you skip through the game as fast as you want. Because, who cares? We get the money, and you get to save some time. We both win. I'm not saying it's for everyone. But there's clearly a market for this kinda gaming."
For sure its not a general rule! My wife gets super competitive when playing with me, she usually plays farm games( like hay day ) on her ipad or maxis games on the pc but she loves playing fighting games with me. The game we're playing a lot now is Injustice on the ps3 and she gets riled up trying to beat me and it gets very, very competitive. We also love to play Snes and Gamecube/wii together, on the snes we always have a blast playing Ken Griffey Winning Run and the OG street fighter II and on the wii games like maro striker, mario party, etc. The thing is that because the games we play together are not the same I play solo the odds are not always stacked in my favor so its not a situation where I always win and its a nice way to let wifey enjoy my vice. Nice thread by the way, good talk in here.
I can't figure out where you're coming from, either. And what does mental health or physical health have to do with the subject of this thread? Absolutely nothing! Who cares about any of that here? All I can get from your off-the wall rant is either you're suffering from some sort of mental disorder yourself or you're posting in the wrong website!
Same here ! I just thought we were just talking about peoples age, not some deep discussion on mental health! Think I'll go back to the games section !
Maybe too far of a stretch - age ---> Alzheimer's -----> Mental Health And I'll thank you bigrand1 not to be offensive, if you can manage that. The passages have been deleted. Sorry to all to have been off topic.
