I couldnt agree more, im feeling that right now im more or less collecting for my twilight years when im expecting to have tons of free time again. And also agree with the tv, I dont watch it unless im watching it with her and and it usually is some crappy movie/soap so besides gaming only football takes my time and thats only when the season is on so she knows that if I have some down time after caring for her and for my business its gonna be spent playing games.
Sambo, it's great you're here and part of the discussion. Don't worry it's impossible to miss out . Much of the history of games is available. You do Realise this is the Internet and there are lurkers viewing this thread. I'm sure you're safe with us here but you might want to think twice before posting your age. Just some friendly advice
Like most of you guys around my age (like I said, I'm 46) I look back with great fondness on the earliest days of gaming. I got hooked when a friend of mine got a Pong machine back in the late 70s. I had a 2600, an NES, SNES, and its just carried on since then. I can remember spending hours trying to beat River Raid and Kaboom with my brother or playing through the Dragon Warriors games on the NES. I was amazed by a really early version of Microsoft Flightsim on my Grandpa's AppleIIe. I can remember being absolutely BLOWN AWAY the first time I saw DOOM running on the uber-powerful PC my bro had just bought (would have been something like a 386SX with 4 megs of ram or so, lol) and also when I first saw Mechwarrior II running at high res. I can remember buying my first stick of ram for my own new PC around 1995 - 8 megs (that's right, megs...not gigs) for a tidy $239! Its crazy how things have changed since then. My iphone is WAY more powerful than that desktop box was. I totally agree with you Psj3809, its that history with videogaming that causes me to have a good laugh at some of the complaints the younger folk have regarding ios game prices.
I was too young ever to spend money on cassettes, but my parents did. I remember the horrors of waiting 20 minutes for a game to load and then have it crash instantly.
I'm 24. I played PS3 all throughout college, but now with a busy life schedule it is much easier to game on the go with my iPhone.
I'm 15, I feel as though I'm a lot more mature then most 15 year olds though. I bet theres at least a few of you who thought I was a bit older
I thought you were a bit older myself, Fireball. I'm not going to give my exact age, but I'll put it this way: I'm legally able to enter any movie I want to at the theater, but last time I did into an R movie I got carded. I remember being awed at Lego Star Wars on a friend's Gameboy Adavnce SP (in color!) when I was like 5. I think it was 2.5D. How long have I been gaming? I think the first videogame I ever played was Star Wars: Tie Fighter and the associated games like Alliance and X-wing on my parent's windows 98 (my dad even got me a joystick, I was a real pilot), along with point and click adventure games like Pajama Sam (anyone remember that?) and Freddy Fish. I later graduated to AoE and its assorted expansions when I was 10 or so, and have loved RTS titles ever since. And all this before CoD 4 came out and was such a hit in 2007.
I'm 15 COME AT ME INTERNET LURKERS!!!! Lego Star Wars came out in 2005. If you were 5 then, that would make you 13 now, and you would not be legally allowed to go to R movies And you claim to have been 10 before COD4 released in 2007 as well, and it is physically impossible to age that much in 2 years? Are you an alien?
Hmm, maybe it was another similar game with platforming, I don't know. It was a while ago nice catch though. I'm going to try and figure out what it was. Edit: might've been http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_World_2:_Yoshi%27s_Island#Yoshi.27s_Island:_Super_Mario_Advance_3 or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_%26_Luigi:_Superstar_Saga I know I played a Lego game on there though at one point. Edit 2: Well you really made me look pretty stupid, next time I'll be more careful when i estimate ages. I was between 10 and 11 when I first played an AoE game, and 7 when I got the X-wing games. The Gamboy one was a complete guess, I didn't realize someone would actually look at the release dates
Wow,a lot of you guys got to see the evolution of gaming happen! I'm only 15 years old (16 in October) and I love gaming,I wanna be playing games my entire life though-the first game I played was red faction at age 3 (that might not be accurate, but I was told that was the first 'violent' game I ever played, and I don't remember so ill say 3 for now). I don't remember it but I was playing GTA III on PS2 when I was 5,and Halo when that came out! I played a lot of N64 games too (Super Mario 64 is one of my all time favorite games) and I play pretty much whatever looks interesting, the graphics don't make the game after all,but it's nice to have them. Age to me doesn't really matter, when I used to play Runescape on PC I met a 55 year old man on there who had met his wife on the game, this just goes to show that gaming isn't age restricted at all. Well, maybe I didn't really understand GTA when I was little,I do now though xD gaming is for everyone! Young and old you guys show that!
There were heaps of things I was into at 15 that I never thought I'd grow out of. However, with time certain passions, friends and hobbies will fall away. It is surprising looking back at the things that you still consider part of your fabric. Gaming is one of those things that sticks
Even when he backtracked he still only placed himself at 15 or 16, so we might as well just round down and say you're correct.
Hm? The original AoE was released in 97, the X-Wing trilogy was released in late 99. Just because I got a few dates and ages mixed up doesn't necessitate a mass attack on what I said. I posted in here for fun, not to prove anything.
