I would say Gameloft also need to bare in mind that A4 was pants! When I think of Asphalt, I think really dodgy controls and substandard graphics. RR and NFSU are hard to beat. It will really have to impress to get me to be interested in buying yet another racer...

True. I remember the first hours with A4. It was like pulling teeth after having to enjoy the game in my Nokia. :D

But it's hardly fair to compare last year's game to RR and Undercover. Those are tough benchmarks that even Shift has to go through. And by the looks of the new screenshots of the A5, it seems to be just a polished A4. So for now, the redemption would be great campaign/maps as well as something new to be placed on the table. Let's hope this isn't just an A4 ver2. :D

I suppose I was comparing RR and NFSU to A5 rather than A4 and saying that it has to really dig itself out of the A4 trench that it has inherited. This could go two ways. Either they surpass RR and NFSU, in which case they are sitting on a gold mine. Or, as you say, it becomes just another A4 version 2, in which case they are sitting on land mine!

Lol... but they will also milk the Asphalt name from the average Joes who hasnt even heard of Real Racing yet and are waiting for a Harry Potter game. :D

I don't understand why some of you didn't enjoy Asphalt 4. When the game first came out, it was one of the best racers in the App Store with great controls and a very extensive career mode. Of course, the update did ruin the accelerometer controls, but the touch controls were the controls that worked the best anyways.

Asphalt 5 looks a lot better than Asphalt 4 and much more. With downloadable content and extensive number of cars/tracks, I think it can beat NFSU. Of course, I'm still wondering if it'll beat RR though.

I suppose, if I analysed why I didn't enjoy A4, it would largely be due to my expectations. When I first started buying app store games, Super Monkey Ball was one of first, of course. Although the controls were frustrating to say the least, the production values were right up there. So when the hype for A4 came along, I assumed it would be comparable (in my mind I had the quality of NFSU). But, for me, I was disappointed and the game left me flat. The graphics were rough (tbh, I find most Gameloft games pretty rough graphically, even now). Another thing that I really didn't enjoy was when you drifted the car it would produce an ear shattering screech! Horrible! Way over the top. So, I put it away until the up-date which of course meant the controls were stuffed, albeit the drift noise was corrected...

I am very curious what A5 will bring to the table.
