Even as soon as 8 months ago or so, I heard iPad 4 users bummed because a decent number digital board games did NOT support iPad4. Yes, one can easily look up that it got released back in Nov. 2012, so it's already a 4 to 4.5 year old device (at that time), which is long in "Apple tech terms". However, this sort of thing STILL crept up on me. As I have an Ipad Air (1), aka "Ipad5", my device is doing better, but approaching 4 years old. TBH, I'm not as bummed out. It's still on ios8 for greater compatibility. If need be, I could just update it to ios11. I risk taking a performance hit, but that's just how it is. 2 other things I'd need to deal with are previous games that won't work on ios11, (although I wouldn't mind even if half of them lost compatibility), and I'd also need to deal with the "64-bit appocalypse". I just want to make sure I don't risk any games in progress not making the transition over. Main ones being Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, and Gasketball. I may have to login in clear out space on my iCloud so I can make room for new saves and data to be backed up.
I think this is a double question. One is, how much longer will the IPAD Air 1 serve for future games to be released (not IOS 11 related)? This has to do with the "horsepower" of te IPAD air 1. A simple (though not peaceful example) Is Batman. That game was unplayable on Ipad Air 1 (though it was also largely badly playable on newer models, badly, but playable). Another question is what will the IOS11 mean for Ipad Air 1, in terms of performance. This second question, for me is currently of no issue, since I do not intend to update to IOS 11 for some time (which brings me to another issue of future games that will require IOS11 *sigh* which I hope won't be many for some time). The first question also truly concerns me. And has concerned me for the past year (I bought my Ipad Air 1 second hand 2 years ago for 200 euros). I don't know if the time when games will stop working on Ipad air 1 is nigh or not, but hopefully it will still take some time before we start seeing new releases of games that cannot run on Ipad Air 1. Let us just say that Jade Empire, Ember, Infinity Blade 3, Planescape Torment, Eisenhorn and Titan Quest (to name but a few of the games I play on mine that are robust and play fine)play fine on Ipad Air 1. These are the only reasons why I am not very afraid, because the Ipad Air 1 has proven to be on par with newer models when running those games. But still, it gives us something to think about.
i am still rocking my ipad mini 1. there are an increasing number of games that i can't play on it but you'd be shocked by the amount i CAN play and do on it still. especially since i can still play those olden apps that are blocked on newer devices and software. so i think you're good lmfao.
